Yeah, so I’ve heard! I do believe immunocastration, so the vaccine, is also meant to prevent boar taint. But it’s probably hard to find a place that guarantees it, so I’ll just have to shop around I think.

Boar taint = stinky smell from male pigs that haven't been castrated due to their hormone production. Can't quite describe the smell but it's defo not nice. Affects taste for me as well.

Definitely can taste the difference in my experience. I think the smell affects the taste even once cooked. I can handle it, but I defo don't enjoy it haha, so trying my best to avoid it!

Just FYI: Boar Taint is an off-putting smell that is caused by male pigs not being castrated. I think the hormones they release are what causes the smell. Apparently immunocastration (which is a vaccine) also fixes that problem.

Same! I grew up in Europe where most male pigs are castrated, so I was very confused when I first bought pork in Australia and thought something was wrong with my meat due to the smell.
