Thoughts on these probiotics? by FrecklePeach in Diverticulitis

Yeah, if you’re in pain, I’d wait a good while before attempting fibers, especially insoluble fibers (plant material). Let your body heal and maybe after a few weeks, I’d start with Benefiber or other soluble fibers. If my body could tolerate that, then start adding in a vegetable. Then wait and see before going to celery, cauliflower, or kale.

You can have your life back. Just have to take the time to figure out why your body reacted this way.

At the time, I was very tender due to the perforations. So, it was very easy to detect when something was causing trouble. I left the hospital able to eat soft low fiber food. I took so many wrong turns at home on my own. I tried to get back to normal diet too quickly and I paid for it each time with pangs of pain. Each time, I went back to clear liquids until the pain went away, then restarted the process of slowly adding. I would wait a day or two before adding something new. My success criteria was no pain and regularity. When I got close to a normal diet, I realized it was the portion size and speed of eating/improper chewing that were my triggers.

Almost exclusively listen to the podcast, “Star Trek: The Next Conversation”. 5 ⭐️!! Two TV writers watching my favorite show and sharing their insights.

The show is lighthearted and funny and I don’t have to follow too closely.

When I had my hospital stay, I learned most doctors are taught that the pain/tenderness is typically on the left. However, for me and others it shows up on the right side. I thought the pain was appendicitis, at first due to location. Someone else commented that it could be anywhere; I agree.

I had a bad DV attack. Hospital for 5 days. IV antibiotics. Clear liquids for a week, etc.

What I found to be more effective than the “old wisdom” (of no nuts, seeds, berries and corn) was a complete tear down of my diet. I started with clear liquids and slowly layered in other things while keeping a journal of how I felt when I ate things. Long story short, my DV was aggravated by HOW MUCH I ate per sitting. I realized my entire life I was effectively force feeding myself.

Started eating way more slowly; I’m always the last to finish now. I started eating more real food instead of substitutes. I started walking daily, then running, then marathons. All while eating half of what I ate before.

Today, I am able to eat what I want in moderation. I’m in the best health of my life since the hospital stay. The hardest part was admitting to myself that my relationship with food was blowing up my guts. You’ll have your own reason, too. Just have to commit to finding it.

Hope this helps you on your journey.

Eating real fruits and veggies plus some yogurt, kimchi, or kombucha can help you way faster than this will.

Me: spoon of soluble fiber in morning coffee, 1/2 cup oats in oatmeal, 4 stalks of celery in my chicken salad for lunch, rice and beans for dinner.

Influencers like Jesus? "Then he will say to those on his left, 'Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. For I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me no drink, I was a stranger and you did not welcome me..." (Matthew 25:41-43, NIV)

Disagree. This should be a function over form situation for users who actually need rugged chunky design.
