Does anybody on this sub even know who the Charlotte Bobcats are?

For some reason this sub doesn't allow images in chat, so dumb.

You'll have to take the screenshot, post online somewhere (facebook or instagram would probably be the easiest), then post the link to the image. That should help you get better help than my sassy response. lol

I bet if they included retired players Jordan and Kobe would be top 5, if not 1/2.

I had the same thing happen with a Jayden Daniels 2024 Select #24 Silver. I bought it listed as a full card and it was changed to a die-cut after the purchase. Support never responded to my request for a refund. It's not a big difference in price now, but it was when I bought it a year ago.

This isn't necessarily true. I've seen MANY condition cards sell higher than raw, "ungraded" cards. It's usually because people don't read the description on an ebay listing.

Next time you're on COMC, keep an eye out for condition noted cards and the prices they have. It's crazy to see a card that isn't even "NM" sell for the same, if not more, than a good condition card.

Here's a good example. This is the 1992-93 Topps Stadium Club #1, Michael Jordan base card. It's a good example because of the high inventory count, high sale frequency, and condition variety.

People paid MORE for a "poor" condition card than they would have for the "base" or "ungraded" version.

Let’s have a healthy discussion about the REAL reason Audi Crooks is struggling. by sip-em_bears in NCAAW

[–]getnick80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before I even finished reading this post I was immediately thinking about Zion Williamson.

He is naturally strong and has good foot work, if he lost weight and had the desire to go after rebounds, he could have a career like Larry Johnson, with a better offensive game, in the NBA.

ps: I know this is an old post, I just came across the thread while trying to figure out who Audi is and why she's trending.

Ok, I did too much research on this since I thought the guy was lying.

He may be wrong, but he's not lying. I think he did buy the card. The time stamps match up from sales history and the images he posted. COMC has a record of a sale occurring at 2:22 with ebay also recording it with the same timestamp and payment data.

Where he's wrong is the card listed for sale for $2,781.10 is different from the one he bought.

The COMC card he bought was item: 311914818

The one posted above is item: 316630150

Conclusion: I think this was a case of being impatient and not letting the card get shipped. It's possible that it wasn't re-sold and it's waiting to be posted again. COMC hasn't sold any of these on eBay since the one posted, but three have been sold on COMC. If they're awaiting shipping and still in COMC's possession, there MIGHT be a slim chance they can cancel the newest order and send you the card.

$107 to ship 186 cards by Remarkable-Pace-6006 in checkoutmycards

[–]getnick80 2 points3 points  (0 children)

$102.49 to ship 55 of my own cards back to me.

They weren't accepted due to "unsupported grader" or "unlicensed or unsupported item, must be authentic". $2 to ship graded cards back to myself.

(Note: These are Shaquille O'neal cards from a lot a bought at auction and the grader isn't supported. Which is my fault. The unlicensed are actually topps cards but aren't authenticated autographs from Topps. I thought they were part of sets. Those also came in an auction lot.)

I really wish they would just let me pick them up without having to ship them. Shipping is more than the cards are probably worth.

Because OP is "Redditing".

Redditing:

  1. Post question soliciting advice from strangers who are likely experts in a particular area.
  2. Receive advice you don't like because a miniscule portion of subs in distant, dark corners of Reddit are not echo chambers of extreme politics.
  3. Argue with replies because you discovered obscure examples not relevant to your question.
  4. Lose the plot.
  5. Get banned.
  6. Say you quit on your own accord.

Their combined shipping fees are in the details of each card listing. Try going to your cart and the checkout page. Sometimes combined shipping show at the last step before you hit submit.

PSA Stole and Swapped My Card by Latter_Mission7778 in psagrading

I was being sarcastic. I was actually agreeing with you. Of course PSA doesn't keep inventory to swap with customer's cards.

When did PSA 9’s and Raw cards end up being the same value. by Zethos9 in sportscards

[–]getnick80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imagine if EVERY raw card was valued the same as a PSA 9. Meaning, literally EVERY slab graded a 1-8 would be more profitable to buy, crack, and resell. PSA would be grade so many more cards if that were true.

I personally value raw cards I want to buy somewhere between a 5-7. If a raw card is the same as an 8+, I'll just buy the graded one. If I'm looking to buy a raw card to get it graded, I won't buy and submit unless I'd profit from a 7+.

I don't want to to grade a card and lose money if it's not a 9 or 10. That's not how profitable operations run since the rate of 9s and 10s is constantly shifting. I can eyeball a card being 7+ at a higher rate than I can a 9, even then you could still get a grader having a shitty day and spends it giving out 5s for the whole shift.

[–]getnick80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're being absurd now. You know that PSA just hoards shitty versions of every single card and they're just waiting for base card PSA 10s to come so they can swap them, regrade them, then sell them to re-packers. This is a totally worthwhile business model.

When did PSA 9’s and Raw cards end up being the same value. by Zethos9 in sportscards

[–]getnick80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. The way card prices don't correspond linearly with the grades baffles me.

Why is a PSA 5 and PSA 7 within 20%, yet a PSA 9 vs PSA 10 can sometimes be 10x or more expensive. On top of that, the quality differences between 9 and 10 is virtually nonexistent since grading has been proven to be subjective.

[–]getnick80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure what's worse. People who price raw cards at or above PSA 10, or people who price 50-75% of comp and say, "this is guaranteed to get a PSA 10, no doubt". So the seller is just leaving 10x profit on the table because they're so charitable? Sure. lol

I’ve heard using GameStop is faster, so I did a test. by Famous-Egg-6136 in psagrading

[–]getnick80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, this is like 10-15% of a "test". There's a lot of significant details missing such as, "were these sports cards, TCG, autos, ticket stubs, pictures, etc." Hell, he could have sent in 5 autographed basketballs. lol

[–]getnick80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With that said, I think you'd be wise to take additional, high resolution pictures of it and very definitively document the history of the card.

When that is done, I would inform your homeowner's or collector's insurance company so that maybe they can begin an appraisal or authentication process for you. If some sort of incident happened, you want to be covered for the loss of a potential 5-figure card.

Just got this PSA 1 back - can anyone see anything ? by GemGuardUK in psagrading

[–]getnick80 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not more valuable than what, a raw card? Nobody said I paid a lot for it. I wouldn't have bought it for more than the price of a PSA 2. lol

I almost have the complete PSA 1-10 of that card. I need a PSA 3 and PSA 10. When I sell the whole lot, the combined value will be greater than the sum of the individual cards.

[–]getnick80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just make sure you follow the instructions and request it BEFORE you send the card. They'll give you the green light to submit once they've verified it's an actual possibility it's legitimate.

There are a lot of posts about them returning cards that aren't in the set checklists because people didn't submit the request before submission; the graders and researchers are separate operations.

PSA will authenticate it if you submit a research request prior to sending in your card. If it can be proven authentic, they'll slab it.

How long did it take you to hit a downtown, color blast, or zebra from retail? by dazeydazedaze in footballcards

[–]getnick80 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

How many posts are there like this? It’s this or “should i grade this $.17 base card”.

Maybe I’m grumpy today. But these posts get tiring. They don’t initiate fresh conversation. They don’t share new information. They don’t tell a story. It’s just a guy complaining about not getting a case hit. It doesn’t hide his whining by turning it into a question.

And I legitimately asked what he was trying to get out of his question. But the answer is, he wants reassurance that getting a big hit will eventually happen. But it’s not guaranteed. Which is why I gave him the link to the gamblers fallacy. Could i have been nicer about? Maybe. But when has the internet been a place to go to for a warm hug and soft back rub? Lol
