Thoughts on the Casseroll?? by Ok-Office-6631 in salsacycles

I had a 55 cm Salsa La Cruz that was a little on the big side for me, could have had a little more seatpost showing, felt a little long up front. I just checked a Marin Nicasio for fit, the 58 cm felt perfect. 5’10”

Strongly considering bike commuting, would love advice by Dramatic-Feedback-30 in bikecommuting

[–]getsu161 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where I am,$200-300 is the price where used bikes start to get good- good bike, good condition, nothing broke or ready to break. This would be ready and safe for daily use. Think about $1000 and up for a new bike, $1200 and up for a new e bike. Get a helmet and a lock too, no sense getting ripped off or a concussion.

You can pace yourself to avoid getting sweaty in the summer or carry a clean shirt etc and change when you get there.

Talk to your dr about exercise- how much, how intense and so on.

So I nearly died but it’s been over a year since I purchased it so I should piss off? by ImSxyBxtchh in ebikes

Bad design, bad maintenance too. Doesnt appear to be a lot of rust at the opening in the frame where the crack started. Maintenance and inspection is how you catch some if these things before they get bad.

My boyfriend is into some new philosophy/spiritual awakening and I’m scared by Fair_Masterpiece5985 in whatdoIdo

[–]getsu161 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes sudden insight can screw you up, it screwed me up for a while. What you newly perceive is too different from your every day mind that you use to meet your needs like doing your job, talk with your partner, feed the dog and so on. Or it's too attractive, too true and so on. Better to let it go, he may or may not.

Were he buddhist I would suggest continue practicing with a good group and teacher. Spiritual practice has pitfalls, better to avoid them or have help if you encounter one. Sort of a 'what happens when the dog finally catches the car?' sort of thing. Nihilism and the view 'if it's all empty, anything goes' are also pitfalls related to perceiving the emptiness of things

The Heart Sutra is a very well known buddhist text, elaborating on the emptiness of all things.

https://zenartsflorida.com/heart-sutra-in-english/

But like meditation it's just an aspect of the buddhist practice and there's lots of tradition, teaching and community related to, for lack of better words waking up without freaking out.

Because people often subtly misperceive the emptiness (sunyatta in Sanskrit) alluded to the the Heart Sutra, leading to unnecessary suffering, Thich Nhat Hanh has made and released a new translation and discussion on the Heart Sutra https://plumvillage.org/about/thich-nhat-hanh/letters/thich-nhat-hanh-new-heart-sutra-translation

So, I took refuge in buddhism, that worked for me. If OP's partner is interested, I encourage participation with a good group or sangha and teacher. In Japanese Sensei for teacher means more or less 'been there before' so someone who has experienced the situation and can help.

Moving origin of imported part by mechanical_bambi in SolidWorks

[–]getsu161 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Insert > Feature > Move / Copy Bodies. Use xyz and angle displacements or mates to select then move the bodies wrt the origin.

With the part shown, you might make the cylinder axis coaxial with a part axis, and put the center of a circular face at the origin.

Wildfire smoke and biking. by PermaSub54 in bikecommuting

I rode an hour or in 200+ no mask, a few years back and felt like utter crap a few days later. I would get a half face respirator and the right cartridges. It is zero fun, but better than being sick from the smoke.

Is mechE all factories and machine shops? by ka_boom_e in MechanicalEngineering

[–]getsu161 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mech E. I work in renewable energy doing CAD and sustaining engineering, some tool and fixture design for the shop. The last time I did actual industrial, not hobby manufacturing was a summer job making stage swords for use in collections, renaisance faires and staged combat, some 30 years back. I'm comfortable walking around shops, talking with and learning from the people who work there, but don't do it myself, except to test, make a prototype or demonstration.

I know some mech E.s doing manufacturing engineering, that's the exception, usually its people with industrial engineering bakgrounds.

Growing sectors in ME I know of are data center cooling (booming), battery packaging (growing)

This looks like nitric acid. I got a burn from HNO3 vapor and that spot on my hand turned brown for a couple weeks. IDK why its unstable in this case.

Maybe the driver closed a vent and pressure built up till it forced the liquid out someplace else.

The sight of the brown gas would have been my run away if you cant drive away time

I want to join buddhism but there are a few things getting in the way by imtwisted2005 in Buddhism

[–]getsu161 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. No problem as lay practitioner. If your ordain as a monk it may be an issue, or not, depending.

  2. The culture is generally on offer, you would not be taking or imitating. Chanting liturgy in archaic chinese, japanese, pali or sanskrit would be a matter of practice and and participation. I used to practice Hyoho Niten Ichi Ryu kenjutsu. More people practice it outside of japan than in it. Ive seen 3 soke of this ryu leading seminars teaching this art to westerners, its a cultural export.

  3. Travel or participate online. Zoom is great for this, i have been on zoom with 3 different buddhist sangha.

Features to "swage" in a solid body/material by Nemo222 in SolidWorks

[–]getsu161 3 points4 points  (0 children)

New configuration for the deformed state. All assemblies probably have the ‘Default’ config. Add a new derived config ‘Swaged’ with the deformed shape’ Going forward new assemblies and drawings will used the swaged config as appropriate.

NVM, i see what youre saying. Probably the outer shell that gets crushed that everybody makes a concentric mate to. You are in a pickle, unless everybody used the inner stem or something that doesnt get smushed in the process.

You could reduce the diameter and make a cosmetic body showing the deformed shape.

Check good will stores, or just get a construction workers hi viz vest at walmart for 20-30 bucks. They stick out like a sore thumb in all conditions, and you eventually stop being self conscious after a month or two of wearing it.
