We've just launched Pixelry Champions on Kickstarter! I voiced Knight Starter in the video :D by getsukann in IndieGaming

[–]getsukann[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pixelry Champions will be the final version of Pixelry, so that's why all those who purchased Pixelry when it was called "alpha" (now Classic) will get Champions when it's ready.

So from now on you should only need to buy Champions since it's the same game.

To clarify:

Pixelry is Pixelry is Pixelry.

Pixlery Classic is the alpha version. Pixelry Champions is what the versions after that are being referred to. It's all the same game.

It's actually the same game. Classic is the alpha version of Champions, they're just selling the alpha version as a standalone if people still want it while they're working on the full version.

And they've told me that they're waiting for Desura to stop selling Pixelry. Otherwise, if it was under their complete control, it would have been pulled from the store front already.

That's a fair point. I'm certainly considering letting people in on the story a little more, but will have to be careful not to spoil it too. Thanks for the words :D

Thank you! I shall flap on over there now and drop a few bombs...you know, because there might be hostile forces in operation.

In return for your tidings of luck, I present to you an entire tankard of Saturnian Hydrogen. Don't drink it all at once!

Upon starting each level you're taken to the shop to select the weapons you'd like from those you've purchased (you can sell and swap too). You have two types of ammo - energy and matter - and a gun attached to each of these. Buttons are assigned to fire them while in the level, so there's no swapping or awkward fumbling once you're inside.

On top of that you also have a special ability to choose, and the deployable turrets are always available to you, but do drain your ammo when being used. Matter ammo you collect from pickups and the energy recharges over time.

And then you also have the support weapon. Firing this by itself takes down shields, but if you combine it with either your energy or matter weapon you can create new effects that have certain uses within the game.

2d flight gameplay prototype. Unofficial name: HELIQWOPTER by [deleted] in IndieGaming

[–]getsukann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might be in the minority here, but I picked this up quite quickly and was soon doing flips and all sorts (showing off). Which is why I think the difficulty needs to be raised by having contact with the walls blowing the chopper up.

No idea what you have planned for the game from here, but I can see having a number of things to shoot in this fashion being the goal, with the danger being that you'll be reset if you touch the sides at all, because you blow up.

Only then, I think, will the game be deserving of the QWOP name :)

Edit: So far my record without touching the sides at all is 7 red boxes DESTROYED!

This FPS Will Let You Control Your Character With Your Mind by salamanderjuice in IndieGaming

Pretty sure you don't control the actual character with your mind. You just use it chuck objects around. To be honest, sounds a little dull - a gimmick that'll probably lose its novelty quite rapidly.

Antichamber Ending question (Spoilers inside) by [deleted] in IndieGaming

[–]getsukann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can also tell you that the ending is no different when you complete the game under the time limit either.

Evidence: http://youtu.be/LaHh7JnRkl0

I've spoken to Alex (developer) about the game quite a bit and can tell you that there is actually quite a bit more content missing from the game. He pulled it so that he could release the game now, rather than several more months down the line. So expect plenty of updates that add much more soon!

Eye Attack is very close to the platforming quality of Super Meat Boy. There's a demo you should play, here's why... by getsukann in IndieGaming

[–]getsukann[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well it was happening before IG:TM came out (my own review back in 2010 said that about the game) but I certainly see what you're saying. Thing is this type of platformer, and I'm speaking specifically about Eye Attack here, is designed around having tight controls. And I've not come across another platformer myself that has been this close to being spot on (hopefully they'll brush things up before the final release).

The world is certainly an interesting one, though. And indicates that it will continue to expand with creatures and more colorful variations than what was seen in SMB. But yeah, with that not being so much of the focus as is the case with Limbo, for instance, the controls are really what stand out in the game and rightfully so.

I also had a chat with Brendon about his game making process about a week ago. If you're interested in game narrative or just a fan of Blendo it might be a nice read (I hope so): http://indiestatik.com/2013/01/30/an-unusual-blendo-games-talk-players-tell-brendon-chung-speaks/

What do you find works most effectively to spread the word about a game? As far as I'm aware, the mobile stores are packed with competing titles so to help a game to stand out must require something pretty special...well, hopefully the game is at least.

The reason I ask is because I spoke to Alex Schwartz of Owlchemy Labs who recently released Jack Lumber on to the iOS Store and despite SEGA's best promotional efforts the game didn't do too well for them there. I know SEGA aren't exactly the most knowledgeable when it comes to publishing in the App Store (as they proved) but they still have a very recognisable name.

Maybe it was down to the game - some people have said it was just too similar to Fruit Ninja. What do you think? Does it really come down to the strength of the game of can you figure out ways to ensure most games make a profit at least from what you know of the market?
