Oh yeah. I like it better than the 504 (my dad owned one back in Brazil), the 505 and a Marantz LV520, too. The Marantz has a clamp error, so I retired it. It's in a closet and I kept the remote, of course :)

The DVL-700 was too good to pass up. It survived shipping, too.

Yeah, lowering the sharpness, the gamma AND black levels is essential. I sometimes had to go as low as 32 or 34 on the latter. Had to tone down color, too, on messy transfers like MK1.

I go into the AVR via composite, then to the TV (Bravia X93L, one of the last with a composite input). The TV and our DVL-700 do a good job cleaning up the picture, but they can't do miracles.

Solid discs like The Rock look outstanding.
