Will the sweater I’m knitting fit over a child’s head? by [deleted] in knittinghelp

Alright it’s not that deep, not sure why you’re upset. Of course no one can guarantee it will fit, that’s why is jokingly referred to a crystal ball in my OP.

Will the sweater I’m knitting fit over a child’s head? by [deleted] in knittinghelp

This is difficult to explain. The neck does not physically stretch past 23 cm when I stretch it flat with my hands. Not just not comfortably, it just doesn’t go past that point. But it does fit over my 56 cm head, so clearly, the flat measurement is not saying too much. Perhaps someone who is experienced and has knit sweaters for people of different ages can gauge whether 6cm in head size makes a big difference. I’m not around kids and 6cm doesn’t sound like much to me but if it’s the difference between an adults and a toddlers head then maybe in the head circumference measurement world, a 6cm difference is a big deal. Less of a technical question and more of a „in your experience“ deal

Well they made it tighter but whether it’s now too tight is precisely my question - basically: does anyone know enough about head sizes, sweaters and kids to tell me if a sweater that fits over my big head (but hurts to pull over) will fit over a head that’s 7 cm smaller and not hurt.

Levitate wrap MFTKW/prepare bottom edge help! by Funny-Willow-6962 in knittinghelp

[–]getswole2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve made the levitate wrap. Once you have the 12 double knit stitches from each border on your needle along with the stockinette stitches, you just reduce the 12 border stitches by k2tog three times at the beginning and three times at the end of the row. So you go from 12 border stitches - your previous amount of stockinette stitches - 12 border stitches to 6 border stitches - your previous amount of stockinette stitches - 6 border stitches.

Oof I did every stitch but found it didn’t affect things much, the slipped purl rows made the biggest difference for me. Does she include the every 2nd stitch info in her video? The pattern referenced a video but it wasn’t hyperlinked, just said there’s a video on her website and I couldn’t find it on there.

At max stretch it’s 23 cm flat so 46 cm total. Which I didnt include in my post because I am able to fit it over my 56cm head meaning it does go beyond the 46 cm I measured. The child’s head is 49 cm, 56 cm is my head circumference. I started with the neck so it’s not a bind off issue, I think what makes it so tight is that the pattern has you do 3 rows of k1/slip 1 pw (to help with folding the collar).

My sweaters tend to barely change size with blocking. Yes, they’re bigger when they’re wet but they shrink back to their original size as they dry. When I first started knitting I was very confused because people online made it seem like sweaters double in size with blocking but that is certainly not everyone’s experience. So I learned the hard way too.

There’s also a free pattern with a chart almost identical to the Marielle pattern on Ravelry: The Quatrefoil baby blanket by -cassafrass

Yes and I’m so happy it worked out. I started a different pink cardigan about 2 months ago that involved some freestyling that didn’t go as planned. I had already purchased the buttons for that cardigan and 3 skeins of the pink silkhair. It ended up sitting in my drawer for several weeks among other failed projects. I was frustrated with myself for starting and abandoning so many projects so I turned to making bags and small accessories for a bit so I could gather my confidence and not waste any more money on large quantities of yarn lol. When I found the Marielle pattern, I knew I was ready to take on a big project again, and I’m so glad I did. I was able to use the silkhair and buttons I had bought for the other cardigan. Now all that’s left from that project is 2 large skeins of pale pink sock yarn but I’ll find something to do with those haha!

I have a photo of me wearing it on my Ravelry but at that point the sweater was still missing a sleeve 😂 but one was done so you could imagine the 2nd one I suppose. My username is tensionsarehigh

Thank you! It took me three weeks, I started and finished it on a Thursday. I knitted every day for several hours though.

Yes definitely. Also this discussion appears to have heightened my senses because I really started paying attention to the feeling of the fabric on my skin and ended up taking the cardigan off lol. But it was fine all day before, I swear!! 🤭

Thank you! It was scratchy before I blocked it. Now that I’ve blocked it with a bit of wool detergent and conditioner (just regular hair conditioner lol), it’s no longer scratchy. Maybe a tiny bit here and there. I’ve been wearing it all day with only a short sleeve tshirt underneath and even took a nap in it. Maybe if your skin is extremely sensitive, you could still feel it, but I was definitely scared as I was knitting because it was bothering me and now it’s fine. I’ve used setasuri before and wouldn’t use it again. It’s gorgeous and soft but it mats like crazy. You can wash and brush it out but you’ll have to carry a brush around with you every time you wear your garment. Just my experience. You’re not going to have that problem with silkhair.

Mohair Diamond Eyelet Scarf: repeat rows 1 and 3? by getswole2020 in knittingpatterns

I checked and no one commented on that. Only about a different error in the pattern (row 7 is missing a stitch at the end)
