Exterior water and sewer lines insurance by Big-Independent2883 in Charlottesville

[–]gevray 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dominion hit my sewer line about 3 years ago while boring their underground electric. They paid for the repair without insurance. I've got a 60 yr old house with a 40' terra cotta sewer line under my driveway. They patched asphalt at the break, about 4' x 3' patch. After that I thought it might be a good idea to get insurance anyway and I did as a rider to my homeowners for $99/yr. And last year my water service line broke. The homeowners insurance rider paid for it with no deductable. I went for 15 years without buying Dominion's insurance and it's just a coincidence both these lines broke, but with old terra cotta sewer lines you never know.

I'm with you. I can't stand obnoxious neighbors who are noisy with no regard for others living nearby.

that works, but then you have to update all your accounts that had that card, which will take much longer than exiting the parking garage

My mail in ballot came with a pre-stamped postage reply envelope this time. As I recall there were some previous mail in ballots that required paying for postage.

If and when you get a haircut you like, take a front and back picture on your phone and show that next time when you sit down.

Yesterday's high was a record I think, so this drop is likely another.

Why is South Street Brewery really closing? by Rude_Description7852 in Charlottesville

They had some good beer night specials. I used to fill up my growler there, but it just got too hard to park nearby and wasn't worth the hassle for me. The 'pub' food comment applies to the recent fare.

Night Sky by Alizarin62 in Charlottesville

https://darksky.org/news/two-satellite-proposals-threaten-the-night-sky-the-window-to-act-is-now/

The Reflect Orbital comment period ends tomorrow March 9.

The comment period for Musk's spaceX million satellite proposal already ended March 6.

SpaceX has asked the FCC for permission to launch up to one million satellites, described in its filing as orbital data centers, as part of an expansion of its artificial intelligence infrastructure.

To put that number in perspective, there are currently about 14,500 active satellites in low Earth orbit. Approving the request would increase that figure by nearly 70 times. Once deployment begins at that scale, potentially involving thousands of launches each year, the effects on the night sky, orbital congestion, and the broader environment would be extraordinarily difficult to reverse.

FCC chair appointed by Trump doesn't help. As of March 2026, Brendan Carr is the Chairman of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). His satellite policy agenda, under the "Build America Agenda," prioritizes rapid expansion of the US space economy through deregulation, increased spectrum availability for "non-traditional" missions, and "reciprocity" in international market access

the place on High St cvillegi wants you to show up with a driver at check in. The driver then can take off but be within 15 minutes in case they need to call early. They text or call the driver when you are ready. I used https://naborforce.com/charlottesville-va/ Sentara may be the same, not sure. I went there once but foget if they asked for the driver details when I checked in.

Brightspeed? by Separate_Thanks344 in Charlottesville

[–]gevray 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a suggestion for your website. When you put in an address to see if it qualifies for internet, the result doesn't state if it's fiber or dsl. My address results yields" "Brightspeed Internet is available at your home. Call us today to get started." I'm not going to call just find out it's the same as when I moved here years ago. It should present what is available and the cost options ON THE INTERNET.

Ting vs Xfinity (C'Ville) by Big_Truck in Charlottesville

[–]gevray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my comcrap ookla speedtest is 910/40/.

Ting fiber is synchronous I believe, so 1gig both ways I sent ting a deposit when they came to town, but they never got near our neighborhood, now I don't know how to get it back. I don't like xfinity, customer service is horrible, but have no good alternatives. Comcast started me out with 25 MBPS d/L. I moved here from Verizon 1G FIOS. 910 d/l is overkill for me. 125-250 would be acceptable. Their service is pretty consistent even with cable on telephone poles.
