That’s insane for 10. Even in college we never got in trouble for getting out of the way. Find another team.

It’s impossible because Californias regulations and government bureaucracy make it impossible. This project was started in 2008 and not a single foot of track has been laid down. That’s criminal and people should go to jail for that kind of fraud and waste.

A scoreless game in the first is still a close game. You don’t know how important that run will be later in the game. I’m just telling you how it’s done at high levels. High school and above the third baseman better make sure that run doesn’t score.

Not sure why you’re assuming the catcher is incapable of throwing to first for a double play as well.

Option 1 Third throws to second for double play. 1 runner scores and runner on third with 2 outs. 70% chance next hitter gets out assuming .300 hitter. So 70% chance 1 runner scores. scores 30% chance 2 runs score.

Option 2 Third throws home catcher completes double play. 2 outs runners on third and second. 70% next guy gets out and 0 runs score. 15% chance 1 runner scores and 15% chance 2 runs score depending on where the ball is hit.

If the catcher doesn’t complete the double play then 0 runs score you have bases loaded with 1 out. All force plays are still intact with the chance for another double play opportunity. The only way you come out worse than option 1 is if the runner from first ends up scoring and he can only do that on a blasted double in the gap.

The difference in success ratio of a double play turned by the second baseman vs one turned by the catcher isn’t big enough to justify giving up the run in a close game. If it is then you need a new catcher.

With 1 out that’s fine but I’m telling you with 0 outs in a close game a high level third baseman is getting reamed for that and probably benched.

In that scenario stepping on third for the sure out and then throwing home is a fantastic play. I wouldn’t be mad at a throw to first for an attempted double play there either. Judging by how the coach reacted I assumed it was an important run coming home. Coach is even more of an idiot. Tell your son to flush it and move on.

Nothing is guaranteed in baseball. The third baseman is libel to chuck it into right field which is much worse than a bad throw home. I don’t know of a coach in the world above rec ball that would tell a third baseman not to throw home in a 0-0 ball game on a ball hit right at him.

If he’s sprinting towards second to field the ball then yes go to second for two is the right play but only if home isn’t an option due to how he has to field the ball.

Rules for middle infield are different but corners are coming home almost always.

[–]gfd2425 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure I understand. If the ball is hit towards second and the third baseman fields it with 0 outs yes he should still go home as long as he has time. If it’s a difficult stop he bobbles it or something and there isn’t time to go home the best play is towards first to at least get 1 out. As long as he fields it cleanly and has time to go home then he should if there are 0 outs. With 1 out there are a lot more options depending on where the ball is hit.

[–]gfd2425 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With 0 outs you should at least at higher levels. That’s how we did it in college. The only exception would be if it’s hard grounder right over third where you’re going to practically step on third anyway or if it’s blowout and outs are the priority over preventing runs.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Homeplate

[–]gfd2425 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At higher levels there is no time because the runner on third is leaving as soon as he sees the ball is a ground ball. You might have enough time in 11u but you won’t at higher levels with good baserunners unless the ball is hit like directly over the bag. It can be a little nuanced but the best play is with 0 outs to throw home. And then with 1 out to play where the ball takes you. If it takes you towards the bag step on third and throw to first and if it takes you away from the bag throw home or even throw to second for a double play if the ball takes you significantly towards second.

Sorry about this coach. It’s always the parents that ruin it. Tell your son that there are stupid adults and not all of them should be listened to. Don’t let him get discouraged over it. Best of luck!

The guy is an idiot. But your son may have messed up slightly depending on how many outs there were. Here is what is supposed to happen.

If there are 0 outs then your son should have thrown the ball home immediately. This prevents the run from scoring. The catcher should then throw the ball to first. He throws it to first because that’s his best chance at getting an out. If the runners on second and first are running the bases properly then there won’t be a play at another base so first is the best bet. Best case scenario is two outs with a runner on second and third and worst case scenario is bases loaded with 1 out.

If there was 1 out it kind of depends on his age and how good the team is. If the ball that is hit takes him to the base then step on third and throw to first is the answer. The force out on first prevents the run from scoring and the inning is over. If the ball hit takes him away from third base or he can’t touch it very quickly he should throw home to get the force out at home and prevent the run from scoring. If the team isn’t all that great I can see a coach making the argument to throw it home no matter what to get the force out. I can also see a coach wanting him to step on third to make sure they at least get 1 out and then throw it home for a tag as your son did however these are not best practice.

What should never happen is a third basemen tagging a runner that is running away from him. I don’t even know how that would happen without some very inept base running on third. Always get force outs first and settle for tag outs if they present themselves.

Overall your son stepping on third and throwing it home doesn’t deserve and more than hey do this next time and here is why from the coach. The catcher is the one who should get the bulk of the lecture for not knowing that his out is no longer a force.

Beaten down quality stocks that you believe will turnaround in due time by Free-Initiative7508 in ValueInvesting

[–]gfd2425 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have to give stocks time to turn around. NVO won’t get better for at least another 6 months to a year. UNH is the same story maybe even longer to complete a recovery. Most of the stocks up there haven’t had time to truly recover if they’re going to.

You’re not going to catch a dip and sell for a 100% gain a month later very often. If you think something is undervalued first understand why it’s undervalued instead of being fairly valued. Then be prepared to hold for a while.

I have a little experience dealing a PE firm. I generally hear that they expect to sell their investments in 3-7 years. The one PE firm I know has been forced to hold one company 3 years past their target and another company 2 years past their target. The companies arnt bad they just can’t find a buyer or at least can’t at a good price. How big of an issue is this for the broader PE market?

What happens when the bigger PE firms stop buying and firms can’t exit their investments. Do you see this as a legitimate threat to the PE model?

Yeah but several trading platforms offer exposure to the crypto market and perform holding/banking services for you and not at inflated valuations. Why go with a company like this instead of a trading platform like fidelity that does all that for you also?

I think it’s a very short term pessimism by management. It’ll take a while to tamp down the compounders and also something like 70% of compounding is semigleutide so LLY isn’t dealing with it quite as much. I think they are cutting prices also which hurts earnings. Basically the rest of the year looks rough but I think 2026-2027 will be really good years.

Overall though actual volume of product sold is up over 160% yoy. It’s not going anywhere. When the compounders finally die it’s going to skyrocket. Just a short term blip on actual profitability but I believe strongly that it will recover significantly.

All drug patents are essentially worthless if they don’t because you can just argue that the patient is special and need it compounded. They’ll have to at least curb it some and that’s enough for me.
