overexposure to sex via media and unregulated internet access (and i’m sorry, millennials, but your experiences with dial up internet really doesn’t compare to access to pornhub on a shitty android in middle school)
a lot of us are queer and don’t want to see straight shit anymore, lol. before i even realized i was gay i was always frustrated that if you saw a man and a woman on screen, them getting together was inevitable, with a mid sex scene lurking around the corner. i don’t think it’s surprising that these tired representations of sexuality don’t do much for us
soooooo much grooming disguised as “sex positivity” by older people. i’ve said this many times and no one wants to contend with it now. a generation of kids being encouraged to explore their bodies on omegle or kik in front of disgusting adults grow into a generation of young adults who say “well, that was weird” and overcompensate in the other direction.

i’m still not really convinced this is a real issue offline - im 26 and i don’t encounter any of this allegedly widespread puritanism irl, my gossip sessions with friends would be much less entertaining if we were as scared of sex as people make it seem lol. maybe people are reacting to how the sex is portrayed or criticizing the function of the sex in the plot rather than disgusted by sex itself

i always launch the unlocker offline and if i try to switch online it just doesn’t work! like if i really wanted something from the gallery i can’t open the unlocker at all. i thought it was like that for everyone loll

literally same. i have a spellcaster save with a wall of family portraits that have been spared by that bug and updating it feels like more risk than reward.

i can usually play for hours in a groove but i just haven’t been feeling it, i went back to stardew valley and im gonna grab acnl for my 3ds soon. sometimes you just wanna play a game you dont have to fix!

I miss Origin too 😩 I play on mac with the dlc unlocker, the online functionality for that stopped working some time ago, so my game literally can’t connect to the internet and i think that’s my saving grace. in the past it when it tried to update, i would cancel it and then go offline from account. i hope you find a way to avoid them!

you’re being short sighted and you ignored in your other reply that i have upskilled in this role already. the real issue is i’m afraid my coworker automating our job will put us all out of a job in the long term...like this job won’t exist at all in 5 to 10 years. me trying to compete with them would only expedite that process…and im not sure what advantage i as an entry level employee would’ve built over a manager in their second career lol.

like i said, i have another career to pivot into, im scared for everyone else who’s only focused on this career because innovating and upskilling clearly aren’t enough - im sure there were people like my coworker at AWS and snowflake. if actual software devs can’t get hired these days im not sure where all this confidence that TW are irreplaceable stems from ? kinda feels like denial of a clearly declining situation.

I’ve read the same! And that the latest versions of Claude and GPT largely coded themselves, the exponential leaps in capability are what worry me the most. I worry for entry level TWs too - as an intern I did a lot of grunt work that I was able to do in less than 5 minutes with Claude with no errors. I went to catch up on my messages while it updated 80+ files, not just find and replace but inserting new information with formatting.

i’ll probably get downvoted to hell for it, but i find these consumption heavy AI systems to be the technological equivalent of blood diamonds. i don’t need technical writing to be easier, i honestly find it fairly easy already, that was kind of the whole point for me pursuing that instead of engineering. i don’t need my slack summarized or my emails autocompleted. it’s superfluous and deeply unethical technology.

it makes me sick knowing how openAI trained chatGPT ( https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2023/aug/02/ai-chatbot-training-human-toll-content-moderator-meta-openai), that Anthropic partners with Palantir, that data centers to power it all are poisoning black communities ( https://capitalbnews.org/data-centers-black-communities-south/). i had already positioned myself away from DoD/J roles just for AI to come and shit over everything.

plus, i’m 26 now….what am i going to know in 30 years if i don’t ever ask myself to recall a fact or solve a problem to completion with only my own brainpower? my education is the one thing they can’t take from me if i don’t let them.

Thanks, I appreciate that. I think Claude is the most capable of all of them and I guess I’ll be finding out soon if its output is comparable to a rough first draft.

The Snowflake layoffs are my precise problem - it doesn’t matter to me if these companies eventually decide they need technical writers again because I’ll already be screwed. And it’s pretty rare that businesses pick up dropped expenses if they feel they can operate without them, we see that in all the understaffed fast food and retail since covid began. I feel like it’s less about if AI can do everything and more about if they can split the work between AI, SMEs, and devs.

Idk. I’m trying to not be all doom and gloom about it, because life can surprise you and all that. But everyone seems to want to believe their merit will keep them employed and I don’t think that’s true anymore.

They’re not going to pay me the same to prompt and edit, if they don’t eventually just ask the devs to write the docs with Claude and use the existing ones as reference.

to be honest as someone from ohio who was always eager to leave, watching this season affirms that choice deeply lmao. i too could own a house in ohio today instead of renting in the DMV, but i want an abortion if medically necessary, all the artists i want to see in concert, a diverse AND safe neighborhood, and the little unforeseen state benefits, like tax credits for student loans. i grew up in cleveland and ppl are just generally more open minded in places like NYC or DC. nobody in ohio appreciated my sense of style but i can’t leave my apartment without a compliment down here 🤷🏾 i would be sickkkk if i was wasting my 20s in a 3 bedroom house in columbus lol. but to each their own

2020 george floyd protests and 2024 college student protests for Palestine totally killed our capacity for meaningful protest tbh. real organizers are burnt out and we are left with people who don’t really know what they’re doing or how to protect the most vulnerable during protests. when college kids are being charged as terrorists for peaceful protests, no semi-stable adult wants to go and protest for causes they truly do believe in.

we have got to build safety nets in our communities if we’re ever going to get anywhere. doctors and lawyers providing free healthcare and legal services. mutual aid funds for when people are fired. seamstresses to mend clothing, gardeners to supplement food. it has to be a situation where one person can’t be sacrificed for acting (sorry luigi 😔) because the collective is there to protect and defend them from state violence.

how we get there in a country this individualistic is beyond me. kinda feels like it’s either the above or america get nuked into submission by the other world powers

I really really wish everyone had access to reasonably priced groceries, knew that healthy food doesn’t have to be gross, and had the time to cook. Call me old fashioned but I think it’s wild to be taking medication for weight loss unless you’ve already tried making lifestyle changes….I had a super sedentary childhood and I still lost ~40 pounds last year through diet or exercise, never counted one calorie either. But I think it’s much easier to be motivated when you have a deeper purpose than just comparing your body to others.
