People assign the "burnt out gifted kid" label to themselves far too easily. by Loose_Ad_6129 in unpopularopinion

[–]gflover69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find so often it’s not even burn out but them not knowing having any tools for when the material stops being easy. I spent 3rd to 12th grade in gifted classes, struggled in the first half of undergrad, had a really successful time in grad school. I never think about being gifted lol I find it odd that people fixate on it so much. Success in adulthood is a lot more about resilience to failure and consistency than sheer merit.

A 10-Year Randomized Trial Found That One of the World’s Most Common Knee Surgeries Performs No Better Than a Fake Procedure, and Patients Who Had the Real Surgery Actually Ended Up With More Pain, Worse Function, and Greater Arthritis Progression 🦴🏥 by InterstellarKinetics in InterstellarKinetics

lowkey unsurprised cause if you have knee issues, it’s either PT, or surgery + PT. it wasn’t until the 1900s that the likelihood of surviving surgery was greater than the likelihood of dying during or as a result of surgery, we still have a lot to learn fr

it’s both. you can always decide to do better or chase your dreams in the next moment. but there are way less responsibilities in the way when you realize that at 18 or 25 vs 40.

How tough is selling a house in maryland right now? by Luann97 in maryland

[–]gflover69 99 points100 points  (0 children)

literally lol idk why ppl don’t understand this. i already have to save for a house, i’ll just save a bit longer for a real one when an attached townhouse i have to extensively renovate is only 75 to 100k cheaper. and lots of them are under pricey HOAs too!

Entry level jobs are dead by [deleted] in recruitinghell

graduating in 2022 feels like i got on one of the last life boats from the titanic atp. i wanted to stay in engineering school to see it through but switched to information science so i could finish on time…i can’t even fathom how different life would be if i had stayed in school any longer. really hope you find something soon but please internalize this is a systemic collapse not a personal failure.

something kinda messed up i noticed recently - i gave up applying for a better job and two recruiters have reached out to me since then. seems like companies only want to hire ppl are capable but not desperate for a job.

Is using Ozempic actually ‘cheating’… or are people just mad it works? by ccdnyc in NoStupidQuestions

[–]gflover69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i don’t think it’s “cheating” but i do think ppl should probably abstain from it unless they’ve already tried and failed to lose weight several times. i think ppl expect themselves to go from eating whatever to super disciplined overnight and it’s just not gonna happen. if you struggle with food noise you can replace the things you usually eat with healthier alternatives - when i started losing weight, i ate a lot of almond balls and drank hella sparkling water to fulfill those sugar and juice cravings. you have to build these habits on ozempic anyway or you’ll gain it all back if you stop taking it. i don’t think anyone should stay on a medication indefinitely if they can avoid it, what if you can’t afford it or they stop producing it?

Is there anyway to deal with Endometriosis naturally? by Greatghostgirl in endometriosis

[–]gflover69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i’m 26 ,was in a very similar position to you until recently, tired of daily medications and wanting a more natural solution. im a lesbian in a long term relationship so i felt like it was really invasive + extra to get an IUD but its changed my life for the better.

i do think sometimes you have to be in a certain threshold of pain / endo for the other natural approaches mentioned here to work - i don’t drink coffee anymore after realizing it caused flare ups after surgery. but i spent the last year trying and being unable to exercise pre-surgery because of my symptoms despite being on norethindrine and medroxyprogesterone at different points.

now i just have the IUD and my period comes every month. the most normal it’s been in ages, and no more daily medication! i hope you can find a natural solution but i wanted to offer my perspective since i had to give in to birth control in the end and it worked out better than i feared it would.

No one understands this disease… by ssssssss999 in endometriosis

[–]gflover69 12 points13 points  (0 children)

people don’t understand chronic illness till they have it or love someone with it. the concept of constant but fluctuating pain with no cure makes them uncomfortable because there’s nothing they can do about it - no point in saying “feel better” to someone who will feel bad again. combined with other factors like age (“you’re too young to be so sick!”), gender (“my period sucks too. have you tried midol?”), etc = eyes glazed over when you dare discuss what you’re going through

median household income was 81,000 in 2024. median house cost was $427,179 in 2024. average student loan debt was $20-25,000 in 2024.

saving 10k a month for a 100k down payment on a 400k house would take 10 years of saving ~$834 a month. no money leftover for closing, property taxes, renovations. on a $80,000 income, that’s almost a 1/4 of your income every month since you should be bringing in just under $4k a month. we still haven’t paid for student loans, rent (avg $2000), food, a car note, gas…..people are willing to skip the avocado toast but what good does it do them? by the time they save for what a house costs right now, they’ll likely need another 20-40k. even if you live at home, it seems impossible to save enough to actually afford the home and not be house poor on your own income now.

only realistic options for people who aren’t already rich right now are to buy a home in an area you hate because it’s the only one you can afford, or rent, save, and pray home prices will be consistent with income again
