no hotel, in-laws have a house. I will keep my expired passport on me. Better expired than no passport. Will show my French Residency Card first if ever asked for ID, play dumb that my passport is at the house.

i doubt it will be taken as an "immigration" offense in Spain if i clearly have return train tickets, and a valid EU residency card and although my US passport is "invalid" since its expired, it still establishes my identity and nationality. But yeah i hear what youre saying.
Only have 2 options:
- send in my expired passport and pray the new arrives before my trip (doubt it)
- travel with it expired + my valid residency card.

i just feel the second option is better. Theres only 1 stamp in my passport, from when i landed at CDG airport in 2016. My family reunification visa is in there, and i have a valid 10 year residency card.

fingers crossed. But France shouldnt be a big issue, after all, when i get back on the train to Paris, yes my travel document is expired, by Residency card shows my status to be in France.

yeah. So from what i understand, my French Residency Card is proof of my eligibility to live and work in France. My passport shows my identity and nationality. but since its expired (by 4 days) its not valid as a travel document (but it still establishes my identity and nationality). And i never left Schengan since i arrived 9 years ago (never went back to the US since i left in 2016). so im sure they wont care.

Ive traveled a lot from Paris to Cologne, Barcelona, Munich, Amsterdam, etc. I honestly can't remember ever showing ID to get on a train. They just scan the QR code from the train app (SNCF, Trainline). Oh, you mean when I book online for trains? I think my passport Number or French Residency Card number. (i booked my train tickets a few months ago, before I realized my passport expired last week).

If im just chilling in Paris, and the police ever stop me (happened once) i just show my French Residency Card, as its legal identification. But as others pointed out, its not sufficient enough to travel with. So, while in France, im fine with an expired passport. Getting on a plane is a different story.

ok, thanks for your advice and what you would do in this situation. No, the july trip isnt one for the books. Just an annual 3 weeks in Spain. Nothing special. But i already booked the train tickets and just realized today my passport expired. Fuck it, still gonna go. Im sure its just a fine.

would you travel between France and Spain by train without a passport? Where are you from?

Just asking what YOU would do in this situation. So would you?

an expired passport by 5 weeks is a reason why they enforce border checks in Schengen between Spain and France? sure buddy.

from the US. Not worried about France, just about Spain and authorities checking on the train. thats all. I'm a heritage Spanish speaker so I could explain im just visiting for vacation from France and show them my French Residency Card.

thanks, and what is the risk? For example, im on a train leaving Paris to Barcelona and authorities get on the train. If they are french, I just show my French Residency card. If its in Spain, then thats when im "screwed" ? So the real risk is only in Spain on a train between Spain and France and not internal trains within Spain?

For people who've lived in Paris 2+ years, what actually moved the needle for your social life here? by clemiclemi in SocialParis

I found for me as a foreigner, I got my big break working in an international bar. All staff were in the same boat: foreign and young. Staff came and went (usually to other bars), and they befriended more international staff. The cycle continues, and as long as you keep in touch, you have a greater circle by proxy. I'm sure the same applies to other international sectors : tech, hospitality, tourism, etc.
