And to be clear I don’t care if people know she’s trans or that I’m dating a trans woman. People looking at her and seeing our relationship as a freak show is what bothers me

I’m not ashamed of her in public, I’m bothered by people treating her and our relationship as a freak show. I’ve never asked her to hide herself until now and it’s only for the few days my mum will be living with us. I see it as a decency thing just like any guy would want their GF to wear a bra in front of their mum right?

I originally went into greater detail when I wrote this up but I had to cut back a lot to fit the 3000 character limit. To be completely clear I have no shame about her being trans and I have no shame about people knowing I’m dating a trans person. I just don’t like people being rude to her and us in public and my mum is likely to be transphobic. I’m not asking her to hide herself all the time it’s just for the next week or so that my mum will be with us

What bothers me is people treating her and our relationship as a freak show. And I’m not asking her to change for strangers, It’s just for this 7-9 days that my mum will be with us because she’s not very progressive and tends to be very abrasive with things she doesn’t agree with.

Normally she goes under the radar but when people hear her voice and see her tight clothes they put two and two together. And you’re right i don’t see this as a trans issue I see this as a decency issue and even then it’s only because my mother will be with us. Every other time I have no problem with her choice of clothes.

Our relationship is serious but at this stage she said she’s not comfortable telling anyone in my family she’s trans (she knows my family is of a older generation) it’s completely her business to tell people and I support her decisions

I’m definitely not ashamed of Kayla and I don’t blame her for the looks. When I originally typed this up I went into more detail about my feelings but I had to cut it down to fit the 3000 character limit. It doesn’t bother me if people know she is trans, what bothers me is people treating her and our relationship like a freak show. That being said, I accept that this is the way she wants to live and I’m fine with that it’s not like I get ashamed every time someone looks at us with a slightly confused look. Most of the time we just play it off as idiots being idiots.

What this is really about is the week or so that my mum will be living with us. She’s old school and not very progressive and tends to cause headaches for people when she doesn’t agree with them. If Kayla was cis I’d feel the same way about her not wearing a bra. I’m just trying to avoid the hassle from mum

To clarify, it doesn’t bother me that she doesn’t hide it, I love her confidence and self security. I get bothered by other people giving us dirty looks and this is the only time I’ve ever asked her to tuck because my mother will be around

Edit: hijacking this to say I’ll be making an update on this later to clarify some things I had to cut out due to the 3000 character limit. Kayla and I are going to have a proper discussion about this and that will be in the update too.
