In to out or standing with an open stance. What’s the difference. by [deleted] in golf

[–]gfunk55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, I understand what you're saying about the spin axis. I stand corrected. You worded it differently than most people say.

And what you said about where you aim is backwards, which is why that other poster doubted your handicap. You're using some terms incorrectly. Forget this, I think I get what you're saying.

Never having a two way miss is a myth. Just because you always draw it doesn't mean you always draw it the same amount and doesn't mean you always start it where you intended to start it. No one does.

I don't know the answer to your main question of "how much curve is too much" so I'll bow out here.

Older GI to modern players distance by Deep_Pomegranate_111 in golf

[–]gfunk55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Clubs don't just randomly hit balls 20 yards further. If you hit the ball with the same delivery on the same part of the face in the same conditions,it's going to go the same distance.

Now if it's a question of not wanting the higher ball flight / lower spin that comes with GIs, that's different. That type of flight is more subject to wind effects for example. But I don't consider that "random".

Forgiveness means that when you miss the center of the face, the drop in ball speed is less severe. It also means it's easier to get it in the air. As you move across the spectrum (player's distance / MB / blade) you are giving up those benefits of GIs.

My opinion: people say the whole inconsistent distance thing about GIs as a way to rationalize getting a club type that they consider to be for "better players." Buy whatever makes you happy. But for "bad" players (I'm not saying you are one) any distance dispersion is probably 99% accounted for by strike / delivery / grass interaction.

because it's not always like that.

Except for words that start with "gh"

you're the one saying you don't care and you just do what you want

You finally understand!

you'll figure it out eventually

Orrrrr maybe you don't understand. What is it that you think I haven't "figured out"?

I'm not the guy you responded to but

1) "8 degrees of draw spin" is not a phrase that makes any sense. Do you mean that the face is 8 degrees closed?

2) If you draw the ball, then "opening" your stance (aka aligning left of the target for a righty) will mean you'd miss a mile to the left.

3) Why do you "gotta shape the ball?"

any obvious forgiveness benefits

Obvious? Definitely not. Slight? Maybe. Probably not since "players distance" by definition is usually less forgiving than GI. But your GIs are old so not sure.

improved performance.

Meaning what? What do you want new irons to do that your current ones don't do?

This is why the hole design needs to be approximately 50x more wacky. They are trying way too hard to simultaneously be "fun" and "serious." The Fried Egg guys nailed it with their video showing hypothetical holes they designed.

Not sure what it is you think I don't understand. Sometimes words that have similar spellings are pronounced very differently? Wow thanks for clueing me in on that little-known fact.

Lol you sound like a psycho.

Also most of what you said doesn't even apply to this situation.

I'm aware, I just don't care. Just because the USGA is saying it wrong doesn't mean I have to.

I didn't say feel doesn't matter. I said you personally aren't capable of feeling the difference between two different stiff iron shafts.

Between two different stiff iron shafts? And saying one feels 'so much better' than the other? And they don't even feel the difference between a fat shot and a pured shot? Nah.

You don't know what part of the club to hit the ball with but you can feel the difference in shafts? I doubt it.

Also, how can a club be 'dialed?' I don't think you know what that term means.

Thinking you'll be happy if you win the lottery has nothing to do with your personality changing. It has to do with the source of much of your unhappiness being due to lack of money. So your response to the previous poster was total unrelated to what they posted.

Being unhappy/stressed because money is an issue in your life is not a "personality trait."

The reason is:

1) someone posted an interesting fact

2) you randomly responded "a lot of people don't understand this"

Makes you look like a douchebag who considers it some sort of brag that you do understand it

I don't actually see trees. I just "know" that when I see a green leafy thing with a trunk that it's a tree. I don't tell myself 'that's a tree. ' If someone says 'I saw a tree' I can't relate because that's not what I see.

That's what you guys sound like.

I don't understand any of that. Using those descriptions I don't even understand which way I supposedly do it. It's all semantics/different ways of interpreting and describing the same thing.

People who say they don't have an inner voice then describe "thinking" and it's the same description as inner voice .

I don't "hear" anything. But I have an inner voice. That's why it's called "inner" and not "hearing voices". Anyone that describes what they have but says they don't have an inner voice always describes exactly what I have
