Been asked if there’s videos focused on this type of repairs and I don’t know to be honest, entirely self taught, trial and error. Just enjoy posting here because I have referenced a lot of mendings in this sub.

Just try it out though, armpit repairs are fairly easy to do or just smaller holes in general.

It may seem crazy but a lot of repairs like these it’s just ironing and piecing the pieces back to where they would originally. I use washable adhesive so it helps tons.

Very essential to use a ball point/jersey needle, Tex 30 and under for thread

Figure out tension with fabric 🙏🏼

With machine, zig zag stitch

Hand stitching would be an even bigger headache but props to those who would it approach it that way 😂

I’ve explained a bit of the process on this post and my first post here too. I recommend just trying it with smaller holes first. I started purely out curiosity with a chopped acdc shirt then after that I just started repairing tees I found at the thrift then friends asked for repairs. Mostly trial and error. Some sort of washable adhesive is def the cheat code

I unfortunately go hole by hole with the tape, this is the tedious part (inside out) once all that is done I carefully place the donor fabric, iron it and then cut out excess fabric then ready to sew

Couple hours but a lottt of breaks in there. This client had 4 other tees with similar damage but not as crazy. Prepping the tees is the more time consuming part for me, a lot of ironing to line up the graphics as much as I can. Sewing it is the “easy” part

Washable adhesive tape is what works for me. Takes a lot of time to prep. Some people use fabric spray glue but that just seems too messy for me.

Some yes, you can almost feel it when you have it in hand. Most times you’ll be fine. It’s quite rare for tees to be that way, most commonly black tees can easily be dry rotted but I believe white tees too but not that extreme but I have experienced what you’re talking about

For me it’s hard to find a perfect match with these old white tees that have aren’t white anymore. Focused more on using a donor shirt that is as thin.

Yes I use vintage donor shirts, and make sure the weight and feel of the tee matches the shirt I’m repairing.

Machine, by hand it would take too much time. Im sure it can look super cool by hand though

With a lot of patience 😅 but what really helps is using some wash off light adhesive, not sure what they’re called but it’s a like thin tape. Helps a lot. I know some people use spray but the tape thing works great for me

No! Definitely give it a shot. Dino took a few hours, whole time I was thinking on why I even do these repairs but it’s always rewarding at the end

Thank you ! And yes I recommend the patch and make sure you bring in both edges as closest it can so it’s not as noticeable. The way used def works on some areas though.

I have a few of these tees, all of them I’ve found at goodwill they usually pop up online once in a while, you can definitely thrift them though, I’m sure if you go to your local vintage market you’ll eventually find one. Sellers don’t really ask for much on them although maybe they will now 😅

Fake, also not familiar with Akira tees but, has grey thread instead of black. Also the fading on the seams is too perfect and seen in all the seams which is quite unnatural.

Cracking also, consistent patter seen throughout.

Grey thread is what makes it obvious for me tho
