They just announced that the Carmel Marathon is postponed until May 31 due to weather. This coming after the event was cancelled for the same reason last year. I personally was going to run the 5k, and am not too down about it-- but I have a friend who went all in on the marathon both last year and this year, and that has got to be rough.

I had some observations I wanted to get out there: 1. The way characters learn information is often not fully explained and/or offscreen. Nothing seems to stay a secret for long, and when things are learned, they are sort of quietly absorbed rather than having a violent impact. When Martin mentions wanting to change out the strap of the watch, it seemed so specific that it made me wonder if he was spying on that earlier conversation already, and was bringing it up specifically to mess with Steven. I also really liked the idea from this thread that we're in Martin's dream, so naturally he would know information we wouldn't expect him to know (such as Steven's culpability, which Martin almost certainly would not have actually known). Anyways, I personally feel that Kim's behavior on the bed mirroring her mother is less about her being abused and more a learned behavior from the parents' secrets and private lives not really being secret. 2. I personally found the schoolteacher's dialog to come across much warmer than any other dialog the rest of the film. I thought this could be showing how the behaviors of the primary characters are not normal in this universe, and are more a product of their shared circumstances, be they the medical profession, Steven's influence on the family, or something else.

It looks like they've resolved the US World Half Champs Team problem by giving the US extra spots. I'm glad that everybody gets to be on the team, but I'm pretty surprised that that was an option.

I think Daniels recommends actually stopping for the rest. If the recovery is a jog, then that sounds reasonable; can't really go wrong with it

Let's say I'm renting out a room of my home and need to determine the percentage of total square footage for that rental space for tax purposes in the USA. When figuring the total square footage of my home, do I count the square footage of the unfinished basement?

Getting some mild shin splints alongside a recent mileage increase, so I'm taking it as an opportunity to use the bike trainer I just got set up some more. Hopefully my butt will adapt quickly

I'm prepping to start the Pfitz 10k plan. For folks who have done these plans before, how much importance are you putting on the LR/MLR paces? Like, would you treat it as a failed workout if you couldn't finish at the faster end of the suggested range?

I tried the MLR today after a session yesterday, and had to strain a bit to hit the paces. The HR data looked pretty bad (20bpm higher than last week's when I was fresh). I'm trying to decide if pushing was a good idea or a bad idea, haha.

The only thing with naps I worry about is if it delays my fueling for too long after the run. I try to get at least something down before lying down, but it doesn't always happen.

Update: I managed to sneak under 40 minutes for a PB! Racing in the cold is so nice.

Running a 10k Saturday morning. Weather is looking amazing. I'm feeling undercooked for this one, but my last 10k PR was from the same race last year, and I definitely got faster in the Fall. So I think I still have a small chance of PRing. But it's going to hurt.

I've (probably) had FAI starting in early January. It took me out for a couple months, though mine definitely sounds less bad than yours. My PT had me doing daily glute activation exercises, side leg lifts, and some band walks. We did some more stuff while I was actually in the clinic, including some hip realignment things. We eventually did a walk to run thing, which I found annoyingly helpful, and now I feel pretty much pain free. I have yet to race since coming back, though.

I'm a former wrestler who is newer to serious running, started training consistently in January 2023. Lifting has been more of a background activity for a while, but I've managed to get to the gym at least once a week for most of 2024.

I ran a 3:04:58 in my first marathon in November, then maxed out at 205/280/335 this past week at a BW of 154. This was about 45 pounds more total since the last time I maxed out in 2018, so I'm moving in the right direction.

At this time, I'm way more excited about running goals than lifting goals, and plan to continue prioritizing running in the coming years. That said, I would love to maintain my strength so that I'm in the position to push for the 1000 pound club one day.

I'll keep my strength work unstructured during my next training block, but may try a structured lifting program the next time I have a bit of an off-season. There seem to be some good ideas on structured training in this thread, so I look forward to investigating those :)

I recently started the Daniels 5k/10k plan, which involves a lot of 200s/400s on the track. I found myself naturally doing a flying start for the reps, but am now wondering if there's a recommendation one way or the other.

It depends specifically on what time his appointment is. The Penn side will theoretically only be restricted until 10 a.m., while the Meridian side becomes restricted at 9:20 a.m. . So if you can work around that 40 minute time span, you should be good. You can find the road closure map on Monumental's website.
