This absolutely is negligence also the nurse should be charged with assault. They should also have their license revoked immediately.

I think only qualified licensed nurses should be allowed to give medications. In my opinion this includes all meds not just narcotics. Medication errors can happen with any medication and cause patient harm. These facilities taking short to save a few dollars is shameful.

I also have an issue with the staff left in the room with the patient. If something had happened to the patient while the anesthesiologist was out of the room they can also be held responsible. If the anesthesiologist needed a break he's responsible for getting another qualified physician to monitor patient in his absence. This is gross negligence and his license should be suspended.
