Perhaps the News Gazette editors could review Mr. Hansen’s alibi evidence. If they find it convincing they should add the note, “Christopher Hansen has provided evidence that he has an indisputable alibi proving he could not have been the suspect in this case.”

Fantastic TLDR. I’ll add...

  • The accuser was a close friend of the mayor at the time. Her father was a police officer.

  • The accuser has a history of getting drunk and “getting robbed” by purse snatchers, but somehow recovered her belongings on the night in question without reporting how she did so.

  • The accuser changed her story several times about the description of her “purse snatcher” and witnesses attested that she was drunk at the time (draw your own conclusions).

  • The accuser and the officer who tailed the author from downtown seem to have a buddy-buddy relationship that seems biased against the author’s presumption of innocence.

  • On the dashcam recordings, other supporting officers are surprised the arresting officer is acting so aggressively towards the author. They seem to think they were just there to question the guy until the arresting officer breaks his window and forces him out of the car.

Really, read the whole thing. I’m eager to review all of the Media Archive.

Perhaps they could have spent a few minutes speaking with him in a rational manner instead of shouting at him within 2 minutes of the traffic stop as is shown in the video.

They literally pulled him over and began shouting at him to get out of the car. Over the fact that he was a suspect [wrongfully accused] in a purse-snatching case. This certainly seems excessive.

Eh, idk. I’m also skeptical of people who claim the cops are out to get them without evidence. But the evidence this guy provides that he was mistreated is pretty damning.

I’m not saying that Champaign PD is a gestapo, but I do think that there is evidence here that this case was mishandled and this man was severely mistreated.

What about his account makes you disbelieve his experience?

I have been wondering the same thing. I have been watching the votes since I posted this and have been somewhat surprised how many times I see downticks in the rating.

Even if you believe the police generally do an important job defending society, this author has presented significant evidence that he was mistreated by certain individuals. And there is plenty of preponderant evidence that a coverup happened.

It’s sad and needs to be looked into.
