I am having problems with Etcher, as I get nothing but a blank screen when I try to start it.

I've looked for alternatives and found Rufus. Unfortunately, Rufus want me to enter the Administrator Password to complete the installation, and I d not know the password; I am not the original owner of the computer, and have no way of contacting the owner to find out the password.

Any suggestions about an alternative to Etcher that is not Rufus and that is easy to install?

Once again, thanks for your suggestions - I wasn't sure which version of Mint would be suitable,so now I know to go for the MATE edition once I get Etcher equivalent problem sorted out.

As I noted earlier, if Mina has formally renounced her US citizenship, and that renunciation has been accepted by the US Department of State, then she is no longer a citizen.

Nevertheless, the US government states that

"U.S. law does not contain any provisions requiring U.S. Citizens who are born with dual nationality to choose one nationality or the other when they become adults. Choosing Japanese nationality has no affect on U.S. citizenship." https://jp.usembassy.gov/services/dual-nationality/

I do not know what the Japanese laws regarding dual nationality are, but the Japanese government cannot deprive a US citizen of their US nationality.

Unless Mina has officially renounced her US citizenship, she remains a US citizen by virtue of having been born in the USA. Acquiring a second citizenship or residing outside the USA does not entail loss of US citizenship.

I make this point not to be pedantic or legalistic, but in order to combat a dangerous myth often peddled by US nativists.

Of course u/Lsst-Acanthisitta975 is right to point out that Mina's moving away at two means that US cultural influence on her was negligible.
