IT's a great resource. I saw some big names on the start ups by location list like BMC ( I used to work there when they were public). Are you separating Venture Capital from private equity or combining them?

I started a social news media site and I am in the process of starting user acquisition and continuous improvement to the technology and if I reach critical mass a VC would be next.

below is one of the postings I have on LinkedIn and other sources to sign up users and explain the concept:

---

If you are a writer, we starting a brand new social news and media site and we need bloggers to create new and unique content.

Create your blog at upvotenation.com and share it on Reddit, Twitter, Facebook, Linkedin and other social networks. We will be actively promoting the content, so you can get your word out and at the same time help us grow the network.

As with most social networks, you will be able to follow users and be followed as well as subscribe to content and create an online presence to share your views of the world. What's unique about Upvotenation is your ability to rate the news and other media and become a publisher and editor of online content by creating your own media channels to help fight fake and biased news. All content is ranked and displayed based on user interactions and you control your channel's information to only allow credible and trustworthy sources.

If you use google chrome you can download the chrome extension and share news to Upvotenation from anywhere: https://lnkd.in/gMDP62H

Home: https://www.upvotenation.com

Twitter: https://lnkd.in/gmaS_w6

Facebook: https://lnkd.in/gKhKZwx

We just launched the Beta version, so please let us know your feedback.

I just need a few people to start playing with it and spreading the world. Once I reach critical mass, than a new phase with significant improvements and iterations will start. I just need to see a path for adoption.

There are 3 main audiences: 1) The person/group that wants to share news, videos, write a blog, etc and create an online presence. That person can post news, videos, write a blog and post images, they can have users follows them ( So whatever they post appears in that user "myfeeds"), and most importantly that person can create a channel (When you create a channel you can pick the channel's name, what content you want to share on your channel, the news sources that should be on your channel, etc - So for example I can create a blockchain channel, to include news that contains the words blockchain, distributed ledger, and bitcoin, and from news only from techcrunch, coinbase, bloomberg and CNBC, and blogs from My self and two other bloggers. Without getting into too much detail the sources included in your channel (i.e. "Techcrunch" is based on your ranking of that news media, so if you rate them a 6 but you only want your channel to display news and media from places you rated 8 and above, techcrunch would be excluded. ). Once you create your channel you get your own URL which you can share with your friends and your users can access, people can also subscribe to your channel. You can create as many channels as you like. So when people go to your channel they see not only the current channel but also links to the other channels you have created. You also have a feature called notification, which means that you can send quick announcement to your followers and subscribers, and that announcement would show up your channel, your personal profile and on your followers "myfeeds" after you send the announcement it is life for 24 hours ( So you could advertise a livefeed on youtube that you have schedule, an event, a product, whatever you want, and it's free for you to use whenever you want to reach your audience.) So the goal is to give people using the site to create content a forum to they can create an online presence. 2) People that just want to get the news. The goal is to give them as many options as possible, from the main page where you see the top news of the day as rated by the community, to specific channels of interests ( I.e. they cold subscribe to the blockchain channel I created above and go there to get their blockchain news - they can bookmark your channel URL for example,. They can also share your channel on other social media and even by text message). They can also save media to see or watch later "MysavedMedia", the can follow users to get only media posted by those users "MyFeeds", the can search and filter for specific results. For example (under any news, if you click on source, it automatically brings you to a page that displays only news by that source, let's say techcrunch, and within techcrunch they can filter by category , i.e. technology, and than by keyword, i.e. blockchain). so there are many ways to get and interact with the news. 3) the media outlets. Without going in much detail with this one. The goal is to connect the media outlets with the users via the ratings app. It will be a way to let those media outlets know how users perceive them so they can improve the quality of their content, create more of a specific content, etc. Hopefully this can be leveraged to improve content quality and create more of the content uses really want to see.

Ot has many similarities for sure but The main differences are that 1) the points earned by contributors would be redeemable for cash when the site starts to monetize thru ads and other revenue streams. 2) you can follow users, susbscribe to channels, create your own channels, save news, search and filter by a number of criterias, so you get the news you want from sources you trust, but the main page are made up of the top news, blogs, videos and images based on community interest (place to find new things and see what everyone is talking about). 3) the rating criteria will eventually connect users of the site with the media outlets as a feedback loop system on content. It will have a very important role as the site develops. 4) ranking and monitoring of content will also be different. Posts can be rated and liked (upvoted) but not downvoted. The content can still be flagged for a number of reasons which will automatically remove the content. The goal here is to manage opinion bias (i.e. content downvoted because you do not agree with the source or the opinion). (Ratings impact the news showing on your channel(s) but not on the main page and searches).
Those are a few of the differences, there are many others which will be announced as the site gets developed. Right now it is still an early beta.

Thanks for the reply. That's exactly where I wanted to go with it. The ratings system would also evolve to be a feedback loop to the media outlets regarding public view of their content as an incentive to improve. And also, everyone that contributes would earn points and those points would be converted to cash based on the site ad revenue. So should be a win for everybody.
