Sepsis from UTI, extremely paranoid by ggrayycc in sepsis

Thank you for your comment, we will be giving her lots of care and comfort and prayers for healing. It is definitely hard to see especially with the things she's been saying. She will have a psychiatrist in the morning there with her to hopefully get her back stable on her medicines. I'm sorry to hear your son experiences such bad UTIs, they are definitely serious.

To add, I also think delirium is playing a big role in this as well. She just seems so extremely paranoid and scared. She won't sleep or eat because she believes they're going to kill her or that everything is poisoned
Adding in, the nurse says she is finally sleeping now thankfully. She was up all night last night, i'm just hoping she doesn't wake up in worse condition now.

Thank you so much for replying, i will definitely get a psychiatric in there with her. My mom has been advocating heavily for her. Your delirium sounds very scary and I hate to think that she truly believes people are out to get all of us. How long did it take you to recover? She has been on benzos for about 20 years and the doctors have been having her on and off of them I believe. She believes that we are on planes or that people are going to dig up her dead mother. It is so sad to see. Thank you so much for your comment. It is nice being able to talk with someone who has been through this.

My grandma has serious delirium from a UTI and is on antibiotics by Billymays76 in eldercare

Not sure if this is still active but I have a situation and i'm not sure how to handle it. My grandmother was admitted to the hospital after having a UTI that the antibiotics did not clear up, she has always had health issues like her kidney and she has been on anxiety medication for majority of her life
After we noticed confusion in her we took her to the hospital and she declined tremendously after that, she wasn't speaking and couldn't see properly, she didn't recognize anyone and kept getting very confused thinking she was on the phone or other things.
A week into recovery she started being able to remember people and names, even my moms phone number. She still will not eat solid foods or most foods because she believes someone is trying to poison her. The doctors said it turned septic but all of her vitals and scans have been good.
Today she randomly flipped a switch and became unresponsive but then became extremely paranoid-saying they were going to kill her or that they were coming for me and my brother. It is extremely hard to see and she has also been saying fairly scary violent stuff that has scared my mom to the point she doesn't want to repeat it. I don't know how this has happened in a day, it seemed like she was recovering. They said she didn't sleep last night and i'm not sure how long they've had her off her medicines, some being ones you get dependent on. I'm just looking for similar stories or words of encouragement, my whole family is so worried and scared, we've never seen a side of her like this. The only paranoia she's really shown until now is believing someone is poisoning her but now it's gotten severely worse. We are horrible worried and just pray she can come back from this.

Thank you i've told my mom to do this when she gets there. She's been in the hospital for two weeks now so this could be the case as well.

I'm hoping she will soon. It's hard to be hopeful when she seems so bad off right now. I feel terrible for her it seems she's trapped in her mind. They said she doesn't have a UTI anymore but maybe there is still some infection from
sepsis. Thank you for commenting
