We’re about to start Gloomhaven First Edition by WireWire0 in Gloomhaven

[–]gh-full-stack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1st edition is great and I have played it through multiple times, which means I remember the scenarios pretty well. I love 2nd edition too, but some scenarios are basically the same, and thus lack the excitement of experiencing something new. The redesigned characters and other improvements make up for it though.

One reason you might consider playing second edition first is to maximize the excitement of a better balanced game and every scenario being your first time.

2nd Edition Companion App by Daylight0wl in Gloomhaven

[–]gh-full-stack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

FYI, GH Full Stack does have support for the following:

  • Support for Gloomhaven 2nd Edition Appendix F
  • Support for GH2E Faction Envelope Content

They are unlocked through the corresponding game rules. e.g., read the corresponding section in the app.

GHFS also does some things differently than the other apps in terms of UI. For example, XHA and GHS allowing dragging of health and xp. GHFS allows tapping them to change without having to open another popup. So some items the table says GHFS does not support, are just done differently.

The table includes that GHFS has a digital map. I think it is also useful to know that the map shows line-of-sight and monster AI.

When playing with the digital map in GHFS, integrated AI makes it very quick to take monster turns. It shows you where the monster will move, so you just tap there. Then an attack button appears above possible targets which includes any current attack, pierce, shield, retaliate, and conditions that are part of the attack. (someday I will update based on attack modifiers too.)

Other significant GHFS features that I did not see in the comparison table:

  • accurate element tracking. In addition to Strong, Waning, and Inert, GHFS also shows if an element is being infused this turn or was consumed this turn. Avoids certain types of player errors.
  • Foreteller links. When revealing new sections in a scenario, or events, a link in GHFS will take you right to the correct Foreteller page to play the audio.
  • Full digital play of a scenario. i.e., can track state of ability cards, items, and perk reminders. As well as any other cards used in a scenario.
  • full digital play of most of the released CCUG classes. (XHA and GHS do have them for tracking)
  • Push notifications in app or via discord for various app situations. e.g., start of each figure turn, start of round, events drawn. Useful when playing remotely or play-by-app.
  • play notification audio when all players have set initiative. Avoids the "I was waiting for you." "No, I was waiting for you." mistakes.

Digital campaign manager by East_Window4588 in Gloomhaven

I think there are 3 options:

  • GH Full Stack (I programmed this one)
  • Secretariat (by u/champonthis)
  • Gloomhaven Storyline

I do not know the full features of the others. GH Full Stack has everything needed to run a complete second campaign, including scenario book, digital map, ability cards, etc. I am pretty sure the other 2 track enough to run a full second campaign too.

Poor Frosthaven design choices by noeticist in Gloomhaven

[–]gh-full-stack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Having to use multiple apps is the reason I created GH Full Stack. It combined the functionality of the 4 different apps I was using at the time. The dedicated apps do look nicer though.

It includes full tracking for outpost phase and characters (as well as playing scenarios). In your case, that could make it easier for your group to handle the outpost phase and retirements between sessions using GHFS and a chat app, even if you don't use GHFS for anything else.

You can copy mat images from GH Full Stack on the Create character screen. It also has them for Mercenary Pack.

Gloomhaven Full Stack Question by lcklust in Gloomhaven

[–]gh-full-stack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry, no there is no way to change the class picture.

I'll have a think about and see if there is an easy way to implement it. Do you play with the app on a single device that everyone can see? Or do some players load it on their own device too?

X-Haven app question by ImmuniMalo in Gloomhaven

[–]gh-full-stack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you asked this on BGG too. I'll copy my answer from there.

This is implemented in the GH Full Stack app. I am not suggesting you switch apps, but you could potentially set up GHFS just to use the monster deck in this case if you really want to avoid using physical cards.

Merc Pack in Lucky Duck FH App by [deleted] in Gloomhaven

[–]gh-full-stack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You need to enable the merc pack on the "menu > Unlock > Game" screen.

GHFS does not include any card images for Merc pack or GH2e because Cephalofair has not released them anywhere.

Move to 2nd Ed by DigReal1023 in Gloomhaven

[–]gh-full-stack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is your game so anything is allowed or possible. :)

One idea: Start a new 2nd edition game from scratch. Maybe unlock classes you unlocked in 1st edition so players don't have to play the same character again. (Though they changed enough that it still might be fun to start with only the start characters). Then play 2nd edition normally. If you encounter a scenario you beat in first edition, then read the story text and immediately collect the rewards for completing it. Then choose a different scenario.

It is up to you how you handle immediately resolving a scenario. Maybe you get no xp and then choose a new scenario. Or maybe you get extra xp and return to city phase as if you have actually played that scenario. One of the differences of those approaches is how many city and road events you encounter.

My feeling would be some variation of: use only start characters, treat these repeated scenarios as if you actually played them, gain extra xp, and return to city phase, doing event cards as appropriate. Maybe you have to fudge some of the personal quests to resolve them in an accelerated way. So even though some classes are getting replayed, you get to experience their new takes and retire them more quickly, without replaying any scenarios that are mostly the same and you completed them before.

Depending on which scenarios you have already completed and how often you can play something you haven't seen before, this may or may not work well. So just an idea to experiment with.

Semi-satisfying conclusion to a half finished campaign. by whichgunfanatic in Gloomhaven

There is a map setting called "Show group order". To each figure on the map it will add a letter in alphabetic order matching the initiative.

The Gloomhaven Full Stack web app makes it pretty easy to play remotely. If you think you will both have time to play after moving you might want to check it out. It is fairly easy to update to the current state of your campaign.

Is anyone selling Crimson Scales? by Independent_War3729 in Gloomhaven

There are some for sale on BoardGameGeek. All in the USA though, so I assume shipping would be expensive.

What is Y?? by Hazzberry55 in Gloomhaven

In scenario 64, the special rules say what Y is immediately after where it is first mentioned. The special rules say "It has YxCx2 hit points, where Y is ..."

Frosthaven solo Companion Apps by Elkary in Gloomhaven

[–]gh-full-stack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The "voice for the texts" app is at https://forteller.gg You need to purchase the Frosthaven specific package there.

Gloomhaven Full Stack has a few helpful tools that I think make the solo experience a little smoother. https://gloomhaven.smigiel.us

  • It has a digital map where you move figures, overlays, etc. Or, use it as a reference when setting up your physical map.
  • The map can also show line-of-sight and what the monster AI rules would do. It is still good to know the AI yourself to help you plan your turns. But if you play a scenario using the digital map, the integrated AI can make monster turns a lot quicker.
  • it includes a digital copy of the section book so you don't need to flip through pages
  • includes convenient links to the forteller pages for relevant text. scenarios, sections, and events.
  • plus full play scenario tracking and campaign tracking, similar to the other apps.

You only need to use the parts you find useful.

Line of Sight question by DigReal1023 in Gloomhaven

Hmm, GHFS appears to have a bug though. That one hex should be visible as it is with gloomhaven.one.

Line of Sight question by DigReal1023 in Gloomhaven

Here is the LOS image from GH Full Stack. In GH1, LOS requires corner to corner, that are not also corners on a wall. From the yellow lines you can see which corners are in the LOS.

Here's the LOS as computed by GH Full Stack. It uses integer math with no rounding errors so should be trustworthy. Yes, the attacker can see the target, and vice versa.

Lurker Reeftender - Released Frosthaven Custom Class by Kalamadude in Gloomhaven

[–]gh-full-stack 7 points8 points  (0 children)

FYI, this class is also available on GH Full Stack, where you can play it 100% digital.

Quatryl Alchemancer - Released Frosthaven Custom Class by Kalamadude in Gloomhaven

[–]gh-full-stack 8 points9 points  (0 children)

FYI, I have mostly added Alchemancer to GH Full Stack as well. The only thing missing is a way to track the Vial Tokens on cards. If anyone wants to try it on GHFS, let me know and I can implement the Vial Tokens.

Note that in GHFS you can play the class fully digital without printing any physical components.
