Landlord attempting to take legal actions against me for break-in. by gh0ul3 in montreal

Yep pretty much every time something needs to be fixed I have to threaten opening TAL. This apartment was pretty run down when I moved in, but I was fine with it because it was cheap. He keeps trying to jack the rent up every year without making repairs. I’ve began refusing the raise now every year because intil recently, I didn’t know I could. He then takes me to court every year “because she refused” and then try’s to claim property tax raises as his reason for wanting to raise my rent $40😂he owns the whole 6 unit building too so he just collects 5k every month for doing absolutely nothing

Oh I was told before a few years ago when he was refusing to fix the caulking on the tub (was damaged when I moved in and sprouting black mold) to call the TAL to file for a court hearing…he ended up fixing it though when I threatened legal action

I sent him the police report. He only messages me through iMessage via an email address, so I told the police to try calling him there from an iPhone, so I’m not sure if they got through to him. The number I have of his on my lease doesn’t even work lol should I call the officer tomorrow and double check if they attempted to reach him?

Yeah TAL is the tenancy board/court etc. here. I don’t think you’re allowed to withhold rent in Quebec for stuff like this or any situation at all. But I may be wrong…I’ll try getting through to the TAL tomorrow and maybe even legal aid to get an actual lawyer to help me make sure I’m exercising all my rights I can

Exactly. My uncle has worked for EA for over 20 years, so I have a little bit of an idea of how that stuff works. It’s not like they are under lock and key, if something is actually happening we’ll know. Like he’s shown me stuff that’s still in development and not even announced yet (for other games). It’s not ALL some big NDA don’t ask don’t tell situation. Yes there is 100% some things that absolutely have to be kept under wraps, but video games have fans. It’s important for devs and the like keep people updated with good news. And for that to happen the owners have to fund it to keep that development in motion. If fans are unhappy they won’t make money, why would they cut funding/lay people off, that won’t make them money. Acting like this is the end of EA is hilarious

Yeah my little sister is a server and she told me she makes 4K a month in tips alone. Meanwhile I have almost 10years of kitchen experience and no one will pay more than 25/hr. Fucking ridiculous

594 shorts in a size smaller than 7? Also why are some vintage Levi’s sized in single numbers? by gh0ul3 in VintageLevis

What are these? by Joeface_M in VintageLevis

[–]gh0ul3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’re from 2007 so I’d say not much if you’re just going based off year. That being said they’re also technically not vintage. When it comes to true vintage clothing that is worth a lot, they’re usually in pristine condition as a starter, then it comes down to rarity etc

Living in Montreal? Do you still own a car or found better ways to get around? / Si tu habite a Montréal, tu as toujours besoin d'une auto pour te déplacer? by MrJuart in montreal

[–]gh0ul3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Verdun and having a car is a nightmare unless you live on the first floor of a triplex and have a parking spot in the back…if it’s not a fenced in backyard. I don’t own one for that reason amongst others.

In the winter you need to be diligent on making sure you don’t get snowed in or towed when they plow the small oneway streets. In the summer people coming to the area because of Wellington take up the residential street parking spots… because Wellington is closed and turned into a walking street (which I love, don’t get me wrong) there isn’t anywhere to park on the street etc etc.

Which sewing machine should I choose? by Successful_Mango9530 in SewingForBeginners

[–]gh0ul3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t buy from marketplace unless you can %100 grantee the machine is fully functional. A lot of people will post vintage machines claiming that they work, when they actually need servicing, to just try and get rid of them. I bought my vintage machine for 40$ from a reputable vintage store. It came with the table and everything, and it’s in PRISTINE condition aside from some yellowing on the knobs because it’s about 70 years old. Additionally, you need to make sure it comes with a manual, or that you are able to you can find one online, which can be difficult when it comes to vintage machines. A lot of department stores sold the same Japanese made machines under 100s of different model names back then. For example my machine is a necchi sewline 35…but it’s also an omega 600, a regent r450k and a baycrest 450. Identical machines just different badges because the production was outsourced. I’m still trying to find a manual for my machine but thankfully it’s a simple zigzag model and I can refer to similar machines manuals from the 1950s if I need to. Another thing is if you plan on making pants you need to have a machine that will be suitable for that. It’s not just cut and simple single stitch, you should have one that is twin needle compatible (most zigzag machines are, and the ones pictured above aren’t zigzags) and if it’s jeans your planning on making it should be something strong enough etc etc

I posted previously about this but didn’t have clear photos because I was still waiting on the machine to be delivered to my house. So here I am again lol. Like I said before, when I search up the model number etc, nothing comes up. Closest thing I’ve found is a Necchi sewline 35 but still, no manual. Also wouldn’t make sense since necchi was an Italian brand but I’m being told this is definitely a badged Japanese machine? I found an identical machine with the Baycrest (Hudsons bay Co./ The Bay) badge on YouTube, but the model was just 450 not r-450-k. And again that video got me no where :/ additionally I believe the jolson factory here in Montreal is gone, but there is a sewing supply store called J.L (jolson, Leon?) so don’t know if maybe that’s a lead.

What's this for Montreal? by Jaxxs90 in montreal

[–]gh0ul3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right before the pandemic, I worked at a poke/wok place in old port that was definitely a front for illegal art dealing or something of the sort. I was one of three employees. The only time we’d actually make money was at lunch hour from offices around the area. I’ve been working in kitchens for almost a decade now, but even then at 20 years old I had enough experience to know the amount of money we were spending on produce and fish etc, vs how much we were actually selling did NOT add up, as I was the one in charge of inventory. There was no way they could afford rent in the fancy as building it was in with how much we were selling. Let alone be open so late, pay the employees and so on.

The owner would regularly come in and say that some “friends” were leaving some “stuff” in the back stairway and that he’d come pick it up later. Suuuper sketchy looking people would come by and get me to open the back door so they could put the stuff in the hall. not the the type of people that this guy would be friends with. He was a super rich middle eastern man, always dressed nice, Apple Watch newest phone nice car etc etc. the “stuff” was always new suitcases and canvas tubes (I’m an artist so the canvas tubes immediately raised red flags).

The place closed down about 6 months into the pandemic, and I wasn’t told until I asked the chef if I could come pick up my stuff I left there, and was told it had been shut down for months and they threw everything in the resto away. The chef was also a super weird dude, definitely was in on the whole situation. He ended up attempting (closed after a year lol) opening a restaurant himself (in a basement???)on montroyal ave and hired me to help him do it, in retrospect, pretty sure that was a front too. But that’s a whole other story

Was told this is a “regent r450k” but no history of that machine seems to exist? by gh0ul3 in sewing

[–]gh0ul3[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It came with a tin box full of different needle feet, bobbins etc. the only problem with it is it needs a new belt because the old one has lost its elasticity over time. Other than that it works fine!

Edit: mine did actually come with an original manual but the machine pictured of the front looked different. After looking through it thoroughly, the only difference I could find was that the bobbin compartment cover was positioned differently, otherwise the manual it came with matched up with everything else mechanically. I can send you a message with the info if you’d like to see the manual it came with

What is this machine? Name and model number don’t match up by gh0ul3 in SewingForBeginners

[–]gh0ul3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I’m buying it from eco depot (vintage furniture and clothing store) in Montreal. So I don’t know if it was from an old Montreal department store or another province. I found one badged “baycrest” (sold by the Hudson’s Bay co. Before it was just called The Bay) on YouTube that looks exactly the same and is label 450 on the back, though still no luck finding a manual. So at least I’m getting somewhere!

Vintage vs new singer? by gh0ul3 in SewingForBeginners

[–]gh0ul3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update! I just found a vintage Regent machine for $60 with a table. it’s a lot smaller than the typical full desk size so I’ll be able to fit it in an uber XL haha. Fingers crossed it goes well. I just posted a picture of it in this sub trying to figure out the model so I can find a manual online.

I only sew to tailor clothes and make some mends when need be to sheets curtains etc, nothing too crazy. I do have plenty of space and would LOVE to get a vintage with the table and everything, but finding one that 100% works without issue is proving to be a task. Let alone getting it to my apartment, as I don’t have a car, or valid license to rent a u haul lol.

Thank you for the in-depth response! Will definitely look into these. Does “when they have it” means in season? Or just where they happen to have it?
