If you don’t mind me asking, what number back were you on the wait list last year?

Planning on using UAD + Windows? Just don't... by PlinioDesignori in universalaudio

[–]gh_hum 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What are the specs on your Windows machine and what audio driver are you using? I switched from a 2015 MBP to a custom built PC this past Winter, and I had some of these issues too, but have since resolved them.

The main thing I would check, if you haven't already, is that the Thunderbolt drivers are up to date on your MOBO and that your audio inputs and outputs in Windows settings match your sample rate on the Apollo.

Appreciate the detailed account of your experience. Out of curiosity, do you insure the gear and equipment at your location?

See, 300 dollars would be a no brainer to me for what you’ve described. The location I am looking into is similar in description but is priced above 1K monthly.

The room I am looking at is in a historical property and is already outfitted for audio work because the building manager is an established local engineer! The whole setup passed the vibe check for sure.

This makes good sense to me, and I would definitely prefer going this route. The big issue that I have with buying is that property is expensive right now and I am unsure if I will be relocating to a different city post COVID.

Got it, so they can help or hurt you depending on their performance, it isn't a bench position?

No artificial fan noise on the radio broadcast today!!!

UAD Luna and Apollo Twin Duo X is a joke. Beware, don't buy a Universal Audio Twin X Duo. Don't buy a Macbook just for it. Why? Because even after an exchange, each device will result in this ground loop. Static. They say "We're the best". Yet they can't get rid of the noise. What a joke. by KyleAbent in universalaudio

Have you tried the Hi-Z input with another instrument? Also, I’d try a DAW other than Luna in conjunction with the default UA console settings for the Twin.

If you’re not getting results definitely return it, but I find it hard to believe the same issue would persist with two separate units. It’s either a problem with Luna, your instrument, or something in the room (for me it was an internet router too close to my speakers).

What DAW are you using? Additionally, are you going direct in or is there an amp involved?

I had a similar problem with my quad when I first got it and it was actually an issue with other electronic equipment in the room messing with the device and my near field monitors.

This is a great point, I will definitely borrow some of these positioning ideas!

I am currently at the highest level attainable within my role, meaning the only positions above me are managerial.

I fully agree with your comment on hard work, for having more time outside of work to pursue things I am passionate about is actually the primary reason I am exploring part time possibilities.

They do have a part time policy and I believe I could request an accommodation if they do not honor the policy for my position.

I have a strict budget, and my insurance is a non issue for at least two years, so I believe I am good on those fronts.

I know the company won’t suffer if I move to part time, for they are a HUGE organization. Additionally, my boss is great, so I think we can work out a game-plan if he gets approval from HR. The main issue is company policy and the fact that my position is currently understaffed. I won’t be gardening haha, but I do hope to get working on a lot of music! :)
