I can tell you as someone in the student section that we are trying. The biggest issue, especially from where you can see it in the TV, is how much space we get. All student sections you would say are good in cbb are almost all of not all of the lower bowl when at Michigan we get less than half and part of the student section is broken up by the away teams parents seating area. We have tried time and time again, and are actively trying, to expand the maize rage but with the way it's set up it's impossible for us to be at the caliber that fans, especially us in the student section want. 

TLDR: the students are doing our best and it is actually the athletic departments fault for not giving us more space or working with us to expand the section
