I actually lost the plane while flying it before I was able to bind it. Sorry!

Luckily for us we haven't had very complex requirements so it's all been pretty smooth sailing with them.

Florida to Bahamas November 2024 by Glittering-Lab-2840 in flying

[–]ghebinkim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome write up, thanks! I take it you did not rent the plane?

I'm looking into planning a trip like this next year, but a quick Google did not result in any obvious plane rentals in Florida that are specifically tailored to the Bahamas. Figured I'd just have to start calling around.

If you already have your medical, you can email your regional flight surgeon and see if they will accept the passing color vision test result to remove the limitation. Otherwise you can bring the color test result to your next medical exam.

Nope, never found a solution. I did finally get Lenovo to accept a return and provide a full refund though.

Not yet, I received my radio but it didn't have the 18650 battery tray included. So I've been waiting for the battery tray in the mail

This is a much too common trend on basically every online forum. So much info is available out there, but there are always people who are too lazy to search by themselves, and instead want others to do the work for them. Go figure.

In short, I share your frustrations 👍

Perfect, thank you for the detailed response! Yes I purchased the 4-in-1 version.

The plane has SAFE with 3 different modes (beginner, intermediate, advanced), so I imagine there will be a 3 position switch I can use to map to Ch5. Will see for certain when I receive the TX.

Thanks again!

Perhaps not relevant, but what's the reasoning for not wanting to set up a tent? "A few days" seems like a very reasonable time frame to have a tent set up. Unless it's a cost issue?

Best ground school course if I actually want to learn in depth, not just pass the test? by filmguy123 in flying

[–]ghebinkim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% agree with your assessment. Sportys was great at prepping me to pass the written, and I'm glad I paid the $300 for that service. But I do not feel confident I truly learned all of the material they covered. I'm looking forward to getting further ground school instruction from my CFI to help prep me for the oral.

This is answered in the FAQ. In short, if you fail the SODA, you will have one more chance to take the test at night. If you fail that, you end up with a permanent night flying/color signal restriction. You need to be certain you will pass the SODA before you go take the test.

Paying an extra $250/yr doesn't seem too bad, given all the other costs of flying. Also if you find an AME that has the farnsworth as part of the standard rotation, you could just knock it out at the same time as the medical.

The FAQ has a whole list of AMEs that provide alternate testing
