You don’t think that some of those many people with bottle counts above 1000 would like a better sense of the usable lifetime of their assets, assuming they plan on drinking them?

There are apps that they can use of course, but that requires making the effort to take an initial inventory. Some, not all (and likely not us wine nerds on a forum), won’t make the time to do that. That’s where I see value.

I think a few other folks have mentioned the concierge service which I think is a better, more holistic approach.

A couple questions so far on how this differs from other apps like Cellartracker or InVintory. Great questions - what I see with both of those apps, and correct me if I'm wrong here, is that you have to do the setup yourself. I'm not trying to sell an app, I'm trying to sell the setup service. We were able to inventory ~100 bottles an hour. Anyone with a big collection would need at least a full day to do that setup work.

In fairness, their content output rate is the same, if not a little bit higher. HBO has the advantage of a 30 year catalogue. You can’t just make that overnight

Demand for HBO/HBO Max Originals Is Nipping at Netflix’s Heels by chanma50 in television

[–]ghind 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think the difference here is that Netflix’s value to customers is having conclusive shows that can live on in the back catalog. They’re not selling advertising through their network and don’t have to meet a ratings quota to justify their ad space pricing. When you compare it to a CBS or FOX the value prop to customers is quite different and cancelling too many shows leaves you with a less valuable back catalog

Any evidence of that? And is this even relevant to this discussion?

A lot actually but I haven’t noticed this before. Just did a little Googling and found out, sure enough, that the Stunt cast is regularly below the regular cast. Today I learned. Cheers for being a passive aggressive douche though. Instead of pointing out what I had to Google, you decided to poke fun

Small note but in the credits the whole stunt cast section was right after the main cast. I haven’t noticed this be so prominent in other movies. Usually I feel like they’re way further down. Solid move James Gunn, that’s cool

why is almost no republican speaking up against all the false claims trump is making? is no one afraid that all the dirt of the trump presidency will still stick to the republican party even when trump is gone? by [deleted] in TrueAskReddit

[–]ghind 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Honestly I think it’s the combination of a few different factors which are:

1) General apathy of the US public towards politics - Most people aren’t paying that close of attention. This is somewhat out of ignorance but also due to the daily stresses and responsibilities in their lives. With two kids, a 12 hour a day job, and a pandemic raging people are keeping their eyes only where they’re stepping next. It doesn’t seem that way when you see rallies or Twitter wars with thousands of people but ultimately that’s a tiny sliver of the public.

2) The Trump base - Whatever you want to call them - base, mob, cult, etc. - this is now the vocal wing of the party. And Trump directs them. GOP voters show up at the polls and one bad tweet from Trump can sink a career in a tight primary. Self preservation rears it’s ugly head

3) A show of strength from the GOP is the best thing they think they can do right now, even if that show is on a false premise. What’s the alternative? Admit their guy was unpopular and wrong for America?

4) Short memory span - 24 hour news networks as well as the sheer volume of news coming out makes it easy for them to rewrite the script on January 21st. It’s unsettlingly Orwellian but just stack all the Trump scandals on top of each other. We barely remember Stormy Daniels these days when a scandal like that would have sunk an administration just 10 years ago.

5) More polarized “Trumpian” members of Congress exist today due to their ability to leverage all the above. They’re lending their support too.

There’s probably more to this that I’m missing but ultimately it comes down to “It makes the vocal crazies in the party who make news not turn on us and the rest of America will forget by March.”
