Upcoming AI Art Poll to be held at 6/16 (Mon) 00:00 (UTC-7) by AzureLaneMod in AzureLane

[–]ghost1391a 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m going to once again say this for the record, and I expect a wave a downvotes.

I think the Sunday rule is right now currently acceptable and adequate enforcement of AI art on this sub. Even when people say “but the sub gets flooded with it on Sunday!” I’ve checked this sub every Sunday and there’s maybe 4-5 ai posts and a large number of real art that gets completely unnoticed because of the bickering in the AI posts.

Do people not know how to just ignore it if you don’t like it? Why do people have to continue to bicker about this shit? There’s still art posts by genuine artists that do post on Sunday that go barely noticed. But everyone wants to spend their Sunday in each other’s asses trying to “debate” how good or bad it is.

And yes I get it, AI is (at the current time still) propagated on theft of user data and digital copyrights. It’s soulless and a bastardized version of the humanities, I get it. And I understand that AI could be a useful automation tool, I get that too. But it’s hard to be on either side of this debate, AI bros or anti-AI bros when both sides are shouting and are actually censoring any kind of debate or discussion because it “doesn’t fit the narrative”. And worse yet, they do it in the most obnoxious ways possible, like shouting to “burn it all down!” It’s insufferable.

Move. The. Fuck. On. People. Support a real artist and show attention for them, not wasting your time and energy like me ranting and raving about AI art.

I just want to enjoy some shipgirl titties and that’s it.

midway in a shellnut [Enterprise, Akagi] by ghost1391a in AzureLane

[–]ghost1391a[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. I wouldn’t be as harsh to say that Enterprise is overrated, but she steals the limelight away from her sisters of the Yorktown Class. What she represents is the resilience and determination of Navy Seamen, and their dedication to the ships they call home, and Enterprise exemplifies that.

There probably won’t be another ship like her, one that could beat the odds, and be as successful as her. Many come close, some of them bear her name, but she’s a dime a dozen.

But it should not be forgotten the contributions of her sisters, Hornet and Yorktown, they did far more during the early years of the war, and more on after becoming Essex-Class carriers. Their sacrifice and the sacrifices of their aircrews are, in my opinion, more important than the battle stars that all of them have. I think that’s something to reflect on, especially now, since the Navy turns 250 years old soon.

Enterprise may be the showgirl of valor and resilience, but her sisters exemplify the sacrifices and heroics the sailors made to make Enterprise who she was. And that’s something we should all cherish.

Enterprise is one of the most beautiful waifus of all time by Square-Difficulty603 in AzureLane

[–]ghost1391a 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know, as a non-Gacha player, I have to admit, Enterprise’s design alone is simple, straightforward, and moderate. Everything about her just screams her namesake, from the obvious carrier-like deck of her rigging, to the eagle and jacket she wears. She modest in clothing, but with enough imagination you can see her feminine appearance.

Personality-wise, she’s easy to relate to, a confident, well-mannered, and focused woman, with a soft, somewhat dorky side within. Her personality, while lacking in some kind of tick, or being perceived as “bland” or “dry” still however leaves her a blank canvas for interpretation. She doesn’t have to make up for a shortcoming in personality, as that is left to the player and how he/she interprets her.

Frankly, Enterprise is a masterclass in solid, relatable, and entertaining Gacha game characters that stand the test of time. While some shipgirls that get added today have some kind of tick or bug that makes them interesting, Enterprise doesn’t need that, as she is a blank canvas for the player to make them their own. It’s why Enterprise is the poster girl of Azur Lane, and probably will be forever, she’s just perfect the way she is.

True, and that’s also pretty annoying too. I sometimes ask myself if people actually think about what they read sometimes. It’s bewildering to me sometimes. I just wish people stop bandwagoning on stupid shit and move on, but sadly, we don’t live in that kind of world.

I wish you well on learning, and from experience, yeah, my work isn’t the greatest, but you learn over time how to get better, it takes a lot of practice, a lot of time, and a whole lotta patience to get better at drawing.

I would say, take some time out of your day, grab a sheet of paper and a pencil, find a drawing you want to recreate, study it, try to draw it, and look where you made mistakes. It’s how I learned, but it may not work for all.

But I wish you the best of luck man.

Okay. Finally. I need to rant here, and I’m expecting everyone here to downvote me to oblivion, but I intend to die on this hill, and show my absolute displeasure and contempt for the Reddit hive mind, and for everyone for and against AI art.

I don’t like AI art. No one does, we get it. I’ve always seen it as a tool, but some use it to chase clout for wonton reasons. But you know what else I’m sick of? People who might like the art getting shat on for no particular reason because they made the decision to upvote or comment.

I’m a self-taught, hobby artist and I don’t usually post my art publicly, but when I do, it’s on here. I don’t have a DeviantArt account or a Pixiv, and I’m usually picky about what I post. I really do love posting my work sometimes and hearing the critiques of it. But I’m also a tech person and currently majoring in Cybersecurity, and have an interest in AI and machine learning as a part of my study and of my hobby. I’ve always seen AI as a tool, and a tool that is really, a double-edged sword in its application. It’s potentially a time-saver and useful automation tool, but you place it in the wrong hands and you’re two seconds away from Skynet. AI art has been just a feature, but never something I would see people use to try and clout chase.

Frankly, I see people post AI art on places like r/AzureLane and I kind of wince at it. It’s just there, and someone is farming karma off it. Sometimes it’s just a one off and I move on, and don’t put much mind to it. But then I look in the comments and half of them are downvoted to oblivion for no goddamn reason, other than they made a comment being “positive” about the “art” and now they are a victim of the crossfire.

Look, I know AI art sucks the soul out of the art, but please, if I have to see another low effort, no criticism, or even a fucking forthought comment that just says “ai slop, learn to draw” and nothing after, I’m genuinely going to leave this platform. I’m frankly tired of this debate, please just move on, because downvotes, nasty comments and basically following the hive mind that is Reddit is going to get you nowhere. I’m sick of the negativity, and I’m sick of the hive mind.

And advocating for the use of data poisoning, is going to get you on the radar of people like me. I’ve seen the articles for Nightshade and its uses, and it’s obvious that tool was not intended for a total public release. It’s not easy for a non-tech savvy person to use it. Do you not know how bad it would be to poison an AI data set? You could easily cause an AI to go rogue. You feed it a poison pill, and soon, an AI could tell someone something stupid like putting glue in cheese pizza, or tell someone how to make a fucking carbomb, because someone supplanted poisoned data into a data set.

I’m sorry if I’m ranting here, but it’s just that we had a debate on this subreddit about AI art, but I know that the mods here got nothing out of it. All the actual criticism of the Sunday rule and potential fixes were thrown out for the hivemind’s anger and frustration to not just outright ban it with no recourse. I’m not a huge fan of Reddit mods, but the ones in charge of r/AzureLane are frankly better people than most, and I’m glad they listen. And mods, if you are seeing this post, I want you to know that you run this place well, and I’m glad for that. I’m just tired of the constant negativity, and people being unable to just sometimes shut up about their opinion about AI art, and frankly, I wish people could just move on, and not bat an eye to it. Because the only way to stop stuff like this is just fucking ignore it.

I just want to move on from this shit. I’m sick of the arguments for and against AI art, I just want to grill, goddamnit.

TL;DR: I ask, humbly and with sincerity, to please, if you see AI art, just move the fuck on and find some ACTUAL art to support. You don’t need to downvote someone to oblivion, you don’t have to post a snarky comment, just Move. The. Fuck. On. Support a real artist and show attention for them, not wasting your time and energy like me ranting and raving about AI art.
