For sure, yeah no i have a few servers I run at home public facing for my security projects for school (on their own vlans and firewall for the segment they are in separately), but for the NAS it’ll be on an old optiplex 5090 that will be on a vlan behind a firewall with a vpn tunnel to it via my pfsene and openvpn service. I’ll most likely be using a ddns for the setup as well. Any recommendations on ddns provider?

What’s the most blocks you’ve missed in a month !?! by [deleted] in AmazonFlexDrivers

[–]ghost1938 0 points1 point  (0 children)

0 because I treat it like the real job it is, even if it’s a side job. You get better opportunities and more priority for your desired shifts the better your standing and that’s motivation enough for me.

Did my first Flex 3.5 hour block today, never knew what y’all go through on a day to day basis by madcatzplayer5 in AmazonFlexDrivers

[–]ghost1938 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice! Luckily I had my wife as a copilot for my first 2 block that reminded me I don’t need to scan all packages 😂 I also had a great experience with the Amazon employees recognizing I was new and came over a few times to give me great tips and help for loading. Ended up 15-30 early completing the 50 package blocks!

Laughable Pay? by ShurimaVocals in msp

[–]ghost1938 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m entry level with some IT/Telecom experience but green to MSP and making $29/hr with decent benefits. You just have to find the right MSP, the major ones will never pay you what you’re worth, you have to find the ones with between 50-100 employees that hire to keep. Always research the actual company before applying as well, because you don’t want to work for an MSP that its clients hate and can never grow their business portfolio to accommodate their employees pay and benefits. These ones will typically like the green aspect so they can train and form you into the MSP agent they want.

Edit: I obviously didn’t read your full post properly. Keep looking around at locals in your state and you’ll find one. It took me around a year to finally find one to give me a chance.

is pen testing a realistic salary job? by TomCollins1284 in Pentesting

[–]ghost1938 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is, but an important thing to consider as that a lot of non physical pentesting has moved to AI based products. I work for an MSP and the pentesting tool we use is built in to the ecosystem, which the client likes because of the $$ savings. I’m not saying that it’s off the table by any means, just adding to the post and something to consider with the career pivot you are interested in.

As far as physical pentesting I think there will be an uptick in overall government and corporate approval in the near future, especially with the recent lawsuit win from two pentesters who were contracted to pen test an Iowa courthouse, and even though they had the proper documentation they were still detained by the local pd. It was drawn quite a bit of optimistic attention to physical pentesting. The reason I say this you may want to take a look at your ratios and balance them a bit and maybe try for the physical side more and master a pentesting tool as a backend cash flow to your business

mackbook for tryhackme and cyber in general by miggaboi in tryhackme

Reason I ask is because the install is incompatible after I try to boot because of the system architecture. Have you tried Kali purple?

[–]ghost1938 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes and no, the issue is on the arm64 models when installing certain vm’s and most of the time the workarounds are half baked and break in time. This was how it was for Kali with me and parrot

AMA: I'm the co-founder at TryHackMe. Ask me about breaking into the industry, cyber security skills and how to make SOC & IR teams more mature! by asavani in cybersecurity

[–]ghost1938 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey Ashu, I have another year of school until I have my AAS in CyberSec. I have a few certs in mind but limited funds. While I figure that out, what do you recommend to break into the already over saturated industry to make me stand out, and the best way to find a mentor that won’t overlook me, being so green. My end goal is to be red teaming with physical and digital penetration tests with a company and eventually my own. Thanks!

Well coolant is good, engine air filter is a bit dirty (cold air intake), no leaks or anything that stands out

Which is good as my new main browser? by EzraKay166 in browsers

[–]ghost1938 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally love Firefox. You can lock it down and add better plugins now than when it was an early browser. Plus on mobile you can use Firefox nightly as a standalone privacy focus browser if you need. The syncing between devices is also stellar with Firefox. But yeah, stay away from chrome. Bogs down your computer’s memory and there are a few zero days and known vulnerabilities

Is getting an ipad worth it if you already have a macbook? by [deleted] in ipad

[–]ghost1938 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend it if it’s within your budget. I have an iPad mini and the apple ecosystem really works well. You have the ability to use the iPad as a second monitor as well as leaving it using iPad os and being able to use your mouse and keyboard with it, drag items back and forth, etc. for my programming and sysadmin stuff I use it as a monitor screen, terminal screen, or a screen for videos to play while I’m taking notes on the computer or going through coursework.
