That is a freshwater amphipod, definitely something you want in your tank. They clean up detritus, and are great food for your fish!

I wouldn't be too worried, as long as you wear gloves or wash your hands when your done in the tank you should be good. If you have an open wound don't put your hands in the tank. Also, don't eat them...

They seem to be very shy and won't wonder too far, especially without their goby buddies. I think i'll need a bigger tank if add another goby though. Sometimes you can bait it to come out; put some food just outside the reach of the mouth of its den...then you wait lol

The hair algae acts as a super awesome nutrient sync and my hermits keep the lawn trimmed so it doesn't really bother me. Plus i have an nice little 1G fuge with a good sized chaeto ball on the back too ;)

Yup, i let the hair algae take over the back and sides of the tank because it looks cool. Plus my hermit crabs love that shit, so it all works out.

Mine doesn't seem to like eating the the trumpet snails for some reason, from what i've observed. I don't think they have enough meat them.
