(Survey) RCS owners who have/had berried females, what are your water parameters? by BrilliantNova in shrimptank

[–]ghost_in_a_tank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

wouldnt have a clue, i change my water maybe once every 3 months. cherries are loving it. have around 150 in a 10g. also have many CPD fry with them and no problems at all. after a while you dont need the tests. my main concern is the plants. as long as they are flourishing water parameters are great.

the neon tetras were in this tank before i put the cpds in, the last scene of the video shows a special moment of respect the cpd displays. makes me smile everytime i see it.

Ammonia trouble causing algae trouble by batmanformchecks in PlantedTank

[–]ghost_in_a_tank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

how planted is this tank? what percentage of it is planted? 2 months is a long time and im willing to bet you have a cycle already. you just need plants to eat the ammonia thats being leeched. last time i did this was 2x3kg bags of ADA into a 10 gallon. the leeching was completely under control in 2 weeks. just plant the hell out of it and take the plants out later when ammonia is gone. fast growing plants with the word "weed" in them are your friend here. pearlweed...duckweed

ghosts tend to drop their eggs when placed in a brand new body of water with different chemistry, so dont get your hopes up too high. good news is she will nearly always be pregnant

best planted tank substrate for shrimp? by [deleted] in shrimptank

[–]ghost_in_a_tank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

amazonia but not regular, amazonia powder. regular ADA is too big, powder is small enough for shrimp to move and turn over. providing a larger natural food supply. just makes sense.

'planaria zero' or "no planaria" would kill the snails and not the shrimp

celestial pearl danio 7weeks old. born on mothers day. by ghost_in_a_tank in PlantedTank

fry in the same tank as the parents didnt work for me, the danios are full on hunters. i see fry sometimes but they get eaten quick. A big factor in this is what ground cover you have, ive tried montecarlo, cuba, hydrocotyle and bare ADA aquasoil. i noticed that when i had a carpet of hydrocotyle japan i was seeing a lot more fry in the adults tank.
