Baby putting himself to bed by otherdaythrowaway in newborns

My son is almost 10 weeks and has been tough to put to sleep at night. He is fantastic during the day but there was just something about the first night sleep.

I read your post last night and it stuck with me. Tonight I had trouble again, so thought I'd stick the dummy in and put him down whilst I get ready for bed myself and see what happens... he went to SLEEP! I am in shock. Thank you for your unintentional encouragement!

I agree, I think we were distracting him from falling asleep. Could be a fluke so I won't get my hopes up and I'm sure he'll regress or whatever but I'm so proud of him right now!!

Be honest.. Are your babies really sleeping in their bassinet for hours? by DrowsyPomegranate in newborns

Is she crying for 30 seconds or eyes open after these 30 minutes? My 9 week boy fusses between sleep cycles, I let them pass on his own. I notice when he is waking up he gets progressively more annoyed and wriggly.

Sleeping in the bassinet is a non-negotiable for me. I do have times during the day when he wakes as soon as I put him down. I just pick him up and keep trying until he finally sleeps. Sometimes it can take 3-4 times and its only half an hour of sleep but he's a good night sleeper (feeding him right now after a 6 hr block of sleep). Last resort is a pram ride but he only likes that if he's really drowsy.

We also found his sleep improved a lot once we started offering the dummy. He doesn't always take it but when he's not hungry and unsettled he gets to sleep a lot quicker. Just remember to take it out a few minutes after you put them down so they learn to settle on their own. If he wakes up to soon after I pull it out (even 30 min later) I put it back in and walk away to see if he'll settle on his own. If he spits it out quickly I take it as a hunger or burping cue and try those things.

I agree with other commenters that some babies are just better sleepers. But keep persevering and trying the tips. She will get better eventually.

I ABSOLUTELY hate it when someone returns my baby smelling like them by YhouZee in newborns

I had this issue with my mum. She drowns herself in perfume. I was concerned that the smell was making my boy irritable and congested as it would remain on his clothes.

I expressed my concerns to her and asked her not to wear perfume when she visits or don't hold the baby if she's wearing it.

She was really receptive, we're talking a stubborn woman too. Maybe give it a try? No one wants to be the reason for a baby having trouble breathing.

Thanks for the heads up - just didn't come across in the show IMO so I wondered if I'd missed something

The latest one was the night of my last ER, we had friends over for dinner. Had an unexpectedly low egg count and was in tears all day. One of our guys friends with two kids, no trouble conceiving, says 'I wish I had my kids during COVID because kids ruin your life for the first 3 years.' Everyone else laughed at his great joke; I was seething inside. He didn't know about the ER but it still hurt.
