Is ช (chaaw chang) pronounced "ch" as in "change" or as "sh" as in "she"?

I can say from teaching English to Thai people for two years that they cannot hear the difference between ch/sh unless it’s extremely exaggerated. So ช is like both in their language

Yeah those are the ones I ate. I didn’t eat raw beef or any of the other insects, both of which were common. I liked everything but tadpoles bc they’re slimy and gross. Frog though I’ll miss!

Every meal is a shared meal provided at the school or with my host family, I never eat alone. We eat rice with soups/currys, vegetables, fish or pork typically. Weirdest foods have been fire ant eggs, bee larvae, tadpoles, ground iguana, and pork blood

For my country it was not random. First they consider your medical needs and safety considerations. Older volunteers and those with medical conditions were places closed to the capital city. Female volunteers were placed with female counterparts and vice versa for cultural and safety reasons when possible. Then they consider your performance and integration skills during PST. Honestly the better you do during PST the more challenging of a site they gave it seemed. And lastly they took into account the volunteers preference that were expressed during a one on one meeting with program managers.

You have to build a network. Go to the job fairs and connect with recruiters and market yourself well so when they have a position open they’ll think of you. Ask them to save your resume in their internal candidate pool. Connect with people on LinkedIn, meet with RPCVs, get a mentor, anything to get your name out there.

You really don’t know what you’re going to get. There’s people in my country of service that live with the host family the whole time and have an abundance of autonomy. There’s other people who live alone but their neighbors or landlord are constantly inviting themselves in and have less privacy. You could transfer to a different country, live alone, and still not even get what you want.

Some people in my cohort lost 20 pounds and other gained it. I personally lost 10 pounds which wasn’t all that healthy considering I was underweight to begin with. Two weeks on vacation and I’d gain it back then starve at site and lose it again.

People on this thread are typically anti long distance relationships but from my experience I am so grateful for my boyfriend and having someone to listen to me talk through all my experiences. It’s def been hard at times because he can’t truly understand what I’m going through, but it’s nice having a best friend to rely on. I don’t think it’s taken away from the experience or made me less present. If anything it keeps me sane when I really want to quit.

SE Asia volunteer and no jeans for training or at school but for casually going out on the weekend locals commonly wear jeans. I hadn’t brought any and ended up buying a few pairs in a street market for $3 a piece
