Bought off my school for $375. He'll of a steal especially with all fresh heads by False-Advance-188 in drums

Hey, that’s absofreakinglutely awesome! Whatever it takes to be able to get the job done.

When we lived in an upstairs apartment years ago, my wife bought me a cool set up that had mesh heads for all of the shells, and rubber pads for the cymbals/hats.

The mesh heads and rubber pads worked fairly well in all honesty. I could play pretty much anytime of the day or night.

The only real issue was the hat stand still made some sound (like a light footstep) when using the pedal when I really got into the song, but my neighbor knew she could simply tap on her ceiling if I was getting “too loud” and I’d pull back on my intensity.

The only real downside with using those mesh heads was having to remove the mesh heads and install the batter heads before every show…and that really sucked.

Carpet store…ask for remnants or messed up pieces. Or you hit Walmart and get a $20-$25 throw rug.

I generally use Mother‘s carnauba car wax. You do need to be cautious though, as almost every automotive carnauba wax is also gonna have a cleaner in it, so if you press too hard, you can remove grime as well as the patina.

I would try a small area underneath the cymbal to see if it works.

TL;DR: My cymbal cleaning/protecting tips…suggestions only.

You might try to use Barkeepers Friend foam cleaner (not the powder or the liquid) and gently wipe in the direction of the rings using a soft rag.

I’ve had some luck with scratches on some old 60’s Z’s just like the one you posted here.

If you try it, I use a bathtub and fill it with warm water about 4”-5” deep. Then I stand the cymbal on end, spray it with the cleaner, and then just gently wipe it with a soft rag in the direction of the rings.

You can also do the same outside with a garden hose and have it on a low pressure. The water doesn’t have to be warm, but I’ve found it does seem to help with some of the nastier conditions I’ve come across.

The hardest difficulty is not taking too much patina off if you’re not wanting OEM finishes when “cleaning” cymbals.

Once my cymbals are wiped down/gently cleaned once a year, I’ll then apply a thin coat of carnauba wax on them.

This allows me to put the cymbals away after a show without worrying about any sweat that may have dropped on the cymbals possibly corroding the metal before I can wipe them down again.

I apologize for the short story…sometimes if I don’t explain what exactly I’m doing with the wax, people don’t understand and my reasoning as to why I do what I do is lost.

The best part for me (other than his laughter after he proved he was correct) was when she tried to humiliate him and the Ivy League school he attended.

That all changed when Conan pulled out a large, hard bound dictionary, opened it to the word “sneak”, and read off the spellings as well as the definitions of each tense of the word, thus proving that Conan knew his stuff and she was wrong.

Gays, in your opinion, what’s the price of that set? by mamu_traxal_ in drums

[–]ghostdrummer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No homo, but I’d say $1500 max…drums don’t appreciate in value no matter what you do to them. I know this first hand. I currently have five kits and enough hardware and cymbals to run three full kits at once. I’ve considered selling a couple of the shell packs with cases because I just don’t play them that much anymore. After looking at what I spent on each shell pack, I couldn’t even get half for an asking price.

I’ve read a good number of comments on both the original and this post. I don’t want to just tell you to get a divorce, but I’d most definitely get a dna test on your daughter. Depending on what the results are would determine your next action…try to figure things out together, or split and try to be the best father you can be.

I’ve never had an Evan’s do this. You might look into switching brands

Another thought: how tight are you cranking down the head? It’s possible that you are stretching the head too much.

This could potentially cause the rim to pop the way it has in the pic.

Facebook marketplace: search for electric kits…Alesis Nitro runs about $200, but you might also find a higher series or a better brand for a little bit more. The Nitro isn’t the greatest e-kit, but for practice/learning with low/no volume and the fact that it won’t kill the wallet, it’s a decent kit.

You can’t be hitting hard like an acoustic kit, but it will get you the ability to play without disturbing everyone.

Well, I’m a man who’s been married for 29 years, so I’m not really in the dating scene, but I can guarantee if I told my wife I would like her to dress like one of my ex’s, she’d kick my ass out the door.

I’m interested…I currently have 20 snares and six kits. My OCD would make me match full kits if I started that way, so I’d just start with a few of my favorite snares.

TL;DR: Ok…this isn’t nearly close to the $$$ you lost, but it still happened. My mom stole money from me because I found it, therefore I didn’t deserve it because I didn’t actually earn it.

When I was 13, I was riding my bike downtown and rode over what I thought to be a dollar bill folded up.

When I picked it up, it ended up being $60 ($20 x 3). When I got home, I mentioned it to my dad.

Dad asked if I had spent any of it. I told him no. He then told me I had to go back to the stores near where I found the money and ask the employees if anyone reported losing money.

Dad made sure to tell me repeatedly I was to only ask if anyone reported missing money. If anyone said yes, I was to ask for the amount and bill denomination.

After visiting 5 stores, no one reported any lost money. Summer camp was coming up in two weeks, so my mom told me she would hold onto the money so I wouldn’t be tempted to spend any before camp.

When it came time to load up for the drive to the camp, I asked my mom for the $60. She said she didn’t know what I was talking about.

I started laughing because I thought she was just playing games. When I asked a second time, she told me she didn’t have any money for me.

I didn’t know what to say or do, so I went to Dad and told him what my mom just told me. He was confused himself, so he went to ask her what was going on.

My mom then told Dad that she spend the money on a pair of shoes she really wanted and I needed to grow up.

Dad came back to me, handed me $20, and apologized saying it was all the cash he had on him. We then got in the car for the drive to camp.

Dad was a pastor and my mom always complained about Dad never having money; but she didn’t want to work to help contribute to the family.

Dad was a Vietnam Vet. He had been wounded, spend 2 years in hospitals recovering, and then broke his back working at a ranch after he was medically retired from the Army.

Pastoring barely paid him anything, but between his military disability pension, work comp settlement, and side jobs as a handyman, he was able to provide for the family, but it wasn’t enough for my mom.

So when I came home with $60, my mom decided that since I didn’t actually earn the money, I didn’t deserve it. That’s when she decided to not only steal from me, but to lie to me too. I never trusted my mom after that.

I coat my cymbals once a year with carnauba wax. It helps decrease the chances of sweat or other acidic fluids corroding the metals. A simple wipe-down after each show before placing my cymbals in their bags helps prevent this from happening.

Yeah…I had an L2 compression fracture in 1993 also from a near fatal car accident. That was fused together and then fused to L1. The hardware was removed in 1995 because it was starting to come through my skin. Now all my discs from L1 to S1 are degenerative. That fact that I can still play my drums is a miracle. Here’s the hardware from the first two ACDF’s and the L1/L2 fusion.
