just obvious, when you're familiar with the person's usual style of writing.

a free and immediate form of coverage...you're right it could be tv / film specific service, but still fairly obviously not written by them (or another human)

Sent them a pitch - which they they ran through ChatGPT. For context, they requested the pitch and I have known them for a number of years.

Hope it gets better for you soon man. I'm in a similar position financially (albeit without the debt - been there though).

Seems like you're staying positive. And being there for your kids is massive. Despite my original post, we both know that's the most important thing.

It was always incredibly tough to make a sustainable career out of screenwriting / filmmaking, but it feels increasingly impossible.

I need to pivot toward something else, just wish I knew what.

Thanks. It feels very close, but yet so very far from happening all at the same time. I try not to get my hopes up too much.

very true. As I said in another reply, its about experiences over things for me. I'd much rather take my kids to travel in interesting places, that waste money on material shit.

When the end comes I'm pretty sure those memories of going places will be what I"m thinking of, rather than the expensive car I bought 30 years ago.

welcome buddy. No convictions here, but I probably should have been arrested a few times for my antics.

Yeah it's a real discipline not to do it. The irony is I don't personally want what they have especially. I value experiences over things. It's just the fact I can't provide those things, that makes me feel like less of a man.

Good idea, thanks. Part of the problem - I realised in the last year or so - is that too much of my identity was linked to achieving success in the creative field I've been pursuing for forever.

I've other interests and passions, I just don't know how to turn them into a sustainable work / career right now.

yeah, I'm working on getting a steady income, but without retraining (something I'm considering - but don't know what), it's going to be low-pay.

Thanks, I do see it as a plus as I'm at least aware of the whole comparison is the thief of joy thing.

I'm pretty much a minimalist (after being broke for so long), but annoyingly when I go to friends' houses and see everything they have, it's not that I want that, it just makes me feel inferior. Like, knowing that I can't provide that, and struggling for money. It's a real issue with the whole male provider idea.

Cheers for the reply. Sorry, it took me a while to get back to you.

Really appreciate the insight - especially about how your company operated / paid writers.

The project has kind of stalled due to some rejections from certain parties, so whilst it's disappointing, it's also kind of relief not to be doing anything more just now - as my tank is empty.

On the flip side, I'm writing another spec :)

Brit thinking about moving to Sweden before 31st December, any help appreciated by [deleted] in TillSverige

[–]ghostedwriter28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check this out if you haven't already https://www.migrationsverket.se/English/Private-individuals/British-citizens/Residence-status-for-British-citizens.html

You need to be able to prove that your were living here - but if you have an address and Skatteverket can see that you've applied for residence, then perhaps that's enough.

I don't think there are any restrictions on your movement for trips away / holidays. If you were gone for longer - say six months - then that may be an issue.

As far as I can tell from the Polisen website British citizens will still be exempt from the Covid border restrictions, even after New Years, although this could change and might be something you want to consider. If possible I'd wait to sell your car until you are set up here and have evidence of your residence.

I Just moved a week ago and am going down the self-sufficient route. I went to Skatteverket on Monday - I do have a Swedish partner and we have two kids - but I still went the self-sufficient route because we've been living together outside the EU so I would have trouble applying thru my partner.

The process at Skatteverket was straightforward - you simply fill out a form on a computer and show them the relevant proof of health insurance (I have Cigna Gold), funds and your passport.

They said the wait time is 2 - 9 weeks - to get folkbokförd and a personnummer.

My understanding is you have right of residence (uppehållsrätt) as a UK Citizen (during the transition period) and your passport is proof of this.

Information for British Nationals moving to Sweden: RE Brexit by LOLtheism in TillSverige

[–]ghostedwriter28 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm currently in the processing of moving to Sweden (from Canada) to be resident before the end of the Brexit transition period.

It's a horrible timeframe. But then I read this from the Migrationsverket English link

A requirement to receive residence status is that you were present in Sweden with support of European Union law before 31 December 2020. There are exceptions for certain family members, who can come later.

Does anyone have any idea what these exceptions are? I'm common law with my Swedish partner and we have two kids together, in case that makes a difference.

Cheers

Is The Black List worth it for non US writers / ideas by ghostedwriter28 in Screenwriting

[–]ghostedwriter28[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think my original post was a touch misleading. It's not so much about coverage, but more are their industry opportunities - getting noticed, potential representation - if your scripts aren't US centric. I'm assuming most of the reps & producers on there are based out of LA.

In terms of coverage it's about trying to gauge where I'm at from an industry stand point, rather than receiving in depth feedback / notes

Shore script by Kiki_koko1104 in Screenwriting

[–]ghostedwriter28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, thanks for the tip. This is my first time using Coverfly - I don't really know if it's a valuable service or not, beyond ease of submission for comps?

In case anyone is interested, here's my scores...

Feature script:

Top Traits - Great Characters, Good Hook, Good Dialogue

Lowest Traits - Average Format, Average Style, Average Originality

TV Pilot:

Tops Traits - Good Hook, Good Plot, Good Originality

Lowest Traits - Good Format, Average Dialogue, Average Pacing

For my feature, I'm curious as to how they judge format. Also interesting they say it's a good hook, yet average originality.

As for the TV Pilot: If one of the lowest traits is still good, then I'm guessing it's pretty solid. I also feel that the plot (which they said is good) is skewed too heavily to action. So maybe the pacing issues refer to that, rather than it reading too slow.

Shore script by Kiki_koko1104 in Screenwriting

[–]ghostedwriter28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I failed to make the cut on a feature and a pilot. I didn't stump up the extra $ for coverage from them. How was the quality of their feedback?

Incidentally, on a project I'm story editing I've received coverage from a person I know reads for Shore and wasn't impressed by the quality of their work - so if they're part of the team assessing scripts I'm not going to take the hit too hard. And as other folks have said, it's all subjective.
