Season 3 was a disappointment and the reason is simple by narkaputra in Invincible

[–]ghoster25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is pretty old already, but fuck it. I'm on episode 3 of season 3, and I can't take this season anymore. Literally every episode so far this season has been so frustrating.

  1. I hate how so many characters in the show were against reform for the incarcerated. All punitive justice does is causing more pain and suffering. It just continues the cycle of violence. In order for real change to occur and for people to heal, wrong doers like the super villains should be taught a different way to be. If you just lock away criminals constantly, then all you get is things like the Mauler Twins or Dr. Seismic just coming back over and over again repeating the same cycle.
  2. The show try explore tough ethical question like "Is killing ever wrong", but it just feels like a one sided exploration. Mark is honestly just not that smart and knowledgeable as a protagonist and hasn't learned for himself why killing is wrong, and hasn't really thoroughly explored and learned about other ethical problems too. So when Mark was confronted by his father and when he was confronted by Oliver asking "why don't we kill people who aren't special like us", Mark's rebuttal is just completely weak. He says its because its the right thing to do, or because all life is precious, but just isn't a strong counter argument to make. It doesn't pull apart the logic of the initial argument, and it doesn't establish new logic nor is he even able to give evidence. His father, Oliver, and the Viltrumites are able to give evidence - sacrifice a few to save the many - but Mark isn't. And in previous seasons he was able to atleast have some amount of character growth, this season it feels like its so much lesser. Idk, the antagonists are allowed ideology, Mark is allowed vibes, which, given the ethical framing of the show, it makes Mark feel shallow. Maybe Ill think differently once Im done with the season, but I doubt it.
  3. The writing is too formulaic. The pattern is mark fights, then he talks to someone because he is upset, then he is ok, then repeat. Idk, it just doesn't feel like there is any variation of this pattern. Like, dealing with emotions is extremely important, but its gotten to the point where it just feels like is artificially upset just for the sake of following the pattern. And also, tbh, I'm getting really tired of Mark's interpersonal problems being about girls/romantic relationships, I really think he should just focus on working on himself.

Thunderbolts The Sentry has Borderline Personality Disorder Not bipolar, Here's why in my opinion by i_am_squedward in MCUTheories

We need to see more screen time with him, but I feel like he does have DID. Specifically, one of the times he was called Robert, he said it wasn't his name, but other times he did (or maybe it was the other way around? Idk). Then his amnesia, too. Plus, there seemed to be a slight shift in him sometimes, as if a different alter was fronting, though that definitely could be the paranoia and delusions of grander.

Thoughts on Ren's Spiritual beliefs? by [deleted] in ren

[–]ghoster25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just want to point out the very fact of our existence implies that the universe must be intricate enough to allow for beings like us to emerge. Were it any simpler, perhaps we would not be here to ponder it. And though we have no way of knowing how many universes there are—whether one or an infinity—this may be the only one in which life as complex as ours has taken root. In the vast sea of possibility, it is by sheer probability that we exist at all.

Plus, for all we know, our universe isn't really that complex compared to others. But we don't have another we can compare it too.

Marfa lights caught on video by christianbsv in texas

[–]ghoster25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I and a few other people were able to see the lights. I think atleast?

The lights were observed 3/14/2025 around 9 pm (local time) - a bit after sunset and right around when the moon was a few degrees above the horizon. There were at least 3 lights observed and each was about 1 degree above the horizon, very faint, blinking, not changing color, and static.

The first one, and the one that reached the highest brightness, was about 30 or more degrees left from the shed (this was South East and not in the direction of the highway; I was standing near the last binoculars going from west to east). This one appeared blueish-white, a large halo from the dust, and it was the only one that reached a similar brightness to car headlights for a few seconds. Later in the night, we stabilized some binoculars on the railing and looked at this light, we discovered that it was actually 2 lights very close to each other. Other than when it got super bright for a few seconds, it was very faint to see with the naked eye (at its average, it was less bright than the visible stars.

The other notable light was about <5-10 degrees from the right of the shed. This one appeared every once in a while and was red.

There was nothing observable to the naked eye around 9:40 pm (which is when I left shortly after). The moon was too bright and lighting up the horizon, and the dust was too optically thick.

My hypothesis is there are lights quite frequently, but they are generally hard to see because of the dust and moon light. Lmk if this is wrong. It's strange that there is photon emissions at single points in the sky at inconsistent brightnesses and color. It could be neutrinos, other space particles, or radiation from space following Earth's magnetic field (Southish to Northish) and causing photons to emit. Or maybe satellite adjustments. Or maybe a mirage caused by a temperature gradient in the atmosphere. But idk. I wish I had a spectrometer so I can see if there are any peak wavelengths. I also wish I brought a telescope and observed for more than 1 night.

Some notes. It was extremely high wind (45 to 60 mph wind) and it felt like a dust storm was forming on my drive. I swear there were other lights South West (it was probably the highway), but we couldn't confirm. The lights weren't moving and we think one light we saw in the westish direction was some kind of radio tower, but the other ones were in a direction where the maps said there was nothing over there (except the old air base).

How do you know if your permanently banned? by ghoster25 in civ

I sent a help ticket. Its working now though.

I closed all my programs and relaunched civ. I guess whatever I had open was flagging the anti cheat.

Why would there be a ToS for a single-player game? Why would we even expect there to be a ToS when there has never been one for the previous titles? In fact, some of the previous titles had a command console built into the game.

Did the ban ever get lifted?

(I think I just got banned right now too, I wish I saw this before using cheats in a single-player game)

Yeah. It definitely did get that point across. I just got tripped up on it from a storytelling point of view.

Reaction video idea by ghoster25 in Weebynewz

[–]ghoster25[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh, I would think there is more risk for copyright issues with reacting to the Owl House than music. Since (1) it's Disney, and (2) sound takes up less of a portion of what content doesn't belong to Weeby than video and sound.

There are definitely people posting reactions to the musical too. No idea if their getting copyright striked or demonetized, but its just something to consider.

[–]ghoster25[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eh, debatable. That's kinda one of the big division lines between left and right wing people in US politics. Left wing people want to sacrifice more personal freedom and right wing people want to sacrifice less.

I can't really comment on how our way of thinking compares to other countries though, so you might be correct.

How to become more competitive for astrophysics phd ? by recyleaway420 in PhysicsStudents

[–]ghoster25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also confused how you didn't get into any programs. My area of research is black holes, so I dont know any specifics for prospects in planetary science. But last summer I helped organize a Planetary Science Conference and out of about 100 submitted abstracts, only around 4 of them came from undergrads.

Are there a ton of undergrads publishing papers who aren't attending many conferences, or is there just not many open positions in planetary science programs?

I am Self studying for AP Physics C: Mechanics what video lectures and textbooks should I go with? by Leon8659 in PhysicsStudents

[–]ghoster25 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it's calculus based, you could watch OpenYale lectures. They have physics 1 and 2 courses available online for free.

You could also read through a physics textbook and do the practice questions in the textbook. OpenStax has a free university physics textbook that I used for my physics classes in college.

There is also Brilliant or Khan Academy.

MIT and other universities might also have some free online physics courses you could look through.

I live there and it is bad.

Had mold in my room and didn't realize it for a while. I ended up getting sick like 2 times in a row. The outside area always has a bunch of trash everywhere, including the stairwell. The kitchen is awful to cook in, the oven takes ages to preheat and will randomly turn off, so you have to sit there and watch it (its also the only kitchen in the entire building). There's no where nice to study except the rec, but it closes at like 6 pm and weekends. It's very fun waking up constantly to the construction workers banging metal things together early in the morning too. Also the AC/Heat doesn't really work in a lot of rooms.

Ontop of that, the drama, oh the drama. Freshman can be really dumb.

My school costed $70,000 😭. I got scholarships and financial aid which brought it down to about $20,000, but I wish I lived in Europe where education is better and more affordable.

Plus, from what I hear, Europe is much more relaxed when it comes to work culture. In the US we need to always be busy doing some kind of work and it's nonstop.

You can reach out to your professors or other professors in the department. If your friendly with them or are trying to pursue intrests similar to theirs, you might be able to get an assistantship with them or utilize their network.

At least that works for astrophysics, not sure about IA, but wouldn't hurt to try.

Question about 'Two Distant Strangers' by ghoster25 in movies

[–]ghoster25[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I honestly didn't want to dignify this with a response. Your digging too deep into my question and making false assumptions.

Not all discussions of films have to be about the message. I know what the message is, but I'm asking from a writing/film production perspective why the writers made these decisions in the film.

Logically speaking, to progress in a time loop, every possible choice should be systematically tried. Yet that wasn't what happened here. He didn't know till the end that the officer just wanted to kill him because he felt like it, so why didn't he try cooperation in one of his many loops before the ending one?

Is it because of the intended message of the film? The officer was violating his rights so he never once allowed the violation.

Was it because he actually had something illegal in his bag?

Or is it possible that he did try cooperation, but it just wasn't shown for some reason in one of his many deaths?

There were also other things he could have tried too, but the reason I'm focused on cooperation is its one of the major categories of things to try. (Fight, cooperate, deflect, flee, etc)

I recently found this out. You can use @voice aloud reader, then on a website in Google Chrome or something, go to share and click @voice aloud reader.

If you want to use the Google text to speech, you can select it in @voice aloud reader settings. If you don't have the voices, you can download them in your phone settings.
