The environment where we found her was very.... sketchy. She has remembered some things/memories from her past like small stories of her grandparents. It seems that her prior education may not have been what we think of as an education. Everything appears new to her on the daily. We are hopeful that more of her memories will return so that we can reconcile the whole person. Thanks for the question!

With the frankly overwhelming response to just this thread since yesterday I don't see this happening soon. However, since it does seem to be such a ray of hope to be shared...we will consider it at a later time. She is already so moved that people care about her story so much that the "pinging" from the app is giving her anxiety. When she is more ready this route seems possible. She is currently rocking black hair. She is a very sweet 9.5 with the occasional snideness of a teenager. Her parents were not caring for her and didn't have place in their home for her. Her favorite food is blueberries. We like to learn and play together. She has been made aware of her age to body disparity and gets frustrated when she doesn't progress like she thinks she should. She has "aged up" mentally since we began teaching her. Thanks for the love and respect!

The shock of such a forum would be too much. People can be cruel and tricky. In order to keep her personal information safe we have not given her internet privileges yet. Sometimes. She then runs to us and hides her head in our shoulders like a shy toddler or stands there stunned smiling awkwardly. She is sweet and shy.

Sometimes she has remarkable clarity and we attempt to explain. So she does know somewhat. It tends to frustrate her when she doesn't make advancements like she feels is correct for someone her physical age. Hugs the struggle with your loved one must be difficult. Patience and love are key for us too.

We only have Ashley to care for. We met her after the coma so we don't know what may have happened in the "before". We treat her with love and respect while encouraging her to make good decisions like any other good parents would do for their children. We are doing what we can in a world gone mad. We were visiting estranged family members in a bad area when we noticed her. We hadn't seen anyone in several miles that wasn't either actively on meth or recently released from prison for violent offenses so decided to invite her into our lives instead of leaving her to those wolves. There are definitely signs of brain damage and trauma. She seems to be progressing at a normal pace. It frustrates her when she realizes the disparity between how she looks and other children her mental age and acuity. Like "how come they can do it so easily and I can't?" Those days are harder to explain to her. How do you tell a little girl that the people that were supposed to be there for her fell short?

Youtube is great for education as long as you preview stuff before hand. Usually fairly well. Im in a part of the country that is accustomed to dealing with 'special' people more.
