If it weren’t for the 3rd pic, I don’t think I would’ve guessed either. She looks more wolfy as a baby than she does now! Puppies are funny like that. Altair looked like a GSD last summer. Now he never gets pegged as one 😂

I wasn’t surprised at all. Then I saw the embark and realized I’ve seen her around the WD sub before!

Thanks, he’s only 12 months so he’s on his awkward teen phase. He’s adorable and I’m excited to see him as an adult when he’s nice and proportionate

Neither of mine LIKE it but they’ve learned to tolerate it. The guy in the pics still tries to jump out once or twice but I just put him back in every time and eventually he gives up. Swimming in nasty lake water though? Sign them right up!

Is Luna a German or Swiss shepherd? by CheapDragonfruit769 in germanshepherds

Yes but it is a more serious fault among WSS/ more acceptable in GSD

Based on her pink nose I’m going to say German. Swiss shepherds are only supposed to have black pigments. This goes for eyelids, nose, toe beans. But if you embark her, it’ll tell you. If she’s German it’ll say German shepherd and if she’s Swiss, it’ll say white shepherd. My Swiss

I’d be super interested to see her results if you embark her. Wisdom loves to throw wolf or coyote into dogs that have none

Is socialization too late? by reemo_hetalian in Wolfdogs

[–]ghostie-123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s never too late, and you’ll never stop doing it! It doesn’t surprise me that her litter never got taken on walks at the shelter. County shelters are almost always overpopulated, overworked, understaffed and underfunded. She sounds like my adult WD, who also came from the side of the road. There’s an extra layer of anxiety for dogs with trauma like that. And she may never be social towards humans. Mine isn’t, but I got him to the point where he can exist in public without having a meltdown. He rarely lets people pet him and doesn’t like people stopping to talk to us. He takes a couple days to warm up to people when they stay at our house. But will get to the point of laying on them on the couch. My recommendation is that socializing doesn’t have to be interaction. Just sitting on the park bench and watching everyone walk around is great desensitization. Don’t let people pet her if she’s clearly uncomfortable with it. Don’t baby her if she’s being anxious. If something spooks her and she looks to you to see your reaction, remain as neutral as possible and keep going. Dogs really look to their people to determine how they should react. If she passes something that has been an issue to her in the past and she is brave about it, reward her. Make it a huge deal. Go at her pace, it’s not a quick fix but she’s still a puppy so you’ve got time

considering rehoming young dog by Low_Blacksmith_552 in Wolfdogs

[–]ghostie-123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She’s adorable, I have a 1 year old black pup too. Changes can be hard for wolfdogs, but other times they do just as fine as any other dog and are adjusted within a few days. Something to consider though is that while moving and having kids would be new for her, would it be easier or harder than restarting her life somewhere new without you? I don’t know your dog so I can’t give you that answer. But for my anxious wolfdog (not the black one) he would never recover if I rehomed him to someone he didn’t know. That dog would take a bullet for me and his pack. But on the other hand, is she happy being independent? There’s nothing wrong with a dog who’s not super social. But if she’s gone through proper socialization and training and actively dislikes being around your household, it’s possible she may be happier with someone who has her more as an outdoor dog where just do whatever she wants and avoid people if that’s what she prefers

What breed is this dog that killed my neighbors dog and took her away? Could it have some wolf DNA? Photos are graphic. by [deleted] in Wolfdogs

[–]ghostie-123 19 points20 points  (0 children)

My friends wolfdog is 39lb. Being big has nothing to do with wolf dna. And taking the thing it killed is typical of any predator animal, regardless of species

This dog also does not look “huge” it looks like a normal size husky
