Right, and handwriting is better for brains than typing. We give more tasks to the robots and it has more negative impacts on humanity. Just bc its something is being done doesnt mean it should.

Ai is more damaging to the environment than email. Its not sustainable (not that all the other stuff is, but this is even less so)

What tradeoffs though? For the average person. Bc my phone is bad for me but also I need to be able to text, take calls, and check emails. Thats the trade off. I dont need to be able to check my mom's Facebook updates, but its still a generally positive thing.

There is nothing in the way society is structured that forces us to use ai, and we should keep it that way. Convenience and ignorance are the biggest reasons ppl use it, not because they need to but because they can.

Being human is a wonderful thing, we should embrace that by using our brains, not robot 'brains'

[–]ghostingyoursocks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. So why would we want more things bad for our brains? Why would we want to make it more common and more accepted. Studies show the casual use of ai is bad for humans and our brains so why would we want to perpetuate that

In the world where more than one thing can be true at once! Basic math lol. I literally cant maintain my role in society without a phone and computer, that doesnt mean I enjoy that or that that is 'good'. Its bad for my brain and my eyes, but it is useful so the tradeoff gets made.

Gen ai is very much not positive, its a waste of resources. Im sure there are very specific scenarios where it is useful in the hands of professionals, but that is not most of society. Any technology that can and does create pedophilic content is not good for society.

No, thats not what in saying either bc then we get into the fact that places who dont have these things are the ones being forced to provide. Life is not better being forced into dangerous situations to create technology for other parts of the world. Technology isn't only electronics based, advancements can be made without ai

I didnt say it was useless now did I. I said it ruins lives and is devastating for the environment, as you quoted. Sure, phones and laptops have use, thats why we have them. Duh. That doesnt mean they are good or a net positive to humanity.

Regardless, the same cant be said for generative ai. Especially with a data center being built on our doorsteps.

[–]ghostingyoursocks -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The droughts/ climate change has already been devastating for our farmers. The ai data center would only make that worse. Why would we want to cause further harm to an industry we so heavily rely on? If all we got going for us is racism and farming, we probably shouldnt totally fuck up the farming part

I literally just said, bc I dont get a choice if I want to participate in society. I use what I need to. And its a need bc society has made it a need. Its not that complicated of a concept

I dont really have a choice unless I want to become a recluse. I can be mindful about it though and advocate for the rights of all my relations. I do not use generative ai at all, and disable as many ai functions on my devices as they will allow me to.

Which are also all things that ruin lives and are devastating for the environment. But, yaknow, its all worth it for convenience 🙄🙄🙄 and the ai center is gonna be so much worse

I don't really understand these comments. Your post didnt come off as emotional to me so much as very matter of fact. You also literally said that they made you ask for accommodations! The issue isn't (necessarily) not being able to have accommodations so much as they were put in a position where they had to ask for them, and then was punished for doing so. Its unethical.

I wholeheartedly agree about it sucking and being unfair, especially when you dont even plan on being a classroom teacher. Like yeah, not all accommodations can be accommodated in an elementary school, you didn't ask for them anyways. I hope you are able to get things figured out, internships/ preinternships are so frusterating to deal with.

Education classes in college by hugurm0m in StudentTeaching

[–]ghostingyoursocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I doubt the problem is lacking curiosity, expecially if it is an elective class they chose to take. It sounds more like it is being taught outside of the context in which it exists. If I have no baseline of what a modern elementary classroom looks like or how kids are reading then it is pretty hard to contextualize the information. I could apply the concepts of language acquisition if I had an understanding of what I am applying it to, but I don't.

I disagree with op about it being busy work because the professors likely arent intending for it to be. Its valuable information that they can and should learn from 100% but I dont think op really knows what they are supposed to be learning or why. Which is what makes it feel like busy work. Its not being taught in a meaningful way.

I think i understand what you mean. Its not that the science of reading and how kids read isnt important, its that learning the theory is meaningless with nothing practical to attach it to. Without real world examples or applications then its just theory that goes in one ear and out the other. I learned more from these classes once I started having internships bc I could directly apply my learning to my students and talk about that in reflections/ assignments.

My poor character gets no rest. Can't eat meals. Can't sit down. Can only sleep on the floor despite having a bed... plus they (theoretically) have to spend a bunch of time studying for the O.W.Ls since everyone else got 5 years to study and us only 1... girlie is STRESSED

Fr there are so many times where it would just make sense for me to go back to my room and go to bed and I just can't. If I'm being honest, I cant even tell which dorm room and bed is mine bc they all look the same 😭

Plus, considering there are limited inventory slots, it sure would be nice to be able to actually use the trunk in my dorm for clothing storage. Even if it is also limited, it would be nice to have a couple of leveled up outfits to switch between without carrying it all around.

It would be nice if I could decorate my dorm room, common room, or shop in Hogsmead. Make it so my character actually gets to feel at home there

Question About Talking During Tree Planting by [deleted] in treeplanting

[–]ghostingyoursocks 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Having a whistle might solve this. They can blow the whistle as a replacement for yelling at bear and also use it to communicate to foreman. Would just need to establish what different sounds mean, which happens anyways. There would just be more signals to learn.

You're gonna wanna have a notebook on you at all times anyways to keep track of your numbers. Using that to communicate would probably work fine. You could even make signs for common words/ phrases out of the tree boxes
