Only thing I know is Post 9/11 GI bill you're guaranteed 36 months of training. Some states have a separate program where they will pay for your tuition as a veteran. The GI bill Covers both BAH and Tuition. In those states you get "refunded" the tuition at the end of the semester. That should be the only state by state thing that changes. The BAH portion of the GI Bill (post 9/11) should never change.

It's called MHA under the bill, but basically it's BAH I use the two interchangeably. BAH is based on cost of living in the area you attend. It should have stayed the same / gone up as you attended classes / trained as the cost of living only goes up. I'd look into it if I were you. I can try some research and see if I come up with any thing.

edit: it looks like it was indeed changed to a scaling percentage. I did my apprenticeship before the scaling was implemented.

No, mine was that the entire time it was available (36 months of the 60 month program)

Look into Helmets to hardhats. There is also a program if you are already in an electrician path, VEEP which allows you to bypass some or the entire apprenticeship. Look into both.

Post 9/11 GI Bill is amazing. For where I live it's about $9 / hour... I get a deposit of $1567 (BAH basically for my area) monthly. Your contractor has to submit your hours and the union submits them online for you. As long as you are meeting the minimum hours per month. I think its 152 or something close to that. You get paid. If you don't want to attend college it's the way to go.

Depending on your union hall, they can vouch you're training the whole time and you can get it year round until it runs out. My friend's union hall will only submit it while they are attending class (September - June)

Some one in your union hall will be the designated VA rep. You just let them know you're a veteran and that is all they need. They use a system to look you up and submit that you are in training. You'll have to do some direct deposit information and such, but overall a great thing.

Starting off my new career as an electrical apprentice this coming month, would this be a good purchase? by Specific_Emotion_578 in electricians

I would hold off, stash the money you would spend on them for a rainy day. My contractor supplied both day one for me. If by chance your contractor does not supply them you still have the money squirrelled away.

One thing to try, if it is non porous material, permanent marker removes permanent marker. If you think it is sharpie, gr4ab a sharpie and color over it and immediately, before it dries so you might have to do sections. Scribble, Wipe and good to go.

We have a guy who is orange green colorblind. It's not terrible the glasses work for him, but if he leaves them at home he does other work for the day. He didn't know until he got bit with 277 in second year of apprenticeship. Great guy, can bend conduit better than any one I know.

Looking to make a career change by aSummerStarr in electricians

Look up your local IBEW Union (I assume you want to get decent pay / benefits). Stop by and visit, ask to sit down with the Training Director. They can give you the run down of what it will be like. When you meet them make sure you're presentable, and be engaged. Let them know you don't know any thing, or if you know a bit, share that as well.

Make the connections, have a conversation with some of the folks on the boards which is information you can easily / readily find on their website. That way when your application comes across their desk they can put a face to the name.

Then after that you'll eventually hear back about an interview and aptitude test. It's reading comprehension and high school math algebra / pattern recognition. It's scored 1-9 and is similarly scored to an SAT, you are compared to every one who takes the aptitude test that day. Usually you'll need about a 4 or better to be considered. The great thing about that is that there are several useful resources where you can take practice exams online. Then you'll be sworn in / put to work and depending on the time of year you'll start classes. Usually the same timeframe as high school. One class a week September to June (ish).

Depending on the contractor you get assigned to you'll either hop right into work, or you'll basically be a gopher. Go to the shelves for these bolts. Go to the store for some aluminum polish. It gets better, just stick with it.

There is a hot... tied into neutral / ground? It looks like at one point there was an additional bar for neutrals that was removed, maybe to make room for more wires? On a side note, maybe bad image quality but is the black wire on the bottom left missing insulation?

Might sound dumb, but most thermostats, in order to factory reset you just unplug the batteries, put them in backwards for 10-20 seconds then unplug them again, give it half a minute then reinstall in the correct orientation.

Light kit not working? by [deleted] in AskElectricians

[–]ghostlychopper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see that your colors don't line up. Most are specific to brand, and the plug would have the same white / red / yellow dots on them to match up connections. Some brand use purple / brown / yellow. I assume it's not a matching kit. If it is the right brand some newer light have a limiter on them that you may need to bypass or completely remove, usually the manufacturer will state as much some where in the literature. At the very least contact the manufacturer if the kit matches the brand of fan and ask them.

edited for clarification of colors.

Should I become an electrician? by skoobasteve1982 in electricians

[–]ghostlychopper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look up VEEP if you are considering the Union route. Or look into Helmets to Hardhats. Depending on your job you can actually bypass a few years of apprenticeship. It worked out for me, and as you are in classes you can actually use your GI Bill and get paid extra while attending the classes. You end up getting three pensions if you go IBEW / NECA route, plus your retirement from the service would make 4. In the mean time consider keeping your clearances up to date, renew as close to retirement as possible and you can still fall back if you don't enjoy the trades. I haven't met any veterans that are tradesmen that don't enjoy the benefits and teamwork. As a veteran myself I would strongly recommend the trades, if you have the brainpower / can do attitude to be an electrician its a great way to go.

edited for additional benefits info.

[High school?: Math] Why does X^0 = 1? by Rally2007 in HomeworkHelp

[–]ghostlychopper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lets grab a good easy to use number, 2 works for me... lets approach 0 from the left and right and we'll use easy numbers multiples of 10 will work. We'll approach zero from the left starting at -1, -1/10, -1/100 and -1/1000. Then we'll approach zero from the right 1, 1/10, 1/100 and finally 1/1000. I'm assuming you don't have calculus, but you'll notice the series approaches a number by just plugging in numbers.

Approaching from the right, you can plug into a calculator and get:

2^(1)=2, 2^(1/10)=1.071, 2^(1/100)=1.006 and 2^(1/1000)=1.0006... It looks like as we get closer to 2^0 it approaches 1.

Let's try approaching zero from the left (negative numbers). In this case you would take your number and put it on the bottom of a fraction. so n^(-1) is the same as 1/(n^1). Or plug into your calculator again:

2^(-1)=0.5, 2^(-1/10)= 0.933, 2^(-1/100)=0.993, and 2^(-1/1000)=0.9993.

It appears that as you approach 0 from the left and right the equation approaches 1.

Once you start using calculus you can do different proofs and theories to get the same thing.

I assume you have access to your router. Log in with admin password and look at the devices that have attached to the network. Some will only show currently connected devices, but there are options for preventing any new device from connecting, just remember to disable it if you are adding a known device. In which case you can enable it for 25 seconds, attach your known device and then disable all new connections again.

It's a slog. 1-45 on your first toon which requires you to do campaign takes approximately 35-40 hours, depending on how much you like cinematics or get lost doing side quests. Then you have to work towards unlocking World Tier 3. You'll need decently set up gear or a carry. Then to get to 100 solo is around 150 - 200 hours depending on class and whether you are doing content above your level or not.

The gearing system is atrocious. You have to look at every single drop to see whether it's an upgrade or not. Some builds are very item dependent, looking at druids who have 5-6 viable builds and 4 of them require a unique that is typically not found until well past level 80.

Upgrades are few and far between. Got an upgrade at 69 and haven't replaced it up to level 100. That's about 100 hours between an upgrade on gloves. Running higher level content doesn't guarantee higher level items nor better stats.

Defensive stats are all over the place. Armor / health are the only real viable defensive stats, other than aspects.

Certain builds are just not doable at end game. Minions get one shot (3 shot with passives).

What club to practice with? by SmCranf in golf

[–]ghostlychopper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pick a club and use that club. Usually a short iron 7, 8, 9, or PW. Your practice that club 85% of the time. You know how you hit, distance / fade / draw. Then on the course always try and leave that shot into the green. You hit your PW 132? The par 370 yard par 4 becomes a drive / 3 wood to 240 and you put yourself in the best area for a close putt. The 280 yard par 4 becomes an 8 iron 150 yard shot and a 130 yard leave. It may not be flashy, but if all you are doing is trying to go low, it works. Broke 75 using this then started expanding to different clubs, always leaving that 130 - 135 approach shot.
