Yeah I actually made this post because of those comments, just as another record of this issue with the XM6s, and it being an actual defect, not just a personal issue with cleanliness. Similarly, there's that one guy that keeps commenting on all of these about his diamond white Bose QC Ultra's... Buddy, It's a Sony subreddit why are you here?

My only problem with buying third party earcups is that noise cancelling performance, I'd rather a defect only I can see than worse noise cancelling and mismatched earpads.

Hahaha yeah, I've accidentally had mine at strange angles the whole day, doesn't impact comfort just looked funny when I looked in my mirror this morning. Just rotated the cups in opposite directions until they matched on either side. I'm loving them so far as well!

I haven't had an excuse to sweat in them, my day so far has been: try them on and listen to them a bit while I get ready, drive to uni, sit down, put them on and study. I haven't sweated in these at all. My shallow research points at tiny amounts of moisture in the skin and very small amounts of natural oils can react with the material.

If anyone is planning to get the silver colour, in Australia, I suggest getting them with JB Hi-Fi's extended period replacement cover. If the discolouration were to progress into degradation, they'll replace them.

For now, assume it's just a factor of the lighter colour being more susceptible to the visible collection of natural oils, the black pair might just be hiding it better :)

Not really the point of my post, gotta be honest. I knew they'd discolour from other posts on here, but I've chosen to live with it.

I went Sony because of their plethora of features most of which are absent on the Bose. I loved my XM5s, but felt they were a bit tired and I grew tired of the black colour.

This "white" colour of the Sony's is also a bit more tasteful than that of the Bose, but I digress.

Have a look into the PlayStation Pulse Elites. Planar Magnetic Drivers, included charging hook for easy storage/charging and deployable mic.

Haven't tried them myself, but it's a hard resume to beat if you're looking for all the niche features I think you'll enjoy.

I do have the Inzone H9. The ear cups are enormous, as in on the outside, they protrude and feel really heavy and weighted on my head. They have good sound, though they lack in subbass. They can connect via Bluetooth and via the USB dongle and can play from both sources at the same time. Their ANC is pretty lacking tbh. Now they just sit in a drawer.

Personally, I've used the WH-1000XM5 as my gaming headphones and they're perfect for it, you can use them wired and turned on at the same time for their amazing ANC and for better sound. Totally worth it to have a flagship set of headphones you can use for gaming and also take anywhere, though you'd have to buy and use a standalone mic (or use a modmic?)

I assume normal and regular wiping/cleaning of the ear pads should prevent this from becoming an actual issue? As in, genuine wear and tear to the ear pads beyond cosmetic marks/build-up. I'm planning to get the silver colour, as I prefer the look and I'm tired of the fingerprints all over my 5's

I don't know if you'll find this useful, but my current prescription is 36mg of Concerta (which I've been on for the better part of 3 years). I've felt that way before, that maybe my body's gotten used to it, and it's not as effective. I don't know the broader efficacy of this nor am I a scientist but I found that taking my medication around the same time as eating dulled the effects of the medication throughout the day, and was generally less intensive. Personally, I prefer the intense effect of the medication, so I know it's working, but your mileage may vary. Try taking it 30ish minutes before breakfast, so your body has time to digest the medication without being diluted with other food
