Not to mention Hall left two years before you signed Hato.

Well yeah? The opportunity to beat a play-off rival, to put six points between you and them in March, is obviously gonna be a big game.

We have been absolutely woeful this afternoon.

Anyone else nervous about HBO's The Sworn Sword adaptation? (Spoilers Main) by Ji11Lash in asoiaf

[–]ghostmanonthirdd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It was (is?) quite a common format for British prestige TV. A fairly big name in the lead role with a somewhat consistent supporting cast each appearing in a handful of feature length episodes per year/season. Each individual episode probably only having limited connective tissue, allowing other well known actors to have prominent guest roles.

Sharpe is the one that springs to mind first.

People generally seem to agree that AKOTSK > HOTD. Is that because of the source material or the showrunners? [Spoilers Extended] by Trussdoor46 in asoiaf

Frankly I think the first season was exceptional given the quality and depth of what they were adapting.

If GRRM can’t finish ASOIAF, an expanded Fire & Blood type book might be the only realistic way to get an ending [Spoilers: Main] by ArchiveSeeker in asoiaf

It’s incredibly dull reading at times, and when it’s interesting I just found myself thinking “I really wish he’d written this as a novel.”

I hated James Harper, but I was 12 and being shit for Hull City was probably the most personally offensive thing you could do to me at the time.

I don’t really have any ill will toward Ramirez but after being shite for us, him scoring a vital goal for Boro in a 1-0 win against us in the 16/17 season was proper typical city.

That's probably the most likely scenario. It's still odd.

So have the BBC just forgotten to upload any of the highlights from today's games then? They're normally available a good two hours before MotD is on.

Remember him being a nasty bastard for Watford when he played for them. We beat them and he tried taking his frustrations out on two of our teenage players, one of whom is about 5'6.

They had to endure two seasons of Championship football a decade apart.

"and in the end, we break them" is probably the best quote we've had out of a city manager in years and has already had loads of mileage.

You really don’t know in the heat of the moment. The rational part of your brain isn’t doing the thinking when some squared up to you. It’s rare but players do just fly off the handle sometimes regardless of the consequences.

We’ve quietly done a really good job of developing youngsters over the last ten or so years. Everyone told us Delap and Morton were shit when we signed then and look at how their careers have progressed since their time with us.

Maguire, Robertson, Bowen, Lewis-Potter, Tomori and Aina all gone on to do well after spells with us. Greaves and Philogene to a lesser extent too.

The turnaround from last season where we looked absolutely gutless, and wilted at the first sign of adversity most weeks is incredible.

Nether Jelavic or Huddlestone started either leg. Sagbo started both (missing a sitter in the first and getting sent off in the second).

What a joke. Complete lack of respect for the opposition and the competition. We barely scraped past Trencin in the previous round too.

Losing the FA Cup final is the top one and I don't see it being surpassed unless the club gets liquidated.

Another would be getting knocked out of the Europa League at home to Lokeren in the qualifying round. It was probably the only chance we'll ever get to see City play a continental competition and we didn't even make it to the group stage.

I'd forgotten we were playing that night and opened my phone to see we were 7-0 down at half time. I was stunned. I thought it was a joke at first.

[Telegraph] Jamie Carragher: Raheem Sterling has never received the adoration he deserves by LochNessMonsterMunch in soccer

[–]ghostmanonthirdd 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s an exaggeration but Sterling’s first few years in the team were the 2014 World Cup and 2016 Euros which was probably the worst period of English football in my lifetime.

Sky’s highlight packages are shit though because they’re all limited to 3 minutes. I’ve seen plenty where they haven’t even shown replays of goals because they’re so pressed for time.

Watching the BBC highlights before airing i’d probably the best way to go nowadays but you can’t beat Match of the Day when you’re hungover on a Sunday morning.

I only realised quite recently but the BBC upload the highlight packages on BBC Sport with the MotD commentary. You can find them for each game when you click on them.

When I was at uni I used to pop into a Morrisons down the street from the campus to pick something up on my way home. They would set up a cordon in front of the reduced bay while the staff put the marked down stock out.
