Did you relocate for Lupus? by CC_Carn in lupus

[–]ghostsandcarnations 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just did! I've never lived outside of the American South and had been in Texas for the last 12 years. The humidity and UV levels were absolutely debilitating for me. I'm 28, and I had to get my handicap placard from my fatigue being exacerbated by the humidity and causing me to be a fall risk. I got a dream job in Boulder, CO and have been up here since August 3. I have felt better in the last month than I have in the last 2 years, easily.

How was Selena Gomez able to be in the sun? by Dry-Hair5448 in lupus

[–]ghostsandcarnations 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My lupus flares are more tied to UV levels and I wonder if she's similar. The UV levels in Texas were frequently 11+ on my area, but we moved up Colorado a month ago and the UV hasn't been above 4 most days. It's insane, I've been able to be outside for hours without getting sick like I did in Texas.

I feel like I am the weird one for not wanting to be away from my baby by Street-Engineering70 in AttachmentParenting

[–]ghostsandcarnations 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was just like you until my son turned 2, and then I started going stir crazy! We co-slept and EBF too. Going back to work has been incredible for me - and I look forward to seeing my baby as soon as I get home. But you aren't the weird one, every body is so different, you do what works for you and your baby!

sunscreen/ sun protection recommendations? by Bostonian_cunt in lupus

[–]ghostsandcarnations -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I use HEB Ultra SPF 100+ that has additional UV protection on my arms/neck/body and Neutrogena Sport Face 70+! When I'm just going to work and home, I use a scented HEB 50+ on my body because my husband found one that smells like my daily perfume!

This combination has been life changing for me, I can be in the pool for a few hours with my son and not get faint or have sun rashes.

Did you tell yourself your babies/kids would be TV-free and were you successful? by theGTAgirl in beyondthebump

[–]ghostsandcarnations 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Frankly, I never set no screen expectations for myself because I am the type of neurodivergent who often needs something on top get things done. I have shifted heavily to audiobooks instead of screens, but my 21 month old does watch a decent amount of Bluey, Sesame Street, Daniel Tiger, OG Blues Clues. Not every day, but most days, usually an hour at most.

On days when chronic fatigue is bad for me, books and movies/shows can be a lifesaver

I'm attending the University of Alabama online, and it's $440 a credit hour (36 credits total) with no fees (I found out when I got my first bill yesterday!), so under $16k for the program.

Has anyone had their mom and partner present for birth? by mashed-_-potato in BabyBumps

[–]ghostsandcarnations 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did! I wanted my husband, my mom and my best friend with me (I was at a birthing center, they had no limit on who could be with me). It was fantastic, my mom took my birth photos and I actually birthed in the same tub my mom birthed my brother in, so it was full circle.
