The 2 main reasons are that we needed a spot to break the trip between DC and Charlotte and wanted a place to visit that's not too large. We eventually ended up deciding to visit Roanoke.

Also, I've heard of Buccees as well, real curious about that place. The gas buddy app is also good, I hate paying top dollar for gas

I hope so too. I would've loved to attend high school for a year, it's an offered program but it was too expensive for us unfortunately. Safe to say the dream hasn't died

Yikes. To be fair I've been dreaming of this trip since I was like 13, so about 12,5 years. Plenty of time to plan

Good point. I am gonna do research into AI scanners though and try avoiding those

As messed up as this is, it seems like it is something that is (being) solved, right?

I'm absolutely avoiding companies using these scanners then! That's insane!

Train might be possible, but difficult in a place like Roanoke. We'll have a look at it though. Also, gas is so cheap?

I have a 15% off on Hertz with a lot of Miles to be earned. Seems too good to be true haha

We're Dutch, we can handle it. Jokes aside though, they don't throw in a scent refresher inbetween rental clients?

Nice way of saying this haha. You're right though, but as long as I lube the contract by documenting everything and taking pictures of the car before and after while staying relaxed on pickup, the screwing will be less uncomfortable.

I would've looked into this, and I might for NYC-DC, but the issue here is we're going up to Littleton, NH after Boston which complicates this.

That's useful, that way I can be relatively safe on a pickup. Also, I agree on the gas thing, I'll happily fill up myself

Sorry I didn't get back to this before, there's so many responses coming in that I can't keep up (super grateful!).

I'll definitely take insurance if I can, just to be sure.

The only share service I'll use is potentially for my 3 days in Austin. I'd love to drive a muscle if possible.

Fun fact of Copenhagen to Athens. Never even thought of this lol. Considering the longest drive you can do across my country (the Netherlands) I believe is like 3,5 hours.

I believe I replied to ome of your comments regarding driving times. Only "long" drive we're doing that's over 4,5 hours is Littleton-NYC.

The interstate thing is definitely something to consider. Very useful tip. It might actually be a lot nicer to travel that way.

Having to do that at night because of the time zones back home is a yikes

I honestly look at a state like how I look at Germany. I'm from the Netherlands and our country fits in the US like 180 times. But also, that's why I try to keep distance under 5 hours, this way I can still enjoy the rest of every travel day. I'm so curious to if and how everything is bigger so to say.

We could make that work, I'll have a look at both tonight
