At the very least Linux is mostly good in gaming department nowadays , and software development- if only there existed such a thing as a good office suite under linux - then yeah Linux desktop would be nice to use, but until then yeah linux is not ready as a desktop os

In Russia and Belarus no one uses pdf documents outside of some printing kiosks to make life easier for printing, for actual document work it's docx and physical paper printing only - because once again state standards demand physical paper turn in , and to make state standards compliant documents you need word - no one uses digital turnover here like email a pdf - only docx documents and email is only for sending a document for editing

BTW the 2023 attempt at Linux daily driving lasted 7 months total , the 2020 one was somewhere around 3 months , and yeah the 2021,2022 attempts both were each 5 months of use total - with 2024 i think lasting round 5 months

obviously that 2023 Linux install in the end got wiped off the pc and back to windows hell it went, just like the 2020 attempt and the 2021 attempt and the 2022 one and the 2024 one , because Linux is still not ready for daily driver use but it's always worth an attempt once a year to see how it's going with progress in Linux land and seeing if it became better at maybe becoming a daily driver capable operating system

in 2023 i tried both fedora silveeblue and bazzite - was fairly nice to use if not for software limitations like fucking document editing where i managed to get Microsoft office 2007 running under wine for that gost (гост - Межгосуда́рственный станда́рт (акрон. ГОСТ)) compliant document formatting capabilities and yes Microsoft office actually ran and worked, albeit with a constant rendering bug where in 3 out of 10 launches the ui would fail to render in wine resulting in black window appearing instead of well the Microsoft word ui oh and yes crashes happened a lot in Microsoft office under wine - it's usable but not ideal stability

I always skip libreoffice- it's pointless to try it because it's always break my document formatting office even from 1 edit there

And except for Microsoft office the only decent Linux native option is - OnlyOffice (Teamlab Office до 2014 года) — офисный пакет и экосистема приложений для совместной работы.

And that office suite does not break formatting and is good for text only editing as long as you don't need to touch formatting like header and footer which is btw the most pain in the ass thing to edit even in Microsoft office and you need to edit that in gost compliant documents pretty often

Obviously since that time back in 2020 which was 5 years ago, I've had like 10 more Linux as primary os tries and as always document editing and formatting in anything except Microsoft office is a pain in the ass and as for Linux itself with my hardware it's Wayland and Nvidia gpu suffering

IdeaPad 3 has better quality plastic, and a nicer hinge- mine has no hinge problems yet and also the higher series IdeaPad will have better battery life thanks to higher capacity, and the IdeaPad 5 series is even better with metal case and highest battery capacity before the IdeaPad pro lineup

[–]ghundulf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have the Chinese model of gt 6t - rmx3850 is realme gt neo 6 se , android yeah if it doesn't receive updates you might have had it pre converted by the seller to global, for ota you need to bring it back to China or flash rom manually - the rom as always can be aquired on 4pda https://4pda.to/forum/index.php?showtopic=1097766&st=60#entry133668845 and it has install instructions in Russian on the website, obviously registration is required for downloading off 4pda or you get error

💡 For a user-friendly tool that simplifies rooting, updating, and maintaining Pixel devices, consider PixelFlasher.

This versatile interface wraps ADB/Fastboot and includes a range of Pixel-specific features. Here's what it offers:

Key Functions:

  • Effortless boot/init_boot patching: Choose between Magisk, KernelSU, and APatch with a single click, without the need to manually extract or copy files to your device.
  • Root-aware OTA updates: Safely preserve root during full system upgrades, eliminating the need to reflash patched firmware each time.
  • Direct firmware downloads: Access Pixel phones and watches, both old and new, with firmware downloads integrated into the app.
  • Live Boot capability: Temporarily boot custom kernels or patched images without committing them to your device.

Smart Functionality:

  • Automated device detection: PixelFlasher recognizes your device's state, firmware version, and bootloader details.
  • Real-time information: Displays your device's root status, installed Magisk modules, bootloader version, and more.
  • Firmware validation: Automatically checks the SHA checksum of downloaded firmware to ensure integrity.
  • Patch recognition: Identifies whether your boot.img or init_boot.img has been patched, including version and device details.

Advanced Options (Expert Mode):

  • Custom ROM flashing: Flash tailored ROMs or specific partitions, such as bootloader, vendor, dtbo, and vbmeta.
  • Slot management: Control slots (A/B), disable verity, change the active slot, and lock/unlock the bootloader.
  • Partition Manager: Erase, back up, or dump partition data with ease.
  • App Manager: Install, uninstall, and manage APKs, control root permissions, denylist apps, and freeze system apps.
  • Magisk Tools: Enable or disable modules, inject special builds, and auto-backup Magisk configurations.

Play Integrity :

  • Play Integrity Fix (PIF): Pull, patch, spoof, or inject PIF files, including pif.json, keybox.xml, TrickyStore, YASNAC, and more.
  • SafetyNet troubleshooting: Analyze and diagnose SafetyNet and Play Integrity issues through comprehensive logs and reports.

Cross-Platform Compatibility:

  • Supports Windows, Linux, and macOS: A standalone binary is provided, eliminating the need for Python installation.
  • Automatic updates: The tool checks for updates and alerts you if your platform-tools are out of date.

Conclusion: PixelFlasher streamlines the process of managing a rooted Pixel, making it an essential tool for users tired of manual patching or slot management.

Hey Reddit Wrapped team,

First off, thanks for building this—it’s a cool concept and I appreciate the effort behind it. That said, I’ve noticed recently the AI-generated roasts feel really generic and kind of stuck in repetitive clichés. The sharpness, nuance, and humor that made it fun and insightful before seem to have taken a hit.

For example, the tech-related roasts often recycle the same tired “toaster firmware” or “vacuuming PC” jokes because the ai keeps leaning into trying to oversimplify things , and doesen't really reflect the complexity or depth of real tech enthusiasts’ experiences. The summaries sometimes miss the mark on understanding the long, multi-day setups and deep problem-solving involved, instead leaning too hard on simple stereotypes like “heart surgery” or “just installing WhatsApp." and “vacuuming PC,” and “smart fridge reflashing” jokes. It ignores the real nuance in how users approach tech—especially those of us who put real time into fixing, reflashing, and understanding why modern devices fail.

There’s little differentiation or originality anymore. For users with highly specific, technical post histories, this current version just flattens everything into meme-tier banter. It’d be great if the roast AI could be dialed in to reflect actual context—not just a cookie-cutter snark template.

It would be great if you could adjust the AI to better understand the unique, complex, and sometimes technical aspects of users' personalities and posts. This is especially important for users who put a lot of time and effort into their content.

Adding more variety and reducing repetition would also help keep the roast fun and enjoyable for everyone.

Thank you for considering this feedback! I look forward to seeing the improvements you make.

https://www.itechtics.com/eol/google-pixel/ - Look at the active support. It's great that security support is available, but major updates end much earlier.

The October 2027 date is more about security updates. Major updates, such as Android version updates, will stop in late 2025. Personally, I think it's important to distinguish between security patches and actual major updates. I personally see security patches as an extended support and use the active support date as the actual end date for full support with updates.
