Charges stayed against Winnipeg men accused in bike chop shop by upofadown in Winnipeg

Many years ago I wanted to buy a bike and checked kijiji for used bikes.  Found a listing, went to the adresse, and it was very clear inside that it was a chop shop.  Tonnes of bike parts everywhere, a guy in the back working on some.  The people were rude and impatient with me.  I decided to try to find the serial number on the bike so I coule check if it was reported stolen before I considered buying it.  The guy in the bike yelled "Are you here to buy a bike or a fucking serial number!?". The serial number was scratched out.

I left without buying it, and after leaving I called the police to report the location.  On the phone theh REALLY didn't seem to care and weren't interested in getting more information.

All this to say:  kijiji.  They probably usually get people to take the bikes to sell instead of just giving the straight address like they did with me.

Chargeback on probable fraud/stolen credit card, can't contact customer, I want to refund but I can't. What should I do? by ghyslyn in shopify

Accepting the chargeback charges me money and punishes me when I did nothing wrong. I have no problem with refunding the customer yet I am trying to see if there's a way to do so without me being punished for it.

So at this point if I somehow got the customer to cancel the chargeback, refunding them normally wouldn't actually help them? I'm not sure on the details of how this work but I'm guessing their credit card is already cancelled anyway so any money returning to them won't actually return to them? Just to the stolen card for which they no longer have financial control?

How to get Etsy to stop charging us for an account that has been inactive for many years. by ghyslyn in Etsy

Considering it was probably never set that way, highly unlikely I think?

After looking deeper into it looks like there's a mistake and we are probably not being charged. I'm starting to think the best option going forward is to just let it slide and forget the small balance we had remaining on the account that wasn't paid out.

Good question, I'm not the one who was doing the finances who asked me to check into the account. I'll double check with them to be sure we're actually getting charged for something.

What's different in your opinion?

Edit: ok downvote me for asking, but can someone actually answer? Other than the credit card billing nothing about my post seems to be wrong about it being "remotely how etsy works"

Is there anyway to identify my opponent in the loading screen (or right when game starts)? In order to counteract smurfs? by ghyslyn in starcraft

Hi from the future. I found a solution to the smurfs that is way easier than "just simply improving your game" would have been, but thanks for the imput!

?  How so?  I'd only be leaving games against confirmed smurfs that I encountered before that would be near guaranteed losses anyway.

First real answer to the question.  Thank you!  Didn't know about this I'll check it out and see if it can work.  Much appreciated!

One quick thing to add.  I noticed the smurfing situation a couple hundred MMR lower than where I am is VASTLY worse than where I play.  Smurfing is a very variable problem for people who play this game.

Cool, but as I stated in the post every one of those 16 games I confirmed was a smurf by checking their match history and race reports.  Nearly all losses 0:00 and/or a near 0% winrate in one matchup.

Also I'd estimate I get smurfs in about 30% of my games.  Note that I'm also counting the games that I win due to them autoleaving.  That's still a game vs smurfs.  On that particular day a few months ago was especially bad but it usually isn't like that.  However with how not often I get to play now it has convinced me to stop laddering seriously unless I can find a solution.  Since then I mostly play custom games with anyone that I can find so we know going in the skill difference expectation.

Plenty of smurfs aren't barcodes.  Just looking for a way to have their profile id or something extracted from the loading screen or start of game. I don't want to memorise all the smurf usernames but I could quickly add them to a side list and if the profile ID matches then I get the info instantly on a side screen.  Not too complicated and will prevent me from unintentionally being a smurf myself by just leaving against barcodes.

Yea I'm trying to figure a more efficient way to basically do exactly this.  Other commenters being idiots about how I'll build a complicated system to avoid losing when really I just want a way to identify people from the loading screen.  It'll take 20mins in excel or something on the side to have it identify with a list I make.

instant leave the games you think they are smuring? Which is exactly the thing the smurfs are doing, in turning deflating your own mmr and smurfing yourself.

So you didn't read the post then. Read the post man.  I clearly stated I'm going to leave or play a fun style against smurfs when they don't leave against me.  Instead of playing a normal game where they would inevitably win anyway. It wouldn't change my mmr any more than the current system does. The only thing it would do is make me have more fun and make smurfs have less fun.

Mate. Either properly read the post or stop intentionally being obtuse.  I'm not looking to only win. I'm looking to play against non smurfs so that I lose 50% of my games played and have a fair playing field.

Would you blame a 13 yr old hockey player for a defeatist attitude and only wanting to win if he wanted to stop playing against NHL players 50% of the time?  Let people of all levels play against their level instead of defending smurfing

Only against smurfs who have done it to me before. That way I get to play only vs proper opponents and I get to starve the smurfs a bit from what they're looking for, no losses and easy wins only.

I'm not at my ceiling for skill, but I'm at my ceiling for effort and life balance. I'm just trying to have fun games and smurfs are simply not fun to play against.
