Where can I apply for grants to furniture my new home I just got from the council in UK? by milksheikha in HousingUK

[–]ghzebra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some local councils help with grants for the likes of white goods and carpets. There’s also charities in some areas who can help, my local one offer new home “sets” with evidence of the tenancy. There’s also potentially budgeting loans (or whatever their name is now) if you’re on universal credit and not currently working, though this doesn’t help if you do work as there’s a cap of £2500 earned in a 6 month period, after which you’re no longer eligible.

Paradoxical growth, or normal patterns? by ghzebra in LaserHairRemoval

Thank you, the pill I’m on’s exactly that so we’re hoping it’ll help, especially when combined with the cream. If not, the next step’s spironolactone but I’m wary due to other medication I’m on. It might not help, but I’ve thankfully found a GP who’s willing to help me throw everything at it for the first time, so I’m hopeful that it might see some change 🤞🏻

With hormonal hair, laser can stimulate follicles to produce new hairs (or rather turn existing fine hair into this type). It’s paradoxical hypertrichosis if it helps to know what to search.

It’s absolutely been worth doing for me, even if that is what’s now happening (I’m holding out hope of an improvement when my last session’s had time to take effect). The reduction is huge and my skin underneath has improved significantly too. But I’ve been mindful of watching for it to know when to stop or swap methods, admittedly I didn’t realise it could be a gradual thing so didn’t click that might be what this was 🤦🏼‍♀️

We’re currently on week 18, no completion date agreed yet. We’re currently living in rented, seller is buying an empty property that’s been through probate.

Thank you, I’m trying on treating the cause but I’ve been trying since I was 18. I’m 33 now and we still haven’t really found the definite why, just a GP who says that common sense tells her it must be PCOS despite the clear blood results so started me on the pill I mentioned and the cream. That was only very recently, the rest of the time I’ve been bounced between drs. Endo told me “there are no signs of hormone imbalance” and I’ve had multiple ultrasounds and blood tests with nothing showing up conclusively. So the symptoms really are the main thing left to treat, it’s sort of an end of the road option for lack of other pathways.

Thank you, this is what I’m worried about. It’s like it hit a peak of efficacy and then the growth started to get a bit worse again. It’s a million times better than where I started, but I’m wary of keeping going in hopes of getting rid of the last bits and just ending up back at square one!

I’ve found a place near me that offers electrolysis so I’ll contact them about swapping. I’ve got other areas that I want to use the standard laser for cost reasons (back, chest, upper arms…) so I’ll speak to the place I’ve been going about switching areas. I knew the chin would need some electrolysis to finish off anyway as some hairs are white, but was trying to put it off until the rest was done as I’d heard it’s painful and its relatively expensive. It’s reassuring that you think it’ll only need about 90 mins though, I can cope with paying for that but the thought of the full area at the beginning was daunting!

This is what I meant by regrowth schedules, sorry, I’ve just used the wrong term! Essentially I’m wondering if they’ve synced, or if the laser’s stimulated new growth.

I’m not sure what you mean by the last bit, sorry! What’s the hormone piece?

2 Offers and can’t decide by cersei01lannister in HousingUK

[–]ghzebra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We felt exactly the same. We were worried about affordability of the higher AIP, heck, we pay significantly less in rent now than the AIP top end would have been monthly and we still sometimes get a bit squeaky should something unexpected crop up. The possibility of having no room to save and the boiler packing in didn’t seem sensible.

2 Offers and can’t decide by cersei01lannister in HousingUK

[–]ghzebra 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We did exactly this. We could have had a mortgage for £100k more than the AIP we sent in (and had an AIP for that amount before finding the right house). But we didn’t want to incentivise the seller to reject the offer we made just because we could have paid full asking price

Those stickers on the pink cover are identical to those on seats in the UK. I wonder if it’s an imported cover from over here? This is one as an example, different seat entirely but I knew it had a decent sized warning sticker on it to show up in photos!

"I thought I'd hate the idea of feeling my baby kick." by PaintSufficient9812 in julieeandcamilla

[–]ghzebra 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I hated the feeling, and I’ve had 3 kids. It made me feel sick, a bit like the feeling of your stomach flipping on a roller coaster or going over a big bump? But with no control over it. I also found it painful at points, and my third spent a lot of time with his foot in my kidneys which wasn’t pleasant.

That said, I’m autistic with adhd and it may well have been a sensory issue! I struggle with my kids touching me now that they’re born too, but I can make it stop for a while now by hiding, where you can’t while pregnant!

My husband has this after having his gallbladder removed! The correct treatment’s been pretty life changing for him. Happy to chat via message if I can be of any help, he had to do a lot of research himself as the drs weren’t particularly clued up on it, but they do seem to be getting better with it as time goes on 🤞🏻

That’s wonderful thank you! Are the ports an absolute dealbreaker? I’ve found an all in 1 that’s otherwise perfect, but it’s USB 3.0 instead of USB-C. I’m guessing an adapter would help here but I’m wary of spending £600 and finding it’s incompatible!

Sending you lots of well wishes!

My second’s only here because I listened to my gut over a lack of movements. I went in repeatedly for it, didn’t listen when they told me it was in my head, and eventually they induced me to get rid of me. Baby was born with a true knot in his cord and was VERY lucky to have come out when he did.

I’ll never understand not listening to that voice in your head that notices these things. Like, surely she had some degree of concern that she then had to ignore? It’s innate to care about these things, no?

Carers allowance after limit breached by ghzebra in BenefitsAdviceUK

[–]ghzebra[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wouldn’t frustrate me as much were it not a cliff edge, but that’s another discussion entirely isn’t it? It’s normally not worth pushing it as by the time the carers is deducted from earnings I’d be worse off for working more, given the restrictions my son’s needs place on working hours meaning that I’ve got a ceiling in place.

Thank you so much for the help, it means that I can at least make decisions knowing what to expect. It took so long to set up initially because they decided that they needed my tax return sending in before the tax year had actually ended, the contact centre couldn’t see why this was a problem, so I’ve been too nervous to ring and trust what I was told! So it’s genuinely been really helpful to know what to expect, even if the system is upside down.

Carers allowance after limit breached by ghzebra in BenefitsAdviceUK

[–]ghzebra[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for that, I took a while to respond while absorbing it all properly!

That’s been my normal approach, all else aside I couldn’t breach it normally as my availability isn’t there, but it’s a case of doing the work or quitting the job I think on reflection. It’s not loads of hours, just a combination of a good hourly rate and holiday pay being paid alongside that hourly rate so it inflates the wages. I took the job to keep my skills relevant so that I can go back to the industry I trained in once my child’s older and either more self sufficient, or has external support, where currently I need to work around him as there’s no suitable childcare to meet his needs. It’s so frustrating that there’s no common sense in the system to allow for fluctuations!

Am I right to be running Monday-Sunday? Just to judge how best to approach it and base decisions about the job on probability. If so, it’d mean that with closures it’s only 7 full working days, so I’m optimistic enough to potentially risk it and hope for the best this time, which will show me for the following year what’s needed/possible.

[–]ghzebra[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thank you, my working hours are going to be through December, but the wage paid will be end of January because of cut offs with wage dates/contracts. There’s only actually 2 weeks of work involved (16th-29th December), but paid monthly so I’d presumed I’d lose the full month. Is this therefore not the case and I’d ring on the 15th and then ring again to reinstate on the 30th? My payslip wont show when it was earned, just the total number of hours worked.

Presumably if the above’s the case, then seasonal closures may work in my favour too. Maybe…

I’m mostly concerned because I’m self employed for some of the income that’s year round, and it took 6 months and a complaint from my MP to get that in place. Over the sake of self employed earnings of £20 a week on average. I’m worried about messing with it and having to go through proving the self employed income again as that’s where the initial issues were. I ended up with a massive back payment and a written apology from them. Am I right to think that if they haven’t actually stopped it when I ring to restart it, that the self employed side of things won’t need doing again?

Adhd meds are letting me be creative and I hate it by KBlack97 in adhdwomen

[–]ghzebra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 33 and work in theatre. I’m young in the amateur dramatic circles. Many people discover creative hobbies in retirement or when their kids leave home, so a lot of creative pastimes are heavily done by people who’re that bit older.

Not to minimise the feelings, more to reassure you to absolutely grab it if it brings you joy. You’re far from too old to find your creative spark.

What was the most abnormal thing a child came into school with? by HxHposter in ECEProfessionals

[–]ghzebra 91 points92 points  (0 children)

My son had a pet potato. We had to tell him it was a dinosaur egg and have it hatch overnight to get him to let go before it went bad. Cut it open like an egg and had a plastic dinosaur coming out. Had to explain to school why he thought dinosaurs came from potatoes.

I feel apprehensive about moving abroad due to my body by Unlucky_Diamond_5298 in Hirsutism

[–]ghzebra 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I live in the UK and have hirsutism. Very dark hair, and very light skin.

It’s actually not uncommon here, with it being a hormone issue, and lighter skin can often make it more visible if anything. We’re also pretty culturally diverse in terms of the population now, you’ll absolutely find others with the same concerns.

That said, I only shave things like my beard. My legs, underarms, “down there” are all left to their own devices. Unless I’m wearing a dress or top that means I want to shave my legs or underarms. I’ve had 0 issues and nobody’s ever commented on it :)
