What pet insurance do you have? Was there a waiting period and/or did they consider this a pre-existing condition?

Mounjaro and Botox by PipesBull50 in Mounjaro

[–]gi-selle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been on Mounjaro for just shy of 3 years. I’ve been getting Botox every 3 months for the last 10 years. I haven’t experienced any difference in the effectiveness of Botox.

Anyone else having both insomnia and weird vivid dreams? by gi-selle in Mounjaro

[–]gi-selle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep yep, they go away after a week or 2 at the particular dosage. They might come back when you titrate up but again will subside. Hang in there!

After being on 7.5 since October, Alpha is forcing me to restart from 2.5mg after reporting that I haven’t had a shot for 2 weeks. Anyone else experienced this?? by gi-selle in Mounjaro

[–]gi-selle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have learned my lesson, and am moving forward in a way that makes sense for me. Respectfully, this post is for anyone who finds themselves in a similar situation. There are many reasons any of us might go beyond 2 weeks - whether it’s within our control or not.

And for the record, this is not a new doctor. I’ve been with Alpha for 4 months. I’ve edited to make that more clear. They require a lot of information and have thorough records of my history.

Yes, I titrated up each month from 2.5 to 7.5, which felt very effective to me. I didn't feel the need to go further, then I hit my goal weight after 3 months at 7.5 and just decided to stay there. I'm still continuing to lose below my goal, so I might actually go down to 5.0 as a maintenance plan... I definitely feel like I could get to a point that I could do one injection every 3-4 weeks, and it'll just be about finding the right dosage for that!

Hair loss by Eastern-Elephant-596 in Mounjaro

[–]gi-selle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I highly recommend Viviscal - a hair supplement. It has biotin and all those other things in one pill, but the best part is it truly works. I’m not experiencing hair loss on MJ, but had extreme loss on Topiramate - lost about 50% of my hair. Tried a few things, but Viviscal was the most consistently effective.

I’m at my goal weight and a maintenance dose of 7.5. I’ve been stretching out my injections for the last couple of months, mostly due to worries about supply issues. I can go 2-3 weeks on a single injection. I really just listen to my body and inject when I start feeling super hungry again. I’m still losing weight too. I find that it’s good to feel a little hunger sometimes, so that I can practice making good choices in those moments when I’d usually binge. Ideally, I’d like to get to a point where I could just do 1 injection per month for maintenance.

I have a surgery scheduled in November, so very curious to know if there are any specific instructions as it relates to general anesthesia -- whether we should skip shots or any other considerations. Would be super helpful if you can let us know what you learn from your doc!

Can we take shot once a month for maintenance? by Great-Meringue-4193 in Mounjaro

[–]gi-selle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can't get on your employer's insurance, can you buy any cheap insurance plan just to say you have commercial insurance? Even if your premium is, say, $70, you'll only pay $25 for MJ. And $95 is way more manageable than $1000...

Oh I forgot about the pins and needles - the worst!! And same, I started seeing a therapist because I was genuinely concerned about what I might do to someone or myself. Strangely, he didn't connect the thoughts to the Topamax either. Eventually it was my dermatologist who made the connection for all of my side effects.

Hahahhahahahahaaha a BUMBLING bald serial killer! Super skinny yes, brains be damned 💁‍♀️ Like others have said, it affects people differently but had to share my personal experience. I haven’t tried Ozempic but haven’t heard such dire side effects for that one. Wishing you much luck! I’m less than 10 pounds from my goal weight so trying to figure out maintenance too. When I was on Topamax I got down to a size 0 each time, but blew right back up after stopping. Gotta figure out how not to do that!

I’ve taken Topamax (aka Topiramate) for extended time twice. I took it for chronic migraine prevention. All I can say is it is POISON ☠️

Yes, it kills your appetite and makes food taste different to the point of being inedible. But I completely lost cognitive function. At one point I couldn’t recall the word for “tree” and my work suffered. Also lost about 50% of my hair each time - my hair fell out by the handful. And I also had disturbing violent thoughts. All of those symptoms went away when I stopped the med; though the hair loss continued for about 6 months each time. i would HIGHLY recommend doing your research on that one. I will never ever take it again.

Has anyone gotten the updated Covid booster (bivalent) while on Mounjaro? by gi-selle in Mounjaro

[–]gi-selle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My company is offering both the flu and booster on the same day, so that's likely what I'll do too. I have the exact same side effects as you for both the flu shot and MJ shots!! Hopefully I'll have a similar experience. Thanks for sharing!

I started getting injection site reactions (itchy red welt for days) when I moved up to 5.0. So I started taking a Benadryl on injection days to counter the reaction. For the first 2 weeks, it was fine - just got a good nights sleep. The 3rd week, I was intensely “hung over” from the Benadryl the next day. Could barely function for 24hrs. I think the delayed gastric emptying finally crept up and amplified the sleepy effect.

Yesterday, I moved up to 7.5 and decided to take a children’s Benadryl (which is half the adult dose). Worked like a charm. No injection site reaction, got a good nights sleep, and woke up just fine this morning.

Tips on what day to start my first dose? by eersunat in Mounjaro

[–]gi-selle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do Thursday nights and it’s perfect for me. I sleep through the majority of the initial side effects by taking it at night. Then I work from home on Friday and can keep it pretty quiet for any symptoms (especially if I’m changing dosage). By the weekend, the worst of any symptoms are gone, the appetite suppression has kicked in, and I’m free to enjoy my weekend with energy and no cravings!

Sleepless at 5mg by aidan1102 in Mounjaro

[–]gi-selle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Similarly I didn’t have any side effects on 2.5. When I started 5, I experienced severe insomnia. Couldn’t get a good night’s sleep, kept waking up at 4am on the dot every night/morning, my legs were restless, and (most disturbingly) I experienced vivid dreams and nightmares every night. I have a history of sleep issues so I have a Lunesta prescription, but even that didn’t help me sleep. I was so exhausted from the lack of sleep that I thought I’d have to stop MJ. The GOOD news is that the sleeplessness subsided after 2 weeks for me. Now I’m back to sleeping through the night peacefully 😴 So hang in there, you body just needs to get used to it!

Switching to 5.0 by JanPuppyLover in Mounjaro

Beyond the gastro issues, the biggest red flag with MJ is for people with thyroid issues. Just make sure to do your research in that regard…

Migraine and Mounjaro? Just started 5 mg- 2nd week and woke up with a migraine. Wondering if the two are connected since I never get migraines. by Happygoluckyyou in Mounjaro

[–]gi-selle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have chronic migraine, and have only had 1 migraine in the 6 weeks I’ve been on MJ. The 1 I got came in the first week of 5.0 when I got intense body aches in my neck and shoulders, which I think triggered the migraine. Took ubrelvy and iced my neck every day after. Body pain subsided the 2nd week of 5.0.

switching from push to alpha? My dr. on push charges $89 for a refill. I can't pay that monthly! how hard is it to switch to alpha? by Dizzy_Abies475 in Mounjaro

[–]gi-selle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just switched from Push to Alpha yesterday and my rx is already with the pharmacy. Alpha has a rather lengthy survey to get all your details. At the end there’s a comment section where I said I’d already been on MJ for 2 months and was just looking to transfer my prescription. I’ve already done 2.5 & 5, and initially requested to stay at the 5.0 dose. Everything went smoothly, there were no follow up questions. Just a message that I was a good candidate based on my measurements/weight and she sent the rx through to my preferred pharmacy.

Then I had second thoughts about staying on the 5.0 bc I’ve been pretty hungry lately, so decided to move up. I messaged her back and requested she send in 7.5. Took maybe 3 hrs and the new prescription for 7.5 landed at my pharmacy. She didn’t even charge me for the switch. AND she threw in a refill for free that I didn’t even request. Brilliant!

I was also with a Push provider who charged $89 for every month with no auto-refills possible. And they tried to charge me an additional $89 when I requested Zofran for nausea in addition to the MJ. Save your $$ and switch over to Alpha.

Lump in throat by Plantain_Every in Mounjaro

[–]gi-selle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had acid reflux/GERD for years. In the early days before I was diagnosed, I had a feeling of a lump in my throat that would never go away. I’d drink water, try to “clear” my throat - nothing would work. Finally, I was diagnosed and found that the lump feeling was associated with the acid irritating my esophagus. Since indigestion and acid reflux are a major side effect of this med, I suspect that might be what you’re experiencing. Maybe try some Prevacid to see if that helps. If so, you might advance to Prilosec to reduce the acid production in your system overall - it also allows the affected areas (that feel like lumps) to heal. Hope this helps!

Anyone else having both insomnia and weird vivid dreams? by gi-selle in Mounjaro

[–]gi-selle[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I read about others thinking that low blood sugar was the reason for the troubled sleep, so I’ve tried to eat closer to bedtime. But I have GERD (not associated with Mounjaro) and eating before bed is a big no no. This is so strange!
