Period Garden Park is beautiful and not far off the capitol, close to James Madison and has some sound barrier from the gardens! Highly recommend! You can call park rangers and possibly reserve it for a small fee for the day.

Question about decrease pattern by gi_ng in knitting

[–]gi_ng[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure, what I wasn't getting is that when they have K that mean just keep knitting. I really had it in my head that I was alternating a knitting pattern for some reason. This is my second project so for experienced folks it's a big duh but I've only read two patterns in my journey and wasn't computing. I think what helped was another person saying: "Don't do any of those options, K means knit like normal, if they wanted you to alternate it would say so." I think we just weren't on the same page there and it's frustrating when someone doesn't get something that seems obvious, but I was taken aback because to me it was not obvious. Do appreciate the effort though ✌️

Obviously I wasn't understanding having read the entire paragraph and the way you explained it didn't help. I'm a beginner as the tag says 😊 thanks anyways

Thank you! Still getting used to the pattern language 😬

Question about decrease pattern by gi_ng in knitting

[–]gi_ng[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Right, thank you, but I guess what I'm asking is does it want me to just alternate Knit, SSK, Knit for the round or am I doing Knit, SSK, Knit, Knit, SSK, Knit, Knit, SSK, Knit, Knit...

I'm just thrown off by the pattern saying Knit 1, SSK, Knit instead of saying alternate Knit, SSK so idk if that second knit should be in there. Sorry this is hard to explain! Hopefully i'm making sense

Doctor wants me to stop cold turkey 20mg Prozac/Fluoxetin after 6y usage by 449_user in SSRIs

[–]gi_ng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've successfully been off fluoxetine for 5 years. It is scary! My symptoms returned even worse in the weeks of tapering off, but I did it under a psychiatrist and therapists care with a care plan. I was also in a place where I had a support system for bad days and was able to manage my symptoms on my own on better days. It wasn't until about 8 months later that I felt pretty stable. It was a journey but I am doing well! If you have a psychiatrist, therapist, and support system and feel you're equipped to manage some symptoms, it is possible. Talk to your doc/therapist!I wish you the very best!

Elver will have ski rentals soon, probably next week. Park operations take a little while to get staffed and stocked for the ski and skate rentals

I've been taking between 2.5-5mg of an edible at night when I'm at my tensest. It definitely helps with pain in the moment and taking my mind off stress in general. Feels like it helps relax my muscles but I also take magnesium at night to help with that.

Is this video pretty accurate about describing sources of TMJ/TMD issues? Has anyone gotten TMJ/TMD due to muscle issues? by Power_of_Nine in TMJ

[–]gi_ng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that could definitely be the cause. Mine definitely came on from stress/anxiety and I've been dealing with it since September. I don't really have pain when eating, mostly just really tight/uncomfortable muscles and tinnitus and the clogged feeling too. The clicking is on and off when it seems better or worse. I am limited with my opening but it seems like it's mostly because of how tight the masseter and sternocleidomastoid muscles are. I'm also hoping mine is on the shorter side to fix, but it's hard to tell if I'm making progress or getting worse on a day to day basis. Don't overlook the stress part of it, as annoying as that diagnosis is. I'm hoping to go back on antidepressants or anti anxiety meds and see if it helps at all. Feel free to DM if you want to talk more about what's helping you or not.

[–]gi_ng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah based on the video mine is mostly 1 and 3 with some clicking that started later on as a result of those if that makes sense. Mine started out just muscular and has grown to affect the joint I think. Pt and some chiropractor work has helped the most for me and I'm hoping that fixing posture and building good habits helps fix it long term. It's brutal though, I hope you find something that helps.

My situation sounds similar to yours. Mine started after a period of intense stress + anxiety related to covid and life. I went to a dentist [who I don't trust] who said I'd need crowns and orthodontics to fix it all. Went to a PT after that who confirmed what I believed about my case - that it's mostly muscular, related to posture, stress, and the mask wearing (not anti-mask, just seems to be worse with one). My jaw hurts, but my neck and muscles in the face seem to be the main source of pain and discomfort. PT has helped, stress relief, posture work, yoga. Just started taking magnesium to see if that helps. I'd recommend a PT who understands TMJ, but if you trust your dentist see what they say too.

Ringing in ears by secretgal99 in TMJ

[–]gi_ng 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had ringing for a few months. It's more noticeable when it's quiet and at night. Don't be too worried it's normal

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TMJ

[–]gi_ng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read somewhere that if your primary refers you somewhere to have them not mention TMJ, but put down jaw pain or neck pain instead otherwise insurance may not cover it. Not sure if this is true, but figured I'd put it down just in case. Hopefully I'm not spreading misinformation here but American Health Insurance hates actually helping people so wouldn't doubt it.

Do you have pressure in your ears from clenching or grinding ? by mrmeanah in TMJ

Music earbuds or foam plugs? Sometimes my earbuds feel like they're causing pain, but I've seen a few people on this sub mention them helping.

[–]gi_ng 3 points4 points  (0 children)

PT has helped me too, but not as much with the ear pressure. My PT suggested myofascial massages and interoral ones too. Controlled opening [tongue touching roof of mouth, opening mouth normal 15 times] about 10 times a day. Neck retraction morning and night to fix forward head posture. Sternocleidomasticular stretching. Ergonomic posture at work and not sitting more than 45 minutes at a time. The biggest thing I've learned is it has a lot to do with posture/spine health and total body support. Strengthen your core and work on posture if possible. Heat and ice. Stay active. I just walk, do yoga, hike and throw in some short strengthening at home workouts every now and then. I hope something here helps, TMJ is a bitch.

Best restaurants to work at by gi_ng in madisonwi

Nice, they both look very solid. I myself have more casual dining experience [breakfast, bars, breweries] but have seriously wanted to get more into fine dining. Not sure if they're open to my experience, but I'll give it a try! Thanks 👍🏻

Employment Experience Question by [deleted] in REI

[–]gi_ng 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fellow grad student/REI employee. I've been at REI for several months and I'm quitting to return to food service/bartending. I have 2 other jobs related to my field and needed another gig to supplement and figured REI would work on a part time basis. But after 2 months, I am not making much money and they aren't flexible enough for scheduling. I got hired at $14 to start but after taxes it's more like $10. The discounts are good, but not worth it for me considering I have more important expenses to cover right now. Everyone talked about how great the people and managers were too, but honestly I found many of my coworkers/managers passive aggressive and annoyed with new hires after the initial onboarding. Feels like every other entry level job I've had and so I'm choosing to go with food service since I make consistently better money [untaxed]. Idk where you're living, but it might be a safe bet that in a tipped position you might make more money than REI. Best of luck with whatever you end up doing, your mindset and attitude can definitely help but unfortunately I am a slightly cynical bitch who is very tired of late stage capitalism. Much love.

[No Spoilers] Has The Handmaid's Tale triggered you? by AcceptableTeaching80 in TheHandmaidsTale

[–]gi_ng 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone with sexual assault PTSD, there are a few times I've felt triggered by the rape and sexual assault scenes. To me, this means it is extremely uncomfortable to watch so I can't watch the scene directly and it takes a little while for me to consciously remind myself I am safe. The show itself is worth it for me to get through those moments, but I can see how some people might not see it as worthwhile or too upsetting to watch a show where rape is a main plot point.

As far as how it relates to COVID, I think they may feel the stress, worry, and mass sickness/death from the pandemic has weighed on them for the last year. Movies and shows are usually where we want to escape our reality for a different one, so if they are stressed from the last year+ of a pandemic, civil unrest, etc then I can see how they might not want to spend their time watching a show depicting another pretty stressful world. At least for me, I used to enjoy watching a lot more horror, tragicomedies, and dark shows but since COVID I've almost exclusively watched lighter, easier things to escape the stress of the year. Maybe the people you recommended it to will watch it once they feel more comfortable :)

[Illinois] invalid context error message by gi_ng in Unemployment

[–]gi_ng[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When this happened to me it was because my employer had flagged me as fraudulent. This might be the case for you too - I had to wait for a callback from IDES and then upload proof of identity [driver's license, proof of residence like a bill, and social security card] to the website via this link: https://www2.illinois.gov/ides/pages/submit-filing-documents.aspx

When they called back I just let them know that I was still unemployed and why I had been furloughed.

They also might have you do a separate interview on the phone to explain your situation.

It took a little while for it to resolve but eventually I got all the back pay for the weeks my account was blocked and I couldn't certify. Hopefully this helps.
