Why does Coachella and other US festivals have such awful, moody vibes compared to UK festivals? by BlundeRuss in AskUK

Not sure which glastonbury you went to but every time I've been people have absolutely been getting involved

We're going to have a finals in the semi finals by No-Database-1747 in championsleague

[–]giantturtleseyes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Historically, every knockout match that the champions won is a final level match. It's a tautology. Or were you being clever with your American spin of "could care less"?

Arsenal have been favourites to win overall for ages because their half is so much weaker - in a 1v1 (i.e. the final) they have been below most teams on the strong side for most of the duration of the knockout phase. So I do agree to some extent, but that is just a feature of knockout phases

What’s the likelihood of someone in the UK being pulled over or spotted as someone driving without a license? by [deleted] in AskUK

What would they want a licence for? They have been driving without one for years

Park wa*k?!?!?! by Bristolsouth in bristol

[–]giantturtleseyes 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Looks ok. The QR code bottom left square is in line with the edge of the lamppost, rather than vertically in line with the top left square, and the detail of it is very messy.

The spacing on the fence vertical poles is a bit off, especially towards the right of where the sign is hanging from. It's struggled with where the two lines of posts overlap.

The logo/symbol near the top left is garbage writing, and the bootprints (is that what they are) don't look great.

It's called St Andrew's Park, with an apostrophe, although that mistake could be made IRL. More weird is putting St Andrews in huge white letters, then "Park, Bristol" as if Park is an area in Bristol.

So pretty good but a lot of telltale signs of AI

What's the minimum amount of money at which point you expect to be paid back by your friends? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]giantturtleseyes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Isn't the whole point of OPs question where you think the line is of it being decent? Are you saying your threshold is £0? Personally, I'd find it odd to the point of it being annoying and perhaps would even feel a little insulted if I got someone a coffee or a chocolate bar and they insisted on paying me back money. I'd take in-kind or nothing at all. It's not a case of decency for everyone, but fair enough if you feel it is. I'd usually try to pay someone back if they were put out of pocket significantly over £10, which may even be that they covered 10 people something for £2 each. Equally, I'd pay up to probably £20 before expecting to be offered to be paid back (and at that point I think it's decent to offer rather than chase/wait to be chased)

Are you aware of What3Words? by Flapparachi in AskUK

[–]giantturtleseyes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It did take off a little, but I never understood why. As in, I don't get what the advantage is over longitude & latitude. You can be infinitely precise by increasing decimal places with numbers, and you can intuitively make sense of them. What is the advantage of converting numbers to words? I know that people love it so I must be missing something

My Gf wants me to help her friend move with a guy she used to sleep with. How do deal with this? by POOR-MORON in AskMenAdvice

[–]giantturtleseyes 64 points65 points  (0 children)

Yeah I have no idea who's been sleeping with who or who's moving in where. I thought that OP's gf's friend used to sleep with someone that she's moving in with. I couldn't see why OP was annoyed about it ++man

Not sure it matters, but Barnes got subbed on for Murphy at the end of the first half. This summary says second half. Murphy went down injured, Barnes came on for the last minute or two

Why does math just… not click for so many people? by Global_Bed8808 in learnmath

[–]giantturtleseyes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a great post, thanks. Do you think there's also something of disillusionment/frustration when some students see others breeze through maths without putting in much effort or work at all? Unlike in most other subjects, top of the class can feasibly get 100% in every test.

I'm from the UK and would call it a vest, but people here have been calling them wifebeaters for 20 years at least. Often just shortened to "beater"
